    This has such an amazing cast, but Key & Peele as Ducky & Bunny had me cracking up, and Keanu Reeves did a great job as Duke Caboom. Also, it was so amusing to me that Forky keeps trying to jump in the trash. Honestly this was a cash grab kind of project, but they actually did a great job in furthering the old characters while creating something new and interesting with the new characters. It's a great addition to the series that doesn't feel tacked on, at least to me anyway. I've noticed that some people seem to cling on to the trilogy format because it's been done so much, but there is no rule saying how many you can come out with. Just an observation. 🤔

    While this movie was pretty unnecessary, and way better than it has any right to be, you can consider it an epilogue: 3 was Andy's ending, donating his old toys to Bonnie, someone who has more use for them, and 4 is Woody's ending, saying farewell to his old Roundup gang, reuniting with the long lost love of his life.

    I really love the message. Woody always make sure that Andy and Bonnie are happy, now it's his turn to make himself happy. You may outgrown your purpose and feel useless but you can always find a new and grander purpose in life. Toy Story movies are so deep, I hate it when others said it's just a kids movie.

  • @JiReyAnimation

    Many people don't agree with Woody leaving the gang for Bo. That Woody is being selfish. But here's the thing, Woody has been nothing but selfless and loyal for so long, and it came to the point where he was being selfless at the cost of his own happiness. There is such a thing as being too selfless. So, is it better to stay where you are, because you have your friends, your family and a job, even if you're not happy? This movie teaches that sometimes in order to move ahead in life and be happy, you have to make one selfish choice. It's a hard choice, and you might have to leave your safe life behind. But if playing it safe is not making you happy, it's okay to change the routine. It doesn't mean Woody doesn't care about his friends and family. He does, and they understood that he wasn't happy anymore, so they let him go.

      "Many people don't agree with Woody leaving the gang for Bo. That Woody is being selfish. "
      Those people are ALL stupid. Stupid and wrong.
      No, it's THOSE people that are selfish. They're the ones demanding that nothing ever change and that the status quo for a movie franchise never evolve because they're entitled and selfish. Anyone who claims Woody was being "selfish" is just projecting their own faults onto him because they can't come to terms with their own selfishness.

    • @JiReyAnimation
      @JiReyAnimation Před 2 lety +15

      @@the-NightStar Woody IS being selfish. He's not doing this for anyone but himself. The point is that being selfish isn't inherently a bad thing. It's being too selfish that's the problem, just like being too selfless can be a problem too. It's all about balance. As long as you're not stepping on other people to be happy (like being greedy), it's okay to be selfish every once in a while. And like you said, people wanting Woody to stay would be more selfish of them, because they're thinking of themselves over Woody's happiness. THAT is being too selfish.

    20:12 When this movie released, this was the year that Keanu basically revived and broked the internet that year.
    He basically found out in 2019 that he was a celebrity favorite on the internet even though he avoids a lot of social media.
    That was when he filmed the long anticipated John Wick 3 film, he was asked to star in a Netflix special titled "Always Be My Maybe," announced his role here in Toy Story 4, and even made an appearance at E3 2019 promoting Cyberpunk 2077.
    The internet loved him greatly that year and we still do today.

  • @MuchWhittering
    @MuchWhittering Před 2 lety +45

    I have a bone to pick with this movie. It's all about Woody trying to get over losing Andy. That's fine, but in Toy Story 2 Andy's mum describes him as "an old family toy", which, given his age, makes sense, so he probably came from Andy's dad. Which means Woody has had a previous owner, who is never mentioned here despite it being massively relevant to Woody's character.

    • @lozlullaby7947
      @lozlullaby7947 Před 2 lety +12

      I think I can actually explain this one! One of the creators of Toy Story (i dont know his name unfortunately) told his closest friend before he passed about the story of Woody. So Andy's dad was also called Andy and had Polio which made him ill. After he grew up he placed Woody and Slinky (who was also an old toy) in a box in the attic. Fast forward to our Andy being a child and his dad was about to pass away due to complications with Polio, so he gave his son Woody. Since Woody wasn't really "awake" during this transition period after being stored for so long in the attic, he didn't realize that the new Andy (ours) wasn't the original Andy. This is meant to explain why he's even more protective of him because he thinks that our Andy is the original Andy. There's more to it and you'll likely be able to find it if you google "woody's story" or something but yeh hope that helps!

    • @BlackGirlMarvel
      @BlackGirlMarvel Před 2 lety +4

      Well he's an old family toy which means he's been in Andy's family for generations, so he's always had a person or someone to play with him. It doesn't have to be mentioned, you can feel the weight on Woody's character as he's not the favorite anymore and his ONLY job, to him anyway, no longer exists. It fits the narrative of the films and his character perfectly to me.

