  • After living in this Jeep for month increments on the road (and off the road) this past 2 years, I've built up what I think is a good intermediate overlanding rig. It's got plenty of DIY aspects that you can implement and overall I've tried to keep it simple. But maybe I'll add a shower, who's to say??

    Awesome, I got a similar rooftop-tent (mine is from Wildland, the Bush Cruiser)!!

    Great Jeep tour, very utilitarian. I def need to learn to edit what I bring. lol. I feel like I bring way too much in my rig. I love the headliner ideas and the MorRyde kitchen slide as my friend tried to “slide my fridge” out but I don’t’ have the fridge on a slide! lol. My favorite thing I bring is the Devos Light Ranger really makes a difference lighting up my campsite and I currently use the orange shade which helps block out bugs. It really works.

      Thanks! Yes everything has a purpose haha. The slider is my favorite! I have to check out that Devos light ranger, sounds really useful

      Thank you for the update! I am just doing the rear most section of the platform, As I have grandkids that like to ride along too.

      I have not bought any of the materials or the trail kitchen as of yet.... I am currently restoring/ modifying a 1/4 ton military trailer to pull behind my Jeep. I am installing a tonneau cover, from a pickup truck, on the trailer for keeping cargo dry and secure.

    Love your build Matt and I am currently doing something similar in my Rubicon. Do you happen to know what size blackout shade that you used for your build? I never thought of that but it is a fantastic idea!

      Thank you! I want to say I got 52" W x 72" H. Just added it to the description though of the exact one. Good luck with your Rubicon build!

    What's your must-have piece of camping or overlanding gear?

    • @josephavery4677
      @josephavery4677 Před 8 měsíci

      My Warn 10000 pound winch.... I have not used it to recover myself.... I have recovered others less fortunate.

      Temperature control or the bed. I love my ecoflow wave 2 but it does need extra power to last but i do enjoy my camp cot with 0 degrees bag or a memory foam air mattress with 0 degree bag.

    Thanks for the tour Matt. My favorite addition to my bus has been the solar (which I had dragged my feet on for 2 years). I haven't needed to use the dc-dc charger since I installed 200w of solar this past Spring. 200ah and 200w seem to be enough for us for our weekend trips. I wish I did it sooner.
    What are you using for heat?

    • @mattzefi
      @mattzefi  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thanks for watching! Those solar panels make a huge difference, right? I've been really enjoying mine too.
      I've primarily been using my -20 sleeping bag in colder months and sometimes I'll strike on the Buddy heater to get out of said sleeping bag lol. Planning to do even colder camping this winter, so I'll be exploring some other options for sure.

      @@mattzefi I have a chinese diesel heater and really like it. My only complaint is the ticking noise from the pump which I have mounted under the bus right under my sleeping area. Even in a plastic case stuffed with rockwool I can still hear it. If I were to do it again I would probably purchase a portable set up and just pipe the heat inside the bus like a lot of overlanders w rooftop tents do. That way it would free up some floorspace and I could set the unit down at the other end of the bus.

    • @mattzefi
      @mattzefi  Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@buscampers wow, cant believe it’s that persistent even through the case and rockwool. Let me know if you end up getting a portable one in the future. Definitely considering going the diesel heater route, although I’m constantly hearing mixed reviews lol
