But it was thrown to her face that she would *never* have the father even if she had the kid.
So she gave up the kid to his father because what she really wanted was his money and admitted to herself that if she can't force him to love her, then she can't force herself to love the child. She's not a good mother and never will be. The least she could do was not dig herself into a deeper hole and give it up peacefully.

What that selfish vile woman did is unforgiven by trying to destroy his boss's marriage all because she wanted to marry him so she could live in a luxury life by trying to get herself pregnant 🤰by him since she believe his wife Mary never wanted children with him but that's not true at all and beside the only person who never wanted children in the first place is really herself as she only used the baby for her selfish goal. Why didn’t the just adopt a child if she couldn’t have kids because of her health
Could be Mary needed time to mourn her loss of ability to have her own before she would be ready to adopt. Sometimes people need time to adjust to the reality of their situation before they can move on with it. The maid mistook this grief for dislike of children when it was actually accepting that she wouldn't experience pregnancy or childbirth, which she *wanted* to experience.
To put it simply: she wasn't ready to adopt. And the most important thing about adopting is you have to be *ready* and *wanting* for it be a success. After all, the lesson is that you can't force love. And these children *need* it to come freely, not selfishly.
