+TheMrmatthewparker it's because of the framerate issues that was talked about. On my computer (which isn't the best, not the worst) I got solid 60 through and through. It's better on the PC in that way.
finished it today in one sitting, the story is really engaging and kept me on the edge of my seat for most of the playthrough. some of the navigation in the woods is challenging, which is pretty much the only aspect of the game that poses any "gameplay" obstacles. the frame rate is really unstable though, and there are bugs. i even happened to lose progress on a chapter due to a freeze up. that aside, this game is highly recommended.

Your video def sold me on wanting to play this game , I love all types of games , and especially games that do things differently and I’m fine with just a narrative driven story and the art style seems immersive and appealing to me as well , I will def give this game a try and thanks for convincing me ! Great job 🙌
been stoked about this game for about 5 months and purchased it on steam a week before it came out for $17 bucks (was so hyped I was prepared to pay twice that) and I can honestly say it was everything I had hoped. played it in two sittings (4 hours total) and I can only imagine how much better one sitting would be. I agree for the most part of this overview of it, however any feelings or open questions I have left keep me wanting more, and I know there won't be more, makes me think about it and appreciate it so muchcmore. so I'm going to buy every game Campo Santo releases to hopefully get that feeling again. I love this game and am so happy it lived up to my expectations, the game industry really needs a breath of fresh air that is Fire Watch.
Just beat it my thoughts: SPIOLERS! Decent game, wait till it's around $10 on sale though. The story offers alot of great moments and has made me feel a certain way of "Oh shit!" that no other game has quite offered me before. The dialogue feels very natural and feels very real, on par with any triple A game on the market, graphics are also awesome. my problems are that i personally was expecting a murder mystery that involved being trapped in the woods with some sort of axe murdering psycho. and thats exactly how it felt... until the last 15 minutes of the game.... *SPIOLERS START HERE* Both missing "Victims" turn out to be completely fine and just winded up drunk stealing a tractor. The main antagonist turns out to be Ned, who now just aimlessly fucks with you the whole game because he got his son(Brian) killed in a climbing accident. the spy camp is never quite explained, and neither is the overhead phone call in the beginning(Which i'm now assuming is just D's boyfriend Javier), and D pretty much ditches out at the end, even if you spent the whole game romancing her and no matter how hard you ask her to wait she just says "Sorry i gotta go" because waiting 10 minutes was too much to ask for someone who spent an entire summer talking to her.this feeling would equate to spending 90 dollars on a date and the girl saying "Well that was fun, but i got to go home and get some sleep. My boyfriends picking me up tomorrow morning!". And you never see D and the only other real modeled character that isn't just a blacked out figure is just a firefighter that picks you up at the end in a helicopter
Mr44andMore Really? that makes sense. Still very disappointing though. I'll probably end up picking it up for a replay a couple months from now when i forget about it. Though i do got to say it's quite suspicious that the story is ends up being just above the refund timer by about 20 - 40 minutes if mildy rushed. idk might just be me
I love the whole story in Firewatch. The new mode "Free Roam" is great, too. The graphics are great. It reminds a little bit of the old "Magnetic Scrolls" Adventure games in 2D and old Textparser. The story is really linear, and thats the strength of the game. Coupled with the movement in 3D makes it a easy-to-play, easy-to-understand and easy-to-focus-on-the-story feeling. You do not have to focus on the million keycombinations or "how to calibrate my joypad". Its just click and play. Simple. Easy and with a strong story and a message at the end. You can look at the other game "The Long Dark" and you got a similar feeling. The action in "Firewatch" never revolves around survival or die principles. It revolves around the decisions one makes in live and how they can change. I learned a lot from this game, more as from games like Fallout 4, or Far Cry. It comes without DLC´s to buy and you get it even in DRM-free version at GOG.com. Give the game a chance! It has something to say to the player. Just have fun with whichever kind of game you prefer.
Just played this game for the first time 3/29/22. Amazing game that makes me want more. I needed to stop and do other things but I was way too into this game and ended up finishing in one sitting. Wish there were more like it
I agree, I almost bought but, but then I just didn't because I'm just not sure... I am going to get this one though. Looks beautiful, and I will check back in once I've played it.
