The drummer Ian Paice is incredible 😍
Ian Paice, Pacy, is one of the great rock drummers in history. A lefty, he has the quickest wrists in rock, which allows him to play swing tempo’s like nobody. He and Purple have a killer catalog.
Paice is my number one rock drummer!
Number 1 for me also. He kills it in The Mule Live in Copenhagen 1972.
@@BeeLineEast Hey Michael! I've been wondering about you, hoping you're well. Great to see you here. Maybe Chod will react to your suggestion above. I also put in a vote for it. I think he'd really appreciate it, also being a drummer.
@@mickeyhank Yeah same here. I haven't seen you on for awhile unless I missed you. I've been checking out some of the older bands from the Sixty's. One I came across blew me away. The band The Misunderstood. Just discovered them on CZcams about a month ago. You should check them out. Misunderstood. Children Of The Sun. As well as I'm Not Talking. These guys came out with these 2 songs in 1965.
@@BeeLineEast I have been on reaction channels a lot less. Appreciate that recommendation. I'll check them out and come back and let you know what I think...interesting you have chosen one from that really early time period for rock.
Ian Paice: killing it for more than half a century
Ian Paice The Mule Live Copenhagen. 1972.
The first song I ever heard from Deep Purple was Fireball. It blew my mind. Still blows my mind now, 50 years later.
First for me too, back in those incredible years for music. Blew me away. Still feel the same after all this time too.
A-fukken-men.
My first DP song was Ring Of Fire. Really pissed it's never made it on to CD or streaming.
Deep Purple "Child in Time" Live 1970, also a live version of" Highway Star" is the speeding song
Highway Star Made in Japan video version. 🔥
PERFECT STRANGERS is another banger!
DEEP PURPLE ROCKS!
B U R N
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
This is one of the few hard rock groups I enjoyed in the 60's-70's. My favorites are their covers of Joe South's "Hush" & Neil Diamond's "Kentucky Woman". Also like "Smoke On The Water", "Child In Time", "Woman From Tokyo", "Highway Star", "Fireball", Speed King", "Space Truckin'", etc.
I've been listening to deep purple for over 45 year's ,,, and they are my number ONE rock band,,,,,,
Saw em live in, probably '75. Great show. I remember they were advertised as being the loudest band in rock and roll.
In 1969 I was 9 years old and my older sister had the 45 of Deep Purple doing Kentucky Woman. I thought it was an okay song but something told me to flip it over and play the other side, an instrumental called Wring That Neck. Purple immediately became my favorite band and 53 years later they still are
I love Kentucky Woman.
@@tbradley6250 I don’t mean to give the impression that it’s not a good song by any means. I just found the energy and drive of Wring That Neck to be so much more infectious. I love the original band as much as all the line ups that followed. Like all music it comes down to personal preference and there are no wrong opinions 👍
Kentucky Woman is so mellow comparing to this one. The lead singer was their first one before Ian Gillan. Not one of my favourites. This is more my groove for sure.
@@eviekelpie1 By the time this came out they were on their third ( and fourth) singer. Seems Purple were in a perpetual state of change but each line up brought something new to the table. Can’t imagine Coverdale singing Child in Time or Gillan singing Mistreated or Evans singing either( I consider the album with JLT to be Deep Rainbow so I don’t count him)
@@tbradley6250 awesome 🎸 solo
Ian Gillan, the second (and current) singer once called Deep Purple "an instrumental band with a singer", so you are in good company reacting like you do.
So cool to see her reaction to this 😊
You have to listen to Made In Japan. It is considered by millions to be the Greatest Live Album in History. It is Deep Purple Mark ll. Ian Paice the drummer is the Energizer Bunny. Incredible Stamina.
Especially on the original vinyl with Space Truckin'. Paicey gets a 64 beat on the bass drum with one pedal. Some bastard switched songs on the CD and I gave my vinyl to a friend.
One of the best displays of drumming in history !
