    It all makes sense now!
In the post-credit scene of On Stranger Tides, we see that Angelica has obtained the voodoo doll of Jack, and by her expression we can tell that she desires to use it for revenge. THAT is why Jack had so much bad luck and was not himself in this film, Angelica had been messing with him!
That could at least be a lore explanation.

@@TheSEAempire You forgot that Salazar was controlled by his own desire for revenge, so of course he will still want to kill others instead of fearing his own life after becoming a human again.
For the other characters, i guess they mostly got by the woke script writing. Except for Jack, he possibly was already know that he will be fired soon (you know because the drama that he got into with his ex-wife) so he maybe didn't really gave too much s**t about the role.

While I appreciated Stranger Tides for trying to spin off, and not continue the story of the first three movies, this one did that, and it's genuinely infuriating. Also, one hole that Ryan George pointed out, how is Will alive? All the curses were broken, right? And Will had to have his heart cut out, so they can keep him alive, which implies magic. So if all the magic is gone, shouldn't Will be dead then?

I agree with your critiques in this video. I love the first 3 movies and I even like On Stranger Tides quite a lot, I find it to be very underrated.
Dead Men Tell No Tales… I enjoy the last few scenes of the movie well enough, but most of it is a train wreck. The worst part for me is how they completely destroyed Jack’s character. Also the score was really missing Hans Zimmer’s wonderful work.

I myself do quite like the flashback scene, there's a tad more substance than anything else in the film but what they did with the compass is both ridiculous and inexcusable. The trident also has the same problem of causing catastrophic continuity issues.
I've always wished this film was about Will and his adventures on the Dutchman, ferrying souls to the after life. There's so much storytelling potential there. Jack might be able to be worked in, like imagine if he was losing a bit of his touch and became worried, eventually being hired by a new villain with business with Will to hunt and kill him.
The villain could have heard of tales of Jack and been interested in hiring him. As Jack's reputation depletes, he gets a chance to become a legend once again but at the cost of Will. I think it'd be cool to pose them against each other and deepen their relationship and conflict throughout the film

Would you ever consider making a video about how they could have made a better Potc 5 and maybe 6 if we felt it was needed? Like having Elizabeth as a central figure to the plot, not killing Barbossa, giving new characters an actual personality, and not destroying the characters we already know and love. I also didn't fully catch that Gibbs wasn't the same in this movie compared to others. Given that Will isn't cursed to the Dutchman, why not make it they're trying to protect his heart from being taken or find a way for him to be with his family more often?

It’s so ironic that in the first three films, villains who appeared monstrous and intimidating are sympathetic and have suffered fate worst than death similar to Frankenstein’s Monster while the normal and fully human villains are far more menacing, like Lord Beckett, but in On Stranger Tides, they decided to write a monstrous villain as menacing as he how he looked like we’re supposed to judge a book by its cover. Yes, he is evil before he became a monster, but his fate would’ve been in the plot of the movie or in the climax if that helps.

  • @Cton9573

Regarding Barbossa's sacrifice, I genuinely feel that if nothing else, the intention behind it was actually pretty great. Having a character who's mainly acted selfishly throughout the franchise end his life to protect that of those he cares about selflessly is kinda sorta genius and something I'd consider to be an interesting way to end Barbossa's character. In excecution I definitely wish that there had been more time to develop him and Carina's relationship as father and daughter, but you can still feel that general idea in the film with what little time we get to explore them (which mainly just comes down to DMTNT's severe pacing issues but whatever).
Other than that excellent video as usual. It feels really good to see these things, some of which have been at the back of my mind for months finally be acknowledged by a video about this film, specially the Trident of Poseidon points.

Since you're one of the biggest Pirates of the Caribbean experts, I'd like you to answer this question: Much of Dead Man's Chest is build on the fact that Jack can't get the compass to point to Davy Jones's heart. Why was he confused on what he needed to do? Especially since it was rather easy for Elizabeth, who knew jackshit about the chest?

I like Salazar as a character concept, and the actor was perfect. Unfortunately yeah, some of his writing was kinda bad and lacked depth. A vigilante capitan hunting pirates and believing himself morally justified in every crime because he does, sounds super cool. They could have toned down the supernatural aspect a bit, and not made them invincible whilst having the power to seemingly do anything the plot required. Woulda been neat if they were an elite mercenary crew, had a bit of ghost powers, but otherwise just outskilled the main cast instead of using their insane powers all the time.
That's about all I really care about from the movie though. The trident or whatever, and a lot of the shenanigans of not-Elizabeth were incredibly forgettable. They also did ruin basically everything the prior movies did.
Man, this movie really was the star wars sequel trilogy equivalent of pirates, but at least Javier absolutely nailed his role.

There be another thing that bothered me about this film. Why didn't barbossa use the Trident Sword? That thing can make a ship operate on its own, and even if he couldn't control the Silent Mary, he could still control Queen anne's Revenge and stand a bit o' a chance.

I like Captain Salazar, but that was mostly due to Javier Bardem's acting. I've seen people say that the reason giving away the compass never caused Jack's greatest fear to manifest was because he never truly DID give it away, with no expectation or intent of getting it back, as he did here. Letting Will or whoever end up with the compass was always part of whatever scheme Jack was orchestrating at the moment, the conclusion of which he knew ahead of time would see his beloved compass back in his hands. That makes sense actually. What's harder to explain is yes yes, the whole "compass bartered from Tia Dalma who's this guy giving it to Jack after he dies" bit. People have said that he might have received the compass from her as Dead Man's Chest established, then (in some unknown and off-screen instance) given it to the guy who formally returns it to Jack upon his death in this movie. That is also somewhat believable. I do agree that both of these require a good deal of waving away of specific details from previous movies to work.

Now I know there was stuff happening with Johnny Depp but that doesn't really make up the script since the script was terrible even if he wasn't having issues and the only moment where he felt like Jack was in the scene where Jack as a kid tricks the villain of the movie the only scene where Jack actually was Jack in every other scene Jack is just not Jack at all
Oh when they all thought the Black Pearl was sunken Jack says (she was a fine ship) REALLY? That was Jacks baby he loved the pearl and just look at his reaction when Barbossa said he lost it, The real Jack Sparrow would have lost it if he thought his ship was gone forever