Unravel SUCKS. It's not a goddam video game, it's an "art piece". You basically just move around in a goddam art piece. Beautiful? Who cares? IT'S NOT A GAME. Just like "Flowers", omg did that shit suck.
So I finished this game today and absolutely loved it, possibly one of my favourite games of all time. I played on 1440p on max settings and did not have any framerate issues whatsoever, so maybe I just got lucky. The only problem I had was the length of the game itself. I completed the game in 5 hours and noticed there were many areas where the story could be further expanded solely for greater immersion or just for fun. I also found that in some areas of the game, the developers were being a bit lazy and holding back on mechanics which could have been more complex, but this was barely noticed. I would easily give this game a 9.9/10.
Spoiler Alert: I personally loved this game. I haven't had a good, immersive game in a long time and I really felt connected to Henry. Everyone complains about the ending, but I loved it. The whole game was an emotional ride, starting with depressing you with the backstory, a past you want to escape from for a bit. Then the isolation becomes enjoyable as you have someone new to talk to, and spend a lot of time joking with since she's the only one you have. As things progress, paranoia sets in as it seems like you're a test subject to some grand conspiracy. But in the end, there's no conspiracy. You were just the victim of a grieving hermit who didn't know what to do with himself but to watch you. As Henry explains this to Delilah, his voice isn't relieved or angry, but disappointed. They really played us and then the abrupt ending was honestly great. Here you are, spending so much time with yourself in a beautiful setting, all the time you wanted, and a personal adventure, and just like that, it's over and you're forced to go back to what you were escaping from
Fun fact… if you just stand there for 2 minutes at the end of the game the helicopter leaves without you. Not sure what happens (the game just ends yoire just still there) but it adds yet another layer to an interesting ending to say the least.
Very accurate review. Wanted to share regarding the framerate drops for me they were in very fixed locations it seems. I am running a bit underspec PC and was playing the Linux version. One specific area that would just slow down to hell was the trail dogleg just west of the campsite approaching Jonesy Lake. Whether I was entering or leaving I would have a huge burst of framerate lag. There was also this same issue entering or leaving Thunder Canyon just below the lookout. Outside of that if you love a good story SPEND the cash. The amount of spoken dialog in such a short game is incredible making the story excellent. I have never had a game make me feel in tune with the character as much as this one.
Look, the story was great. I loved it. But the ending... Im not going to say it was bad, but it wasnt the thing I expected. I mean I was waiting for something special, but it did not happen.
SPOILERS---> I expected a goddamn plot twist to happen like Delilah being part of the cospiration and working with Ned to hide it out, at the beginning I thought she murdered both of them by burning the house that looks like and old firewatch tower ( I bet it actually is) like she was a pedophile and had a thing with Brian ( when I found the Backpack she said something that made it clear to me) or some dark shit and Ned discovered it and bla bla, you know, and I thought it was strange that Delilah doesn't awnser u when u ask about that burned place... Strange... Once I found Brian's bodies I thought Ned and her were working together... But no... Nothing happened... Kind of meh to me... Completly destroyed the "conspiration" atmosphere the game was taking... And when ( at the beginning) she is talking with someone and says things like he cannot know about that and then she deny it??? Like what the hell... Whatever, great game, I would play it again... Sorry about my english, Im learning
This is a great game it was such a fun relief from all of those shooting games, I actually played through it in one sitting because you get so immersed into the story
+Michael Olayos IKR but microsoft has been dicks to indie developers so they have kind of alienated themselves from the indie market. Makes me sad because i love indie games

You wanna talk with people that liked it? Fine. Go talk with people that liked it then. Just don't get your panties in a bunch when people disagree with you, because hey, welcome to the internet.
it reminded me of Soma a little too. Soma and this game have been the 2 best character driven games ive played in the last few years. i loved firewatch. completely immersed in the world.
To me the radio is annoying. I'll hold shift and read the various replies I can make but sometimes, by the time I'm ready to choose, the replies all cancel out without giving you another shot at replying to Delila. Also if she begins to talk while I'm choosing replies, they also cancel out. Just really bugged me. I didn't do it wrong either.
