- Ali Ewoldt and Jordan Donica sing 'All I Ask of You' from the Broadway production of The Phantom of the Opera. Broadway, 2016, uploaded by request. Ali Ewoldt and Jordan Donica are the first Asian-American Christine and African-American Raoul, respectively, to be in the Broadway production of Phantom.
I am melting...this duet is beyond the beyond and they are perfection together....I am a raving fan of Jordan Donica,..but this woman is also a revelation!!! WOWWW....
So Jordan actually went to my High School and he's like a legend there. He also really wants to be the phantom 😂😂
Allie Pena At the rate he’s going now with his career, that is not a crazy concept.
He was very phantom-ish in this although he played Raoul, so it would definitely be cool if he could do it !
3:34 i’ve never seen such an adorable run onstage
Same!😭
Jordan is performing Raoul as if he were the Phantom. Commanding presence, powerful movements, and trained classical voice.
Now that's a thought: Jordan Donica as the Phantom.
Ali Ewoldt is fantastic.
Yea too strong, forceful
Usually they act as understudy so if phantom is out jordan will play phantom
YES
Jordan is the best!
You should have seen him as Lancelot. WOW!
Jordan would be a good phantom, his voice is exquisite
Sara Adame he's also an amazing actor so i definitely support him becoming the phantom on bway (plus it's also his dream role!)
Sara Adame same here
He has such a deep voice, when si was listening I couldn't help but imagine him as the phantom
I*
so true! I want to see him as phantom!!!
I love Raoul’s commanding voice - “No more talk of darkness!” Sounds like an assertive therapist.
3:34 Hands down the most precious thing ever to happen on the Majestic stage, it just made my heart melt! Everything about Ali is so sweet and adorable , and Jordan is a real-life knight in shining armour. They are some of the best I've seen in their roles. And I LOVE that they both put such a good effort into doing an English accent! It often feels like a lot of the Broadway PotO cast can't really be bothered, but I think it just makes such a difference (but that's probably just me).
Sophie Omg 😭 I love Ali so much she really brings the contrast of Christine’s innocence yet boldness out very well. She even mentioned it in her character study.
Ryan literally same
Why a british accent tho, aren't they supposed to be french ?
@@danslesbrasdemorphee4181 the production opened in Britan first in 1986 and then Broadway 2 years later. Most iconic musicals from the 80s got their start in London.
That climax at 7:04 has got to be THE best climax I’ve ever heard. As much as I love Sierra Boggess, Ali Ewoldt has got to be a close second. Her phrasing is so precise and clean
I saw her as Christine and she was magnificent. Everyone in the theatre loved her!
I’m sad I didn’t get to see Jordan as Raoul, but I did see him as Jefferson!
Let’s all be on the same page... Phantom is never leaving.
That "soar" part was 😭😍😍😍🙌❤️
Jordan is only 22!!!can't believe his deep emotion!wanna see his phantom in recent future
I love Jordan as Raoul. He is incredible. I wish he had stayed in Phantom longer because he was born for this role.
i’d love to see him as the phantom. both of them are absolutely stunning.
He’ll be a Phantom one day, I can see it. He’s really good, powerful voice there.
Ali is simply amazing and Jordan...wow...I agree with the majority...he would make an excellent Phantom. His Raoul is amazing
Jordan Donica's portrayal of Raoul is downright my favorite I've seen thus far. I'm not a fan of Raoul, in the book he was a wailing mess, others have portrayed him as pompous which never helped. I only really loved Patrick Wilson's, who was protective and loving, but Jordan's is far superior for his boyish portrayal which makes everything between him and Ali just adorable.
Jordan is so tall Ali's almost the same height when he kneels 😂😂😂
I've seen POTO 8 times (including the original production in London) and I've got to say Jordan is hands down the best actor to portray Raoul I've seen
Agreed. I usually don't really like raoul, but Jordan is so great!
CurvesRsexy08 he's truly talented
Have you seen Rodney Ingram??? Hes amazingggggggggggg
Rebekah Brown his voice IS AMAZING! Kind of remind me of Steve!
When Jordan was singing all I heard was an awesome Phantom. Ali is such a captivating Christine. I was pulled into this scene. Great singing and acting on both parts.