Back in the mid '60s to the mid '70s we had some great keyboard players. Jon Lord of Deep Purple, Keith Emerson of Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Ray Manzarack of the Doors, Rick Wakeman of Yes and Doug Ingle of Iron Butterfly, Rod Argent of the Zombies and Argent, Gary Brooker of Procul Harum, to name a few, just lit up the airwaves.
Don't forget about Uriah Heep - Ken Hensley (RIP) could pound the keys, and David Byron also RIP) could match any vocalist of the time. Set aside some time to listen to their opus - "Salisbury" - czcams.com/video/zau-okpFssg/video.html Guitarist Mick Box slays it as well.
Left one out Edger Winter now your list is complete. lol, cheers Jon Lord the best of them all. Emerson Walkman is all tied for 1
They were my very first concert in the early 70s!
Saw them in 1972 Machine Head tour. With ELF and Fleetwood Mac.
Burn California Jam is the best version. Ian Paice excellent drummer. Highway Star Made in Japan video version next
Finally!!! This is the first song from Deep Purple that I played for my wife too! We jam out to them in the crib all the time now!
One of the best rock and roll songs ever. Check out High Ball Shooter, Fireball, and Strange Kind Of Woman by them- all rockers.
There's an awesome live version at California Jam from 1974. That really BUUUUURRRRRNS!
Good choice. Deep Purple burn 🔥 one of the best riffs ever. BTW my favorite band of all time. Thanks for giving them some love.
I love seeing you love this band. Ive been listening to them for almost 40 years and I still love it.
My favorite group as well., Ritchie, Paice, Lord, Coverdale and Hughes. Hard to beat. Two bands came out of this , Whitesnake and Rainbow
Ian Gillan is a better singer than David Coverdale
@@mikekeeler6362 hard to compare with such different styles.
Don’t forget Paice, Ashton and Lord and the Ian Gillan Band, later just Gillan
And half of Black Sabbath for a bit.
@@kjw1886 yes. Both Gillan and Hughes in Sabbath plus Paice was in Gary Moore’s band and working with McCartney
show her "child in time" live 1970 🙂
Fantastic!!! Ya turned her on to one of the trifecta bands of the 70s. Thanks Chad. Next song has to be Highway Star by Purple. Keep them rolling please!!!!!!!
If you haven’t seen it yet, watch Deep Purple play Burn at the ‘74 California Jam. Amazing performance
Hmmm….this is your band? I thought your band was Yes….and Zep. I think you have quite a few bands that are “yours”, as do I and most lovers of music! 😁
Yeah, I must have a 100 songs in my Top 10.
@@justinatest9456 You sound exactly like my husband!! LOL!!
too much great music, too little time....
I can't remember if I saw it or not, did you react to the little Japanese girl Yoyoka cover this? Man... I'm 54, been playing since 8, if I've hit it as good as her it was few and far between.
Deep Purple Sunday 💥
Chod & Mrs Chod this reaction made me soooo happy 💜💜💜
Out of their entire great catalogue of songs...this is my favorite. Great showcasing of all band members especially the great drumming of Ian Praice.
Stormbringer is another banger with David Coverdale as lead singer
Come taste the band isn't bad either,it was the only studio album by Purple featuring Tommy Bolin on guitar.
never get sick of listening to this, has so much pace, Ian is brilliant, the riff is so good and very recognisable, and never feels out dated, love it
thats fucking the best guitar solo probably
This guy is thinking "I need to start a cover band so I get to play the drums for this song!";)
Perfect Strangers Deep Purple
My favorite song from my favorite band! 🤘💜
Oh yea, Deep Purple are HOT! Sometime in the early '70s saw them in concert What a great show. The opening act was a little band I had never heard of -ZZ TOP! I am so sorry that you younger folks never had the opportunity to experience these great acts live. Deep Purple is one of my favorites too (right behind my beloved Humble Pie). A friend of mine in Europe, who is THE BIGGEST DP fan I know just sent me this beautiful song to sample. Could not be more different than BURN. Thats the beauty of DP, they are so diverse. This one is a masterpiece (lots of great organ):
czcams.com/video/yV8e_RkpiNA/video.html April/Deep Purple
Saw them in 1972 with the Bob Welch version of Fleetwood Mac opening along with a band called Elf with Ronnie James Dio on vocals
Hi Cindy. I was thinking of you today, because I was listening to some Small Faces. (Basically listening to two of their songs over and over) But I do have a question for you. I know you don't care for 80s hair metal, but I do wonder what your thoughts are of Whitesnake, David Coverdale's band who I beleive is singing lead in the Deep Purple song Dee and Chod just reacted to.