Game is beautiful and immersive but is essentially a walking sim and your decisions don't affect the story (not even in the way that the decisions in a telltale game affect the story for at least 5 mins before reverting back to the main plot). The plot twist is not really one and just a let down. And the game is only 2 hrs long. Would be nice if this was an open world..
Don't you get it? EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE was expecting a big bad monsterfight plot twist with Delilah plotting to kill Henry EVERYONE its the most tired obnoxious thing they could have ever done to the plot..
You two are idiots, this is simply good story telling of how people live in the real world it sets you off to fly into space with conspiracies then grounds you by the finale. It's am amazing story
This game has left a hole in my heart. I've been searching desperately ever since for a game that would give me the same experience as Firewatch, and I'm coming up empty handed. I will play anything these people put out from now on. Never been a loyal fan of anything until now.

SPOLIER ALERT AHEAD: Played the game and enjoyed it but the story was underwhelming. Some crazy guy who didn't want people to know his son died by accident? Weak shit.
Just played it for the first time since it came out and I am amazed! - great story - great wrtiting - deep characters - sensitive topics, approached beautifully and bittersweet while avoiding to get cheesy - beleavable but mysterious while never going over the top - no super natural things involved - great arches in every regard (be it the story or the characters themselves) - art style aged very well and graphics don't feel outdated after 7 years - free from p0l1t1c4l views, p4rt1s4n 0p1n10ns and 1d30l0gy (I include and c3ns0r this here for a very good reason) - no gunf1ght, no c0mb4t, no riddles - intelligent freedom of choice that influences the story path I loved it and replayed it several times. Well worth the money!
I have played through this entire game, and I gotta say...I want my money back. Watch this and a couple more videos on CZcams and you get the whole game. Seriously. Like a bad movie, the game previews give you the whole story minus the anti-climactic and unsatisfying ending. I completed it in 3 hours, and other people on Steam claimed to have finished it in even less. It's basically a demo game that could have been really epic, but it feels like Campo Santo just wanted to cash in on a good idea without trying too hard. In it's current state, at nearly $20, this game is an absolute ripoff. Don't get me wrong, the visuals are stunning and the dialogue is excellent, but that's really it. The choices you make in the game have no effect on the outcome and the story ends abruptly with lots of loose ends. The game builds up the mystery only to leave you saying "That's it?!" at the end. There isn't some conspiracy and you don't get the girl. There's absolutely no replay value, as you can't just wander the game world and play around or do mini quests. Once the main story is over, the game is useless. I now have a $20 game in my library that I have no intention of ever playing again. Spend your money elsewhere.
+Randall Woody It felt totally unfinished. Like it had the foundations of a good game.... but then they just got lazy and stopped at the foundation level and never actually built the awesome game it could've been. When there aren't any walking/hiking/footstep sounds in a "walking simulator," you know you're off to a pretty bad start. I wish I had waited a few days before buying this game. Stupid IGN 9.3 review. LIAR!
Amamalian Yup. It had the potential to be GOTY, but it really just fell flat. I can imagine a ton of ways to make this game so much better, so I find it hard to believe no one at Campo Santo could think of a better game than this. It has to be related to time, effort, money/budget, or perhaps all of the above.
I think the coolest part about the New Deal art style is that the Civilian Conservation Corps was a New Deal program and they built a ton of fire lookouts out west
Played it today.. Its was awesome!!! really unique. Short, I did beat it. I want to see more of what these guys are going to do. It gave me goose bumps a lot.
+m9gam But isn't battlefield a more multiplayer oriented game, you can't compare a shooter with a story-drive game... A lot of the money that went into the development of this game was used for the creation of a compelling story that is well-executed at all moments and the graphics.
Bought this yesterday, and in that time it became my favorite game. The art style is breath taking and the story itself could contend with a big budget Hollywood film.
I got this game and was so hooked on it. Just like I'm sure everyone else did, I played it all in one sitting, it was great. I'm just sad I beat it. I hope they make a part two.

The opening also wet my eyes a little. I haven't finished this game yet but this review definitely conveys how I felt with around my first hour into playing the game.
Just finished it. So much fun. Wish there was more games like this.