It’s so weird seeing Jordan not rapping. I saw him in Hamilton and he’s amazing.
lolo Jordan: “Let me be your light, cause I’m *TaKiNg ThIS hoRsE By ThE REignS* “
OMG YASSSSSS
Wait, who did he play
Tâm Lê he played Lafayette and Jefferson in Hamilton.
@Juliette Veronica IM DYING
Wow. He's so tol and she's so smol.
So in love with Jordan
her and sierra are my favourite christines. Sierra's voice is gorgeous and sweet and her acting is so perfect- a true natural onstage- while Ali's is so so so powerful and her acting is exaggerated perfectly- most people who exaggerate their actions look fake as hell and look desperate while Ali just looks amazing (also, POTO has features of epic theatre, and that's the singing literally all the time, and epic theatre is supposed to be exaggerated). In my mind they are both the best at what they do
Jordan is probably the only actor who played Raoul and got me like," YAS CHRISTINE GET HIM!" Not even Hadley Fraser, and I adore Hadley. I'm just more of an Erik fan.
3:37 Raoul is such a good dad. ❤️
Ali's small run 😂😂😂
Let Jordan Donica play the Phantom, /cowards/!
Her “soar” at 2:08 is absolutely exquisite!
It amazes me that Jordan is now part of Hamilton as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson, i haven't seen him there but i bet he's amazing
These two are so sweet together.
i love jordan donica, goodnight
12 dislikes? Erik, stop making new accounts!
No. ❤
Ugh so beautiful. Phantom is the best musical and Jordan is spectacular!
Ali Ewoldt is hands down the BEST Christine in any production of Phantom. Emmy Rossum who?!
Then you must not have heard Sierra Bogess as her...!!!! Sierra is my fav Christine... I guess we all have our own favorites
Emmy Rossum sets the bar so low, girl!🤣
dude, jordan is amazing :*
Omg I love him 😍 he should defiantly do Eric he has a gorgeous voice
Erik with a k
Jordan is possibly my favorite Raoul. Thank you so much for posting this!
Jordan is so romantic. He is a great Raoul. He was amazing as Lancelot. Wonder what he's doing now.
His voice oh my god
I LOVE PHANTOMMMMMMMMM ALIIIIIIIIIII EWOLDTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Rebekah Brown YASSSSS WHAT A QUEEN
OMG. Thank you for your post. The singing and acting of this couple is fantastic! I love it.
I hope a black actress could play Christine. 🥰
I think Denee Benton would be an amazing Christine
My friend actually got to play Christine in her Primary school in the school play for Phantom, they built the chandelier and everything. She’s Malay and we both live in Singapore, she’s a soprano and she’s incredible and just fun to be around
Oh my god I love them so much
I want to see him as the PHANTOM - hahah ^_^
I'm doing The Little Mermaid at the Belfry Theater in Noblesville, and Jordan has been in shows there! It's crazy to believe that he's stood on the same stage as me! (He's great though!)
I saw her last year and she was fantasatic! She's excellent as Christine, one of my favs!!
Could you please upload other videos of her if you have?? Thanks!!
Ali sing well, I listen she sing in Kaohsiung on the last Saturday(9/21)
i love him so much
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS IM CRYING
Look!! It's a great Raoul who isn't named Patrick Wilson or Hadley Fraser!!!
(And yes, Ali Ewoldt is going to go down as one of the best Christines to ever do the role, but we all know that already.)
Is it just me or is Jordan Donica really Patrick Wilson esque? Yes I personally think that this is the best Raoul for the stage version of Phantom of the Opera as he is the most similar Raoul to Patrick Wilson's version despite being the first colored Phantom. In fact, I like the fact that colored people play these parts, for if I were a play director I would be very giving of a chance and not discriminating at all.
Dang it, I love Ali's voice. So sweet and bubbly. I wish I had her voice. Instead I'm stuck with a more mature, slightly darker tone 😕
This must be from Broadway this is amazing I love the Phantom of the opera story I do
Do you have a recording of the new North American touring cast doing this bit? When Raoul looks around for Erik after Christine thinks she hears him she acts like she might jump off the roof. It was a completely new reading of the character and the scene. It took my breath away.
Yes, though it's technically not new - I believe Katie Knight Adams began it in the London production around 2003/2004? Rachel Barrell did it as well, though in a more understated way, less overtly "suicidal". I think a few other Christines after them did it too. The director of the tour, Lawrence Connor, might have been around as house director in London during that time and liked that bit of blocking, and possibly brought it over from there. I'm not a fan at all of the tour's rooftop scenes, so I'll see if I upload any. But I do know what you're talking about.