"Slow an Easy" But it is on the rated R side of songs.

@@bangmon1000 Hi Bang. Good to talk with you again. Thank you for sending the links to Whitesnake/David Coverdale. I listened to them, plus a few other live videos on YT so I could get a feel for Coverdale's style and sound. Yes, I did say I didn't care for 80's hair bands, but I hope you know I was speaking in generalities - I'm sure there are some especially good ones - I am just not familiar with them. One thing I have learned from Chod's viewer/contributors is that I am wrong to be so judgmental. I have been exposed to a great deal of music I thought I would not like, but have change my mind about. I have told you before that I kinda stopped listening to commercial radio around 1977/78, so I have missed out on a lot of that era's music. I have heard some of Whitesnakes "hits", but am not really well versed in their catalog. I really liked "Slow and Easy" and probably would like some of the other album cuts . David has a beautiful voice, and he must have been the singer when I saw DP in concert, don't really remember as I liked Ian's vocals as well. It was different back then as we did not have MTV and I didn't really know the individual players that well, just liked the band. I also think David is very handsome, especially in the later videos when he is older - his face has a lot of character and his hair isn't so BIG (-: I just yesterday received a book from Amazon called "Smoke on the Water- the Deep Purple Story". Hopefully I will learn more about the individuals - DP is confusing because they had so many different musicians and varying styles. I LOVE reading the personal stories and backgrounds on these artists - recently was studying Tommy Bolin
(a DP alumni who died tragically at 25), another very talented but troubled rock star. I am drawn to troubled artists as they are the most interesting and it fascinates me how they are often the most talented.
Speaking of which, right now I am reading - for the 3rd time!- "All too Beautiful", my favorite Steve Marriott biography (there are 3 just about Steve + memoirs by Peter Frampton, Jerry Shirley, Kenney Jones and Ian McLagan) Talk about fascinating - Steve was an enigma, so much talent, but many demons also. As Peter says in his memoir "I wish Steve wasn't crazy, but then maybe he wouldn't have been so talented" Sad, but true.
What are your thoughts? Also, which Small Faces song have you been listening to so much? Curious as they are my absolute favorite band (except perhaps Beatles).
Sorry to take up so much space in the comments section. Probably annoying to others. I just love talking music and rock history. I have several friends I have met on YT that I talk with privately. If you ever wish to talk more, and feel comfortable with it, we can exchange email address. I don't do Facebook.
@@BeeLineEast saw them Nov 10 in Hershey park Pa
@@BeeLineEast Cool. What a great time to be young. I miss seeing live concerts. It's too expensive now, alas....
Don't forget Richie Blackmore's incredible guitar solo. For more of their catalog ... oh, there are so many ... well for more drums, I would actually send you Lay Down, Stay Down because they have some really nice stuff there. Other great songs of theirs are of course, Smoke On The Water, Highway Star, Space Truckin', Lazy, Sail Away, Mistreated and My Woman From Tokyo. Yes, I know, you've done some of them before ... but your WIFE hasn't heard them.
I was twelve or thirteen years old when this album made me realize that I liked hard rock. The whole album is absolute fire (no pun intended), but "Mistreated" and "Sail Away" are my recommendations for your next listen/ reaction.
Love all of those deeply !!! Used to play Sail Away to warm up before playing with my band.
"Sail away" is a seriously underrated song.
@@TTTT-oc4eb Right back at cha 💯%👍😎 !!!