Ik I'm just some stranger on the internet but I suggest you check out "in other waters" and "citizen sleeper" both have incredible story's that made me sit there and think. So it's up to you but if you like Subnautica or space check em out
3 years late and it's still an amazing game. Lol I've already played through it 5 times and am liking it more and more. Love ya Campo Santo!
Just finished playing the first time. Notice any minor or major plot points from different choices? I may play again
I played this game in one sitting, 10/10 got me caught up in the story
Absolutely loved that review cause you explain everything I experienced with this game and if they can fix the frame rate problem I would definitely give this game a 9.5/10
I felt the exact same way with that intro story. I was immediately invested in this game, emotionally.
i played the game without watching other videos or get information about the game. I experienced the game for my self, it was a really good looking game with a great story
and it was cheap.
Hey, did anyone try to get up closer to the skinning dipping girls? lol
Learning2Smile super super super late comment but the girls are just blacked out silhouettes
The Yellow Cursor an even later comment!! But there was a guy on github who made a noclip mod for this game and I downloaded it and it’s pretty disappointing really because they’re untextured, but If you want to see his perspective just search “Firewatch Noclip”
When I clicked this I didn't look at the age I'm just interested in the game and instantly was like whoa this sounds different it's cool to see how far they've come
I clicked this because the games on sale and thought the same. I'm like whoa. Falcon sounds so different.
Before i buy a new game i always check out if it is on Before You Buy. You guys are doing a really. REALLY good job. Keep it up! You guys are awsome.
ahaha and someone I know got unravel instead of this... what the fuck?
+molag bal Jake is actually doing a BYB for Unravel that you should come back in a few hours for, he always has good perspective as well.
gameranx omg senpais buddies noticed me :3 love the work you guys do... I shall be watching it, to me though, regardless how good unravel is its another damn indie platformer, and when I owned a ps4 with psn plus I got given like 3 a month, for around 11 months... So its a genre that's not only dead to me, but physically repulses me! Where as fitewatch looms awsome... Although I have no way of playing it :( anyway, much love to you guys, who do all the behind the scenes work! P.s you bringing back the community highlights anytime soon? I habegood clips and really would like a ps4 lol
someones too poor to afford both? wtf
+random man 14 don't be the guy who pretends to be rich on the internet... no ones impressed that you have like 30 bucks. I can afford both but not everybody can, because you know, I work for a living and pay rent and stuff, mummy and daddy don't buy my games anymore. seriously what a stupid comment, I guess there always one.
+molag bal I feel like only americans come around with these sentences "Can't you afford xxx?"
If you are here from 2024 like
Your video def sold me on wanting to play this game , I love all types of games , and especially games that do things differently and I’m fine with just a narrative driven story and the art style seems immersive and appealing to me as well , I will def give this game a try and thanks for convincing me ! Great job 🙌
been stoked about this game for about 5 months and purchased it on steam a week before it came out for $17 bucks (was so hyped I was prepared to pay twice that) and I can honestly say it was everything I had hoped. played it in two sittings (4 hours total) and I can only imagine how much better one sitting would be.
I want this :3 also makes me excited for the long darks story mode.
That camp was for tracking bears
Mr44andMore Really? that makes sense. Still very disappointing though. I'll probably end up picking it up for a replay a couple months from now when i forget about it. Though i do got to say it's quite suspicious that the story is ends up being just above the refund timer by about 20 - 40 minutes if mildy rushed. idk might just be me
It is still 20 bucks. I just bought it😂
I love your voice so much Falcon
I've played through the entire game and it is absolutely amazing
jeffrewson it’s alright
Bought the game and already finished...
Yet I’m watching this anyway
Just played this game for the first time 3/29/22. Amazing game that makes me want more. I needed to stop and do other things but I was way too into this game and ended up finishing in one sitting. Wish there were more like it
This is my favorite game I've ever played for some reason, and I've been playing video games since like 2000
Can you do a "Before You Buy" on Unravel?
I'm not sure if i should get it or not.
Coming up in a couple hours
I agree, I almost bought but, but then I just didn't because I'm just not sure... I am going to get this one though. Looks beautiful, and I will check back in once I've played it.
