I absolutely hear what you're saying, but there's also the other side of the coin. Many people are working soul depleting jobs in toxic environments where there is virtually no time to do the things they love, let alone rest sufficiently. And mind you all of these sacrifices are being made for a peanut pay. You essentially live to work and that sh!t becomes depressing and draining.

I think all of this comes from having an unhealthy amount of exposure to media outlets. These people who are telling us to follow our passion have made that content in order to get paid. This video was much needed. Thank you.

The difference between a hobby and a business is that your main goal with a hobby is enjoyment. A business is offering something most people will pay for. It's the priority.. money or enjoyment.

So, our parents were right after all. We need jobs. That's the thing about old people - they have actually experienced life, so maybe in some cases they do know what's true, like the fact that life is humbling. I wish you and everyone else all the success and happiness you can stand.

I left a well paying job in corporate to become a school teacher because I felt that that was my passion and purpose but I have been struggling financially and I'm miserable as a result so I can relate. I wish I had thought things through before I took the leap. I'm planning to start teaching online so I can have more flexibility to potentially make more money whilst doing what I love but then again there are quite a number of cons with online teaching as well argh it's rough!

This is true. People shouldn't do their hobbies or follow their passions with the intent to make money. If their hobby/passion ends up generating income for them. It's something to be proud of, yes. However, it's never a green light for someone to think they can use it to make a living or create wealth unless their hobby/passion is a highly demanded service/product that helps or serves society, just like you stated.

I'm glad this got recommended. I think the key is to find the sweet spot is between what you love, what you know/skilled at, and what people are willing to pay for
I always liked teaching which is my purpose, and I found my niche by realizing I was good at marketing and had skills that I could leverage, and coaching is something people are willing to pay for.
I think you can definitely have the 3,but you got to think it through

Hi Kay I totally feel you. I was lost for a long time, did the whole engineering thing then moved away from engineering to digital. When I got to digital it was not the best paying job but I picked up a lot of skills along the way working for agencies and tech companies. When I was still working I had side projects but still kept the job. The plan was to eventually quit my job and focus fully on side projects.
Life had different plans for me. The rona came and I lost my job but that turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me. I was now forced to grow my side project to a business. Luckily because of all the experience and skills from my previous jobs I was able to make it work.
I had a passion for digital and the internet so I immersed myself in that world. Life has a plan for all of us, I hated some moments of working but those moments are contributing to what I can do now.
I have never worked as an engineer but I feel like an engineering education has helped me become a better problem solver, so I can come up with solutions in every environment.
As far as corporate and following your passion. I believe your passion can make you money but you must keep your corporate job until your passion makes enough money (equal or more than your job) for you to quit.
If it cannot make more money, keep the job and still pursue your passion on the side. Most peoples jobs are not their passion in any case, just a means to make money.

Hello Kay, I found your video to be very informative and an answer from God actually. I have been struggling with this for many years, and in the meantime, have lost a lot of time doubting myself. I really appreciate how to broke the three concepts - passion, gifts/talents, monetization of these, and skill. I really have enjoyed watching and listening to you. This is a concept that I will be sharing with my kids. We are born with so many talents, and can learn so many skills, we really should be exploring ourselves fully. I wish you well with your endeavours, do keep your head up. BTW, I love this sort of content, make-up or not I just love it. Thank you once again, stay blessed!

I also wanted to add that I think it’s possible to leverage passions/interests/hobbies while job-hunting. For example, if someone is a marketing major and they genuinely love planners, they can leverage that hobby/passion/interest by applying to social media marketing roles for planner companies because it speaks to that person’s fit for the role/company. What do you think of this-leveraging a passion vs monetizing it?

Profound opinions for a relatable yet complex topic🔥
I believe that complexity lies on a spectrum. So there's a question that keeps lingering in my mind - given that all you've said is fairly true, how does one then thrive to find the balance across all those aspects (money, passion & work) if they don't lie under the same category? Unlike your Beyonce? It'd be intriguing to talk about that also.
In my opinion, there are definitely pros and cons to not having these aspects under one umbrella. You can be an expert in your field of work and make alot of money from it, right? The major problem is how is it going to be sustainable if you don't even love your job nor have the tolerance for it? Do you stick around for the sake of making ends meet for the rest of your life? To sustain a lifestyle? I think that's a recipe for misery & depression which is ought to catch up with you in the long run. Hence, I reiterate my question above.
Otherwise, your content is so authentic & eye-opening❤️❤️🔥🔥Great video.

Totally agree with you. There's no use being in a job just for the sake of having a job if it's making you miserable, sick and depressed. Life is to short too be doing something that you don't enjoy for the rest of your life. The things that we're passionate about won't look realistic to those that don't understand your vision, and yes, there will be challenges and hardships along the way, but one thing that should keep you going is your why. When you hold on to that, everything you experience in that journey will be worth it in the end. Entrepreneurship is not for everyone and we should be aware of the realities of it and of the job market as well, but fear mongering is what will keep people stuck. Before you gain you will lose first.