@Bookhouse Boy Paice and Hughes are on fire on You Fool No One. Turn up the bass and listen to Hughes. Of course Paice comes through loud and clear on everything
@@TTTT-oc4eb Ritchie has said Sail Away is his favorite song on this album and that Man On The Silver Mountain was in the same style
Also from the same album Check out. (Lay down stay down ) & ( I can't stay here) ( Mistreated) thanks, from
Chris Davidson...from one music lover to another!
One song I’d love for you to react to is “Smooth Dancer”, it is a Deep Purple song. I loved it from the first time I heard it, but never hear it on the radio much less anyone reacting to it. Please check it out.
Rat bat blue
Deep Purple!!!!!!!!
The way John Lord played the organ in this song, it almost seemed like he popped out an extra pair of hands for that solo.
Check Tommy Bolin with Deep Purple!!
"Dealer" - from their last album of the 70's " Come Taste the Band". 🔥
Come Taste The Band my fav DP album. It has gotten better with age while some of their others have not fared as well
@@flyingburritobro68 Mine as well!!
No one has reacted.
Also Tommy Bolin - Teaser &
Private Eyes!
Well, now you gotta do Highway Star!!!!😁
great song, great reaction!
maybe some other roadsongs from Deep Purple? Speedking and highwaystar
She must see Jon Lord play
Super fun reaction. Great to re-visit your channel, Chod. Reactions are as good as ever. My first one seeing your wife. She had excellent observations. Amazing track, for sure. I heard Ian Paice, the drummer, say about this song, "it's basically a drum solo in every verse." For another outstanding drum track on this album I suggest "Lay Down, Stay Down". As a drummer you'll dig it, I feel.
Glenn Hughes voice!!!
You also should watch Deep Purple at the California Jam 74. They start with Burn. It has just come out not long before the Concert.
Great reactión!! Smoke in the water Live 1972!!!
I love, love, LOVE the Johann Sebastian Bach references on the electric organ. This is why Deep Purple is on another level.
Every Song is Awesome on this album, Please Play every song on this album!
I first heard this on 8 track in 1974
Yeah see was burned 🔥..lol
My favorite Purple song
you guys are funny...enjoyed your reaction! "son do you know you were speeding"..."Deep Purple, Burn" "oh, I got you...you're free to go" (that may well have happened who knows how many times to all of us back in the day...well, the speeding and the "Burn" on the tunes parts...& maybe on your luckier days the "free to go" ;-)
you guys have to check out Stormbringer by Deep Purple
Great album. One of their best.
Burn is a great jam 👌 love that driving guitar 🎸💜
Love BOTH of your reactions! I feel the same way about Deep Purple. Thanks for sharing this with us.
ESTE ES EL VERDADERO FUCKING SONG DEEP PURPLE LA MEJOR BANDA DEL MUNDO EN SU ÉPOCA!!!
Sons of Anarchy? Good, then you should listen to Deep Purple playing "Highway Star" and "Space Truckin' ". Especially the later...
Deep Purple has plenty, most people have heard the instantly identifiable riff of "Smoke on the Water", which is a classic.
One of my favourite songs. Chod, your wife needs to rock a bit more. I don't know how anyone can sit still to this song
Wilburn since you like Jon Lord, I would recommend you to look up Deep Purple Speed King live Perihelion. The interchange between Steve Morse and Jon Lord and the improvisation will blow your mind. Not to mention Ian Paice's drum solo.
One of DP guitarists Tommy Bolin. (What a poor tortured soul. RIP) has the Song and album Teaser. Good stuff.
You should definitely check out the live version. Pure Fire 🔥
IMO their best song 🤘
Un ded plus beaux morceau avec chid in time 🎸🎸🎸🎸👏🎶🎶🎤🎤👍👍👍👍
Deep Purple, Burn a great classic DP song with all the DP sounds and dimensions. Rock, classical and blues all there. The next DP reaction should be the entire Machine Head album. That is top shelf rock in any list. For me it is Jon Lord who add that extra dimension to DP over other heavy rock bands. Also maybe it's time to introduce your better half to Yes. They redefine music in so many ways.
Chod check out Sina Drums' cover of Burn. Ian Paice from DP actually reacted to Sina. It's AWESOME!!
