  • Selfoss, Iceland. As seen from Drone. DJI Aur 2S. 40 K. 50 frames per second. July 2, 2022. Selfoss is a town of about 6,512 people in South Iceland, by the banks of the river Olfusá, one of the largest rivers in the country. The town is a centre of commerce, farming, horticulture and small industries in South Iceland. Located 50 kilometres (31 miles) from Reykjavík, it is the largest town outside of the capital area in the southwest. It sits on the Ring Road that encircles the country, and is one of the last stops en route to the South Coast. The name is Selfoss is somewhat of an anomaly. The word ‘foss’ in Icelandic means ‘falls’, therefore place names such as Gullfoss, Goðafoss and Svartifoss all refer to waterfalls; there is even a waterfall in the north also called Selfoss. In the town, however, the river is flat, and no one is quite sure why it is named such.

What a treasure this city is! Loved all the trees along the streets and the swimming pool. The color of the water is breath-taking! All these Icelandic cities look so peaceful and so clean!

I remember Selfos from my visit in 2018, that roundabout with the long queue of traffic, it needs a by-pass so that ring road traffic can avoid the congestion! The video shows it to be a lovely place to be, you do love your outdoor swimming pools, hope to visit again one day.

Exactly, they really need this. This bridge and main road is always congested.

As the saying goes, "you learn something new every day" - It never occurred to me there would be outdoor/open air swimming pools in Iceland...Now I know!

Amazing footage. It's fanscinating how they are building a new downtown in old traditional style. The other phases still need to be build, with a cathedral as well. They really need a second bridge to get more traffic from the main road. There's always traffic jams.

A beautiful little town. What was the tower in the initial frames; tall and skinny, grey building. Wishing you and your dear lady a blessed week, gentle weather and restful evenings. Peace brother