  • @hellowhat890
    @hellowhat890 Před 2 lety +6

    4:44 Well, it's a sad and really subtle reference in the third movie.
    Woody at the beginning acknowledges they lost friends along the way. He lists off the toys that are no longer with them. Rex brings up Bo Peep which definitely makes that and this moment sadder.

    I think one of the producers or something said that if they did a 5th, it’s at least a decade away. Tim Allen said he had tears when he recorded his last lines for this. He turned the mic and table around in the soundbooth so the sound engineers and staff wouldn’t see him choke up on the line. “She’ll be ok. Bonnie, will be ok” “He’s not lost, not anymore. Toy Story 3 will always be the true ending for me, it is perfect in every way. Everything comes full circle, the toys have fulfilled their purpose in being there for Andy and he's ready to move on with his life. Now they get to fulfill that same role in another kids life. I was the same age as Andy when the original Toy Story came out, I literally grew up alongside Andy, so this story hits so much harder for kids of that generation. I just can't accept Toy Story 4 because of how it treats the characters and the messages of the original 3. When you so clearly define Woody's character one way and then just throw it all away with a weak justification at best... I can't help but see it as a nostalgia cash grab.

    If they ever do a Toy Story 5, they should just focus on Buzz and Jesse's group and let Woody live his life because I feel like Buzz needs to know how to become a leader and Jesse needs to finally get over her claustrophobia I guess. What's the saddest is thinking about what Woody and the gang have been through and Woody then accentually leaving his family basically and his best friend Buzz. But like you said bittersweet because Woody can finally be with Bo and again be free and feel like he's accomplished his mission and onto another journey in his life.

  • @TheRedcat14
    @TheRedcat14 Před 2 lety +2

    I remember watching this and being like “okay, this is really about Woody so far…” and in my mind I was trying to figure how they’d come up with a climax for this story specifically… and even then I didn’t predict Woody running off to be with Bo and it fr *wrecked me* LOL I bawled my eyes out. As soon as Woody put his hands up onto the ledge, echoing the scene in the beginning of the movie where he put his hands on the box that Bo was being taken away in, I knew that the choice was happening and felt the lump in my throat.
    The part where Gabby gets cast aside, even with the voice box, really caught me off guard too and allowed for a beautiful character building moment for Woody and Gabby. Like, what kids movie could turn Gabby’s scary ass into someone you’re rooting for by the end?? So good.
    For the ending alone, I really think this is my favorite film in the series.

    My takeaway from the 4th movie: You don't have to keep taking on thankless work, especially when nobody needs you to do it anymore. After you've fulfilled your obligations it's okay to take time for yourself, to be a little selfish and live your own life on your own terms.
    Woody earned that retirement a thousand times over, he made sure his friends and family were taken care of.

Once in live action then that footage was used as reference to animate. You can find the reference footage on CZcams. And sometime it’s funnier then the movie.

    This movie wasn't my favorite compared to how 3 ended, but overall I found it enjoyable. My main issue, and the reason I've only watched it once, is how upsetting it was to see Woody give up his voice box. I don't think there's enough characters here for me to accurately explain why it was so upsetting. In short, it didn't sit right with me for a character to give something up of theirs, something that someone tried to take by brutal force, just because they desperately wanted it.

  • @observantwonderer7401
    @observantwonderer7401 Před 2 lety +1

    Heres why I don't like what they did with Toy Story 4: I'm not saying it's a bad movie at all and honestly the concepts they explore is really interesting (lost toys, kids creating playthings that become toys, antique toys, Buzz'es soul searching etc) and the "villain" is very interesting and she got a good ending too and it's very emotional, but it undos the last by 1A) not having the 3rd be the last and B) it makes you wish Woody stayed with Andy
    Becoz Bonnie just deciding that Woody isn't not her favourite anymore (or even just not playing with him period) just feels like a slap in the face to Woody and Andy, if Woody became so expendable that he could become a lost Toy is just like... What was the point? Like you said the sad thing isn't Woody leaving Bonnie it's Woody leaving his group but if in 4 he was going to end up leaving _anyway_ then Andy should have just kept him bc Andy even as an adult still cared about Woody and it turns out woody sacrificed EVERYTHING for nothing bc Bonnie ended up not caring about him. I'm glad that Woody found Bo and we get to see were she was this whole time abd whatever but like... I didn't care about Bo, and it's not like I was asking for a background on her either and Woody was fine without her so from that perspective we didn't need this movie