He also reacted to Yoyoka's cover too.
@@tomlafleche332 Yes he did. All three did a collaboration together. SpaceTruckin.
BEST British Rock band EVER!
Classical influences in solos of the guitar and the keyboards from Paganini, Scarlatti, Albinioni and the Bach family, however Purple evolve these classical themes even further. The guitar and all the instruments are played by people not by drum machines or automatic sound creation machine usually used in pop music.
Wonderful song, thank you
Smoke On The Water or Child In Time should be next for her.
It is a great driving tune
Check the live version from Live in London by the band Whitesnake. Incredible stuff.
you can hear their sense of humor in this gem ''ANYONE'S DAUGHTER'' from the Fireball album.
The live version from 1972 in California is the best version of this song I think. Glenn Hughes vocals there were incredible. I think some of the greatest live rock vocals ever. The man was wailing on bass and crushing it.
Dude, I seen them on the tour for this album and yeah, between Hughes and Cloverdale they both were head banging and with the long hair and the fog, it was frigging awesome. I think she'd like some of the other tunes off this album and the Stormbringer album. Alotta soul and kinda funky. The reason Blackmore left. Yeah. Peace
Coverdale, new kid on the block, and what a kid!
Watch The California Jam 1974 Version !! It SMOKES !!
Ah memories of my youth deep purple
I think you also may like Deep Purple, Strange KInda Woman
The most exciting rock song. Speed King second. Says it all!
deep purple is awesome
I wore this 8-TRACK out... anyone else's break while in your car's 8-track player?
England produced so much great music in the 60’s and 70’s. Dude they aren’t Zeppelin!
Best numbers on this album are
Sail away and the amazing “ you fool no one “
The sky is red, I don't understand
Past midnight I still see the land
People are sayin' the woman is damned
She makes you burn with a wave of her hand
The city's a blaze, the town's on fire
The woman's flames are reaching higher
We were fools, we called her liar
All I hear is "Burn!"
I didn't believe she was devil's sperm
She said, "Curse you all, you'll never learn!
When I leave there's no return "
The people laughed till she said, "Burn!"
Warning came, no one cared
Earth was shakin', we stood and stared
When it came no one was spared
Still I hear "Burn!"
You know we had no time
We could not even try
You know we had no time
You know we had no time
We could not even try
You know we had no time
The sky is red, I don't understand
Past midnight I still see the land
People are sayin' the woman is damned
She makes you burn with a wave of her hand
Warning came, no one cared
Earth was shakin, we stood and stared
When it came no one was spared
Still I hear "Burn!"
Deep Purple Burn with encore and the Wifey. GBY
Something i figured out was - coronarias(Latin) - coronary, redig ( Latin) redigare - binding, "to tie something with something", the human and the divine , about the song coronarias redig
Amazing fills by Ian Paice.
Check out the CAL JAM 1974 .Burn or just the whole DP Session ,why not ..
Check the live Version to California Jam. Crazy!!!
Check out a drummer named Yoyoka -- this is one of the top covers on her youtube page.
Take a deep deep adventure and give a listen to the Shield from Purple from 1968 you will not be disappointed and you will be surprised
Thank you Chaud for introducing your wife to my all time favorite band. There was a little personal change in this album in case you didn't know. First there were technically two singers David Coverdale and Glen Hughes they at this point replaced Ian Gillian who did all the vocals Glen replaced Roger Glover on Bass
And then of Course there is the one and only Ritchie Blackmore on guitar
The late great Jon Lord on Keys and Organ. And my third all time favorite drummer Ian Paice
Driving down the highway.....hm, that requires either "Highway Star" or something completely different, "Ventura Highway" by America. :)
Check out Yoyoka doing the drum cover for this song. ... You might actually want to do a reaction to it, it's that good. She was 11 when she covered it.
Way late on this but yeah, Jon Lord is pretty much across the board a top 3 rock keyboardist ever, between him Tony Kaye (Yes), and Keith Emerson. Personal preference usually dictates what order people put them in