I've never much liked the staging of this scene, either. It is always a bit too plain considering it follows the excitement of Il Mutto.
Hmm, it sounds like you think I said that I didn't like how this scene is staged in the original? Because I actually do - I think the understated nature of it provides a nice, and more intimate, contrast to the Il Muto scene, which is more comedic and chaotic. I'm not a fan of the restaged tour's staging, though - the "suicidal leap" Christine makes ends up making Raoul look like he's saying everything just to keep Christine from taking her life, rather than from sincere love. And I find that the blocking in the restaged tour has the actors at opposite ends of the stage at times, shouting their love to each other.
nikolasstormy I thought that Christine’s suicide attempt made the scene very powerful, but like Glass Prism said, it sounded like Raoul was just saying all of that to keep her from killing herself lmao
i saw her too in NY. she's my first choice for Christine. (with Sierra of course)
do you happen to have some more of Ali Ewoldt? she's so amazing.
I have the full show, but I don't have any plans to post the rest. If you're interested in more, you can email me privately
Holy hecks! The guy’s voice sounds like Ramin as Raoul D:
Do you have an All I Ask Of You video bootleg from Lisa Vroman you could upload? No one seems to have it... :( Either way, you are a SAVIOR to people like me who can't see the show live and have to rely on these snippets!
OMG YES this would be wonderful :) :)
I like both Jordan and Ali, but I feel like "why have you brought me here" was lacking emotions that were needed. The rest was great and they're both amazing performers.
Does anyone have the whole POTO with Ali Ewoldt as Christine? I saw the show twice but never in NY
I do, but I don't plan to upload the full thing.
how do people record this stuff, i went recently and the usher's ar everywhere during the show
Thank you for uploading this!! Do you have any more of Jordan Donica? I’ve decided today that he’s my favourite Raoul but I can’t find clips of him anywhere :’(
I have two full videos of him. You can see more of him on the video of Rachel Eskenazi-Gold's 'Think of Me', and there's a video of Ali Ewoldt's 'Think of Me' on CZcams where you can see him as well. There's also a video of him in the 'Final Lair' with Ali Ewoldt uploaded by a different user. However, I have not uploaded anymore of him due to the fact that James Barbour is the Phantom in both videos, and I don't want to put up any videos with him in it. Sorry.
Glass Prism thanks you! I totally stand behind your reasoning too. It’s such a shame though, since Jordan really is a fantastic Raoul and deserves to star opposite a better Phantom. I’ll go scour the Internet for these clips :)
Reminds me quite a bit of Steve Barton's Raoul
One thing that makes or breaks a Raoul for me is "Why Have You Brought Us Here". Some Raouls are either bored, others are outright dismissive, some are outright mocking Christine *cough* Hadley Fraser *cough* but the best Raouls look concerned for Christine throughout, try to reassure her, attempt to calm her down by saying "Don't worry, I get you're scared a stage hand was murdered but the rumors about that ghost haunting the opera aren't real". And at the end, he puts two and two together and realizes that whoever murdered Buquet is also after Christine for some reason, and that's when he snaps into Knight in Shining Armor mode and you go "Oof, the Phantom better watch out". Jordan Donica is everything I described in the latter instance, and he does it PERFECTLY.
Do you have the full production?
Yes, I almost always have the full show when I post something.
Jefferson what are you doing here
Do you have movie of phantom of the opera of japanese cast more?
Sorry I'm japanese people.
So I can write so easy english.
I love old japanese cast such a Mr.Yuichiro yamaguchi and Eiji akitagawa!
こんどー。歌います same they're one of my favourite casts ever
i feel like she rushes it a bit and isn't quite feeling the romance the way he is, she is lovely though. ❤
im not a fan of ali's voice sound but exept of this she is amazing
He's awesome! He'd make a much better phantom! Love him though!
Why is no one saying it tho
Jordan sounds too much like the phantom.
Not my favorite Raoul. His voice is too amazing. Needs to be Phantom. I think Raoul should have a slightly more youthful voice.
Sierra you ruined the role of christine for me......I only want to hear you 😂 sorry Ali.
Exactly why did you come here?
I agree. Sierra is the best Christine ever!!!
I know, right??? Ali is absolutely adorable still! 😊
not very good
