@@BlueAmerican26 well yes, you are correct, but still $200 is not a small amount of cash, considering what we would actually get (it's a regular unicorn slapped with tailed DEs and gold coated with a different v fins). I have not reached a point where I would go that far, sadly.
I like the Phenex, don't get me wrong. Whilst this PB phenex is undoubtedly beautiful, some of us just actually want the regular base model of it, even if it comes with the infamous 'curry gold' plastic as I can repaint it myself. The HG is okay but it's not quite my taste tbh.
Then again, it's an exclusivity for some builders who can afford this kit because of the P Bandai status. For now I'll just keep my fingers crossed for the retail version of the RG phenex

As someone who built this and applied the decals, they actually look quite good on it. They used a glossy finish on the stickers and they mask really well on the body.
For anyone that gets this and is worried about the nubs, Tamiya make a marker called "X-12 Gold Leaf Paint Marker" that leaves a really reflective, chrome-gold finish that you can dot on and it looks great. Not perfect, but will definitely hide all the marks and dots of plastic.
Issa a shiny boi! It looks good though. RG line is my personal favorite. Still hoping for an Epyon or God Gundam some day

It's so damn shiny. I find the RG to be the best line for the unicorn style gundams. Solid build, and the joints can hold up the weapons.
Paint the nub marks with chrome and clear yellow paint, or adhere with gold foil sticker. Just learnin from Meijin Kawaguchi. xD
Metallic gold gundam marker also helps cover up some of the bibs, though it is noticeably less shiny.

The pg unicorn is the kit that got me "back" into gunpla after more than 18(?) years of not building anything, so the pg phenex is still on that "to buy" list.
shame they didn't use the Hyaku Shiki 2.0 style gold, way better than the fingerprint dust magnet gold
same. I thought Id really like it with the shiniest blinding gold coat bandai has, but its just too uncomfortable to look at, and drowns the design of the unicorn
For once I just want Bandai to give us the regular, yellow curry molded version for a cheaper price so I could buy and paint it.
I like the uv light test. I use one for work, and once I started shining it on my gunpla, i was surprised how some kits would glow

I wish we can get a non plated version of this for those who primarily only paint.
The perfectability is coming soon or so I've heard, that should have the parts to build a white on blue phenex and extra bits to boot. Since that news came too late for me I got a knockoff pair of AA-DE and put it on a unicorn. They turned out good, dealing with paint scraping off was the only hassle.
I want to get Phenex. Glad the nubs are minimal compared to the MG. Although I wonder if there is some metallic gold paint to paint over the nub marks for the MG.
This kit would definitely be on my list of 1/144 gold plated kits to build, but it would be at the top of the list when it comes to the price.
no cap I bought my first gunpla this exact model and then i used my brain to watch guide for beginners . some how i managed to finished it * some how * . i am so dumb i should have researched first rather then buying first .

RG is my favourite line but they release too few new ones each year, I really want an RG ZZ Gundam as well as an RG Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex

I use gloves to remove the parts from the tree, and use a gold marker to cover the black nubs. Then I gloss top-coat the gold plated Phenex kits 1 time, let it dry for a day, and it takes care of the finger print problem.
I think imma get a perfectability and paint it chrome with a candied gold over it and then get a phenex V fin. The price is far 2 high off of scalpers. Anyone got any tips for good gold when painting ?

I would have preferred Bandai used the gold coating of the Hyaku-Shiki 2.0 on this kit. The shiny gold coating, while beautiful, tends to break up the silhouette of the kit due to all that shine

That's really shiny... Anyway, are you planning on having the black backround on your reviews like before? Atleast when you're shooting the whole kit on the rotating base. I kinda like that, no offense to your backlogs.

unlike the HG version which is two separate kits of the Unicorn Mode and Destroy Mode this basically a two-in-one thing plus has better engineering especially on how the tail stabilizer is built and works.
Just got the RG Banshee from USAGS. Gonna be the closest I get to this kit between this and the Perfectability, unless I can scoop one of them for under a hundred bucks

I have a fascination with the Unicorn kits, but the P-Bandai Markup for the Phenix narrative and Perfectability across the board is ridiculous, especially for their RG's considering their priced worse than the MG's.

XC connects to the Beam Sabers, so yes.

Wired shield tails more stable than the fragile nub-pegs used in the HG version
i built the MG version of phenex it doesn't have the tails coming of the shields,and honestly after building my MG phenex i will never buy another unicorn its back heavy and the chest and waste always tries to separate,so i fell for you building a RG version.
I bought 2 so I don’t have to choose between modes and for the rg articulation

Can you get a chrome finish this good with paint or is electroplating the only way to replicate this effect?
You can but it's labor intensive. Black primer then chrome then clear yellow then gloss topcoat, decals then another layer of gloss topcoat. And there are so many parts.

Oof rip. Altho, the RG mold has a lot more small moving parts compared to the HG, hope the gold chrome doesn't rub off on the RG...
I built the HG version and it is SOLID and a little heavy lol.

Nope. It's unit 1 with blue vfin and psychoframe with every armed armor slapped on it.

The joint peg in the thigh part is fragile broke mine 4 times
For people who are going to paint it it will be hell of time consuming and expensive. The gunpla itself is expensive the best chrome paint will be alclad chrome or just paint straight up gold alclad brass gold. Removing the paint also a hassle me I just used coke and soak it in it I did it overnight if there’s bit remaining just soak it again in coke. I don’t have phenex. But my MG hyakushiki and S.Freedom full burst same process of de- plating and painting.😉

@@rkfabricante yes, unfortunately they are pricey for what you get. They are basically statues that light up. They are in destroy mode only, no poseability and don't come with weapons. Banshee didn't come with its rail gun or claw

I was disappointed with narrative as someone who loved unicorn series. I thought about starting gunpla building and saw this video, thought of wanting to buy it and geeze, hard to get without spending $300 on amazon. also cannot avoid nub marks to save my life on cheapgrades
I spent under 130$ on it in my country, having heard it's 300$ on amazon don't make me feel bad about my purchase anymore

@@anxiousx finger prints, general stability of the kit, but most importantly the kit is not undergated (or very little of it) so the white plastic under the gold coating shows through on every nub mark. For the price there is no excuse. You shouldn't have to paint a specially coated kit to cover what bandai could have fixed during production. Better off spending even more oney on a Gundam Base Perfectability and painting that.

No surprise there. The MG Unicorn is fairly dated now and is arguably the weakest version unless you count the SD offerings. It was never designed with the intention of having special finishes or (crazy variants for that matter) despite being milked as such.

This kit is basically the limited Perfectibility kit in gold with a different head. So yes, it is 3 different shades of gold, and extremely nice. :P
Each unicorn units have different vfins, not head.
Perfectibility is unit 01 with all Armed armor equipment on it.

The Perfectibility kit is three different shades of white, the wires in the armed armor DEs, and it's why they just left in the standard Unicorn horn/v-fin. So the point being made is that it's maintained the three shades in the armor and the unique fix for the tails that make them so great.

I personally would have wanted the original lineart color, that sort of orange-yellow look. I'm not a big fan of the gold plating. Probably would have kept the price reasonable as well lol.

I really wish Bandai would release this kit without the chrome as a standard release, I would even settle for it still being a P-Bandai.
I dislike chrome finishes and even more than that, I hate paying extra for things I don't like on things I do like. It's like paying extra for a hooker covered in shit, it's just not my thing (although that is a terrible example because I also dislike whores).