It's a good game you should pick it up it's only $20
Unravel SUCKS. It's not a goddam video game, it's an "art piece". You basically just move around in a goddam art piece. Beautiful? Who cares? IT'S NOT A GAME. Just like "Flowers", omg did that shit suck.
should i sell my xbox one where all of my friends are, and buy a ps4 where non of my friends are?
+NerdyNinja Sell the xbox, sell the tv. Build a PC.
yeah
keep the xbox, it's twice as fun with your friends
Buy a ps4 and eat you'r friends.
+Pie Empire No, keep the TV as the monitor.
Just discovered this game and it looks amazing, I will try it for sure! Thank you for the review!
Spoiler Alert:
I personally loved this game.
Should have put the walkie talkie in the thumbnail instead
I just started playing and completed day 1. Love every second of it.
Look, the story was great. I loved it. But the ending... Im not going to say it was bad, but it wasnt the thing I expected. I mean I was waiting for something special, but it did not happen.
James Ranco Same! I wish there was a lot more to then ending
my feelings exactly
SPOILERS--->
I expected a goddamn plot twist to happen like Delilah being part of the cospiration and working with Ned to hide it out, at the beginning I thought she murdered both of them by burning the house that looks like and old firewatch tower ( I bet it actually is) like she was a pedophile and had a thing with Brian ( when I found the Backpack she said something that made it clear to me) or some dark shit and Ned discovered it and bla bla, you know, and I thought it was strange that Delilah doesn't awnser u when u ask about that burned place...
Darei Your idea about the plot twist is actually amazing.
James Ranco Thank you!!
The framerate is very stable on PC
finished it in one day and already playing through it again. so good.
This is a great game it was such a fun relief from all of those shooting games, I actually played through it in one sitting because you get so immersed into the story
I wish xb1 made more games like this... They are making some that look good, but ps4 seems to get me with exclusives
Xbone is shitty titty
+Bigg B idc bout the console drama i like what my friends are on i dont hate either one
+Bigg B halo 5
+Bigg B Life starts by a boner, bro
+Michael Olayos IKR but microsoft has been dicks to indie developers so they have kind of alienated themselves from the indie market. Makes me sad because i love indie games
Anyone else play this and well... feel kinda disappointed by the ending?
The ending isn't disappointing it just takes u back to the reality .
I wished we saw Delilah
Olly Moss, man. His art is amazing and it works so well in a game.
Loved this game! Can't wait for more releases from this studio.
It's 2016. Upload in 1080P.
No, you weeaboo slanty eye
+Bigg B How is he an Asian weeaboo for asking to make it in 1080P?

well i was going to buy it but not anymore thanks to Sean and his tweets
FALCON !
Do a face reveal !!! :P
I've just finished this on the pc, i really enjoyed it. Was a nice change. I had a solid 60 fps on ultra settings on pc and played really well. Not the longest game but i think it was the right length for what it was.
Such a good game! Its so hard for me these days to stick to a game and finish it without getting bored and this game did not do that! Awesome 100/10
should I buy this game for $8 on PS4?
Petros K yes
Ohhh fuck , the ending hit me hard , you should really buy it !
+Dan M. Hit you hard? It was a pretty boring and expected ending IMO. Not worth the money.
Randall Woody It's my opinion , I was sad not about the kid , fuck him , it was Delilah and the stuff that is gonna happen after ;(
The ending was terrible
+Mike Tate Why do you come here and say this ? I'm not gonna change what I think , I wanna talk with ppl that liked it
Dan M. Welcome to the internet. You are free to express your opinions. No one can stop you from doing so. In that regard, welcome to the internet again...where I am free to express my own opinions as well. Don't like it? Too bad. In this place, you can't tell anyone else what they can or can't do. You wanna talk with people that liked it? Fine. Go talk with people that liked it then. Just don't get your panties in a bunch when people disagree with you, because hey, welcome to the internet.
Absolutely loved this game. I finished several hours ago and I like...miss it.
it reminded me of Soma a little too.
This was really helpful! Looking forward to playing
to make a long story short it's an amazing game with amazing dialogue and a gripping story
Xbox or Ps4 like for ps and comment Xbox
Both
Xbox ps:(I don't care who hates on me lets all be friends there basically the same with a few differences but the major one for me is the controller)
+British killer ur a good person but some fanboys are gonna be pissed
Ps4 because you are far away from microshit
+Mongocom the people who made your computer
The story to this game was do incredibly anticlimactic. i was so hooked the whole game but the story just ended so bland to me
I was just about to buy it, then I saw this and it made me want it even more!
This game has left a hole in my heart. I've been searching desperately ever since for a game that would give me the same experience as Firewatch, and I'm coming up empty handed. I will play anything these people put out from now on. Never been a loyal fan of anything until now.
Hellblade, I came from Hellblade trying to find similar game with the same feeling. Hope we can help each other.
i didnt like it. got a refund.
lol
lol

+jatwood1997 leedle
i bought this game middle of the night and finished it 4 in the morning, it was soo good so i coudn't stop play it!
Just bought for PS4 July 18th, 2016. Sooooo excited to set aside an evening and turn off all contact, turn down lights, turn up surround sound and play Firewatch.
don't buy the game, just watch the gameplay and save your money.
+chief “sosa” pepe I totally agree!
Amamalian is that your dog?
+chief “sosa” pepe Yeah, but unfortunately we had to put him down last October due to bone cancer. :( He was one of the best dogs ever!
+Fredson. Thanks, I'm alright, he was gettin' old, and it was just his time. I feel like he had a good life though, we went hiking and backpacking more times than I can count :) He loved being outside. I still have my other dog to go hiking with, thankfully.
Amamalian R.I.P dog
SPOLIER ALERT AHEAD:
Played the game and enjoyed it but the story was underwhelming. Some crazy guy who didn't want people to know his son died by accident? Weak shit.
I like Gameranx's narrator's voice. Very engaging. He reminds me of a buddy of mine in school.
Just played it for the first time since it came out and I am amazed!
- great story
- great wrtiting
- deep characters
- sensitive topics, approached beautifully and bittersweet while avoiding to get cheesy
- beleavable but mysterious while never going over the top
- no super natural things involved
- great arches in every regard (be it the story or the characters themselves)
- art style aged very well and graphics don't feel outdated after 7 years
- free from p0l1t1c4l views, p4rt1s4n 0p1n10ns and 1d30l0gy (I include and c3ns0r this here for a very good reason)
- no gunf1ght, no c0mb4t, no riddles
- intelligent freedom of choice that influences the story path
I loved it and replayed it several times.
+Randall Woody I agree. I didn't like the game at all. Like you said, anti-climactic.
+Randall Woody completely agree
I agree completely
It's a 90 minute game
It's $20 and still has more valued content than Star Wars Battlefront
Been playing for 3 hours now so not rly
+Terror Owl how about yes?
+Terror Owl joe wilson is right
+Sheep_Gaming so what? it looks like a healthy change of pace from now a-days exhausted shooters.
Shouldn't have bought this. Story lacks...around 70% of the game. BEWARE.
And isn't it only like 4 hours?
+iNecroGaming And isn't it only like 20 dollars?
+TheMinecraftRepublic
Well, I can get battlefield 4 for 10 so...
+m9gam But isn't battlefield a more multiplayer oriented game, you can't compare a shooter with a story-drive game... A lot of the money that went into the development of this game was used for the creation of a compelling story that is well-executed at all moments and the graphics.
TheMinecraftRepublic That wasn't my point. The point is that for 10 dollars, you can get a game worth hundreds of hours.
By far the Best game I've ever experienced. Hope they come out with a part two 😁️
I was definitely considering to buy this game, thanks for the help!
I absolutely loved this game... One of the best games I've ever played.
I'm so bloody keen to dive into the gorgeous world that is Firewatch!!!
Bought this yesterday, and in that time it became my favorite game. The art style is breath taking and the story itself could contend with a big budget Hollywood film.
Austin Gomm yeah it's awesome man but when you finish you have to wait until you forgot everything to play again.
I got this game and was so hooked on it. Just like I'm sure everyone else did, I played it all in one sitting, it was great. I'm just sad I beat it. I hope they make a part two.
Just finished it and really liked it. will be my indie game of the year for sure
