- Buying Cheap aftermarket Chainsaw parts has its Pitfalls, usually have to modify or fiddle with them to make them work, not always but seems like 75% of the time. I feel like it's OK for Periferral things but not so much internal parts...working on this Stihl 036 trying to get er done!

It really depends on what part you really need! I think that's for flip caps lol!
Thanks Chad!😉
I am a minimalist, I like to buy complete OEM saws and do minimal work to them.
I hear that Brother!
Gas cap is for sure the “modern” Stihl flip-up gas cap
So I'm told....lol
Flippy caps for the fuel and bottom hole on spike is for the roller you need.
Appreciate you!
Nice seeing you back at it Dan. I’m thinking if we stop buying it they’ll stop making it👍
Thanks Robbie! I'm getting back into my Groove!
Thanks Dan! Happy Halloween!🎃
Same to you!😉
Cheap parts, cheap quality. So far, I had only good experiences with AF parts (cheap Chinese parts). Now and then I have to modify something, but I like to thinker with that stuff. A two months ago I was repairing a broken 034 - stripped out bar stud was the first visible broken part, but how I dug deeper I kept finding more and more: hole in impulse line and intake, no gasket behind the carb, no heat shield before the muffler and broken muffler in the lower right corner. Then scored piston and cylinder. And the guy said "it runs". Upgraded it to 036 with ebay parts, welded the muffler. Now it does run.
Nice! That's the key...We like to tinker...make it work!
Bottom hole on the dog is for a roller chain catcher, they should have to include them, but they don’t.
Tour tank is the 1/4 turn new style flippy cap.
The muffler should have a spark screen to be legal…must be a noker kit saw now!
Thanks Brother! I appreciate you 😁
Fuel tank is for the new stule flip caps, buckin spike are west coast style bottom hole is for the chain catch roller. We habe thick bark and need bigger spikes.
Thank you Sir!
I was looking at one of those rear handle kits with the tank for an 026 that caught fire. I'll make sure to get one that includes the cap!*
Good call Sir! 😁
This information is very relevant to my interests, and I thank you for sharing it with me.
😉
Oh I hear ya Dan on the aftermarket parts 💯👍. Frustrating but at the same time it gives a good chuckle an head scratching moment as you shown in the vid lol! Thanks for sharing this one 🔥💯👍. Andrew from NB :)
It's all fun, you can make the stuff work most of the time...lol
Nice to see you getting back at it .
You know it Brother! Gettin my groove back!
I've done AM vs oem carb comparison that being said some stuff I would ish run and some stuff not carbs aren't one. For dogs the bottom holes are for a chain catcher, and cap issue is a flippy cap
Thanks Chippy! I need the Flippy!
That handle is for a Stihl ms360 which also fits an o36 but it uses the flip cap. I have used that tank
Thanks Brother, im learnin 😉
Those spikes look cool and I did hang a pair on an 032 that I fixed up but they seem to be about as practical as putting a set of Hooker Super Comps on a 305 1989 Impala.
Never really understood the massive West Coast Log Dogs. Not really good for anything but Old Tree Logging and I thought they were now mostly protected.
I know right!🤣
Oh we still get plenty to cut up, we cut a old growth log the other day on firewood permit. We counted the rings we came up with around 250.
That tank is probably made for the stupid 1/4 turn twist cap. Try one and it’s probably correct, best guess.
You are correct Sir!
I have had bad luck with aftermarket carbs.
I'll second this one bro. I've had a couple carbs now where the "tune" is crap and a billionth of a turn means the difference of a 1/4 turn or more compared to an OEM. I kinda have the harbor freight rule on china parts. If its a part that doesn't move like a muffler, bar, handle etc... Okay I'll gamble on it and tweak as necessary. Anything functional like a clutch, carb, top end etc. I'll do the buy once, cry once rule.and pay for the OEM as long as it's cost effective. In the end I want to pick up my saw/trimmer/blower pull the cord and know I'm good to go. When it's time to work it's time to work.
Yeah, me too😁
Those bucking spikes are west coast style and they are supposed to be like they are. Those are made CORRECTLY.
Ahh, I see😁
I feel your pain. The last two "cheap" carb kits I ordered were either missing parts or the wrong kit altogether. Going OEM or made in USA from now on...
Question, did you order by the actual Carburetor model number or just the general Saw information? Also, I don't believe there are many, if any, Chainsaw Carburetor kit manufacturers in the US.
The Major Chainsaw Sellers - Assemble Chainsaws in America from Globally sourced parts. i.e. a mix of US and other countries parts to produce finished products.
I ordered the kits for the exact carb/saw I was working on, per the seller (Amazon). I just bought four kits from Walbro last week. Walbro is located in Tucson, AZ. I've had no issues dealing with them directly. That said, their kits are more than double the price of those bought on Amazon. You get what you pay for. Really, I should have known better.
@@EightWheelsRollin Yes Walbro is headquartered in the US/Arizona and they employ a lot of people, mostly off shore. "The company has ISO certified manufacturing and engineering facilities in the United States, Japan, Mexico, Thailand and China"
Just keeping things real.
Happy cutting!
Okay. I'm not sure where you're going with this? You asked questions, I answered. Personally, I'm ordering from Walbro in an effort to minimize my risk of getting a carb kit that won't work for me. Nothing more nothing less.
@@EightWheelsRollin Fair enough, Walbro is Top notch.
Just pointing out the fallacy of Made in the USA. I'm 100% for buying American, when possible, but Made in America no longer means what it did when I was young. Most manufactures disguise their need to cut cost by touting - Built in the USA, etc.
I've about had my fill of dealers pushing out junk parts through Amazon myself. I usually look for oem replacement vendors.
Keep'um sharp and happy cutting.
The Bottom Hole In The Bucking Spike Is For a Chain Catcher Those Look Like There For an MS-461 Magnum 😩😩😩
Thanks man! I'm gonna make it work!
@@KainKustomGarage I’ve Got an MS-461 Magnum Bar Cover With Captive Bar Nuts The Bucking Spike and The Chain Catcher With Roller If It Will Work Original Stihl 😀😎
I buy cheep fuel line and carb kits and crank seals from the internet. I just made a really good buy on a pile of older chainsaws at a auction saturday. got to do some research before I make a video of them.
What, more Chainsaws? Why do you need all those?🤣🤣
Muffler is probably for a ms380 clone, in general I've had good luck with Chinese parts, but it is a gamble.. Get a oem flip cap, Chinese flip caps suck
Got it Sir! Thank you😁
Ms360 fuel cap is what ya need
Yessir! On its way😉
I have had some bad luck with aftermarket Stihl and Husqvarna stuff as well. Most of the aftermarket carbs are ok but body parts and even air filters have fitment issues. 😢
Gotta be a tinkerer for sure🙄
Looks like others already pointed out the flip gas tank cap being needed
Yessir! Appreciate you 😉
Hey buddy, thats the newer type fuel cap..👍🤙🏽
Mahalo Dani! Got one on its way!😉🤙🤘🤘
@@KainKustomGarage no problem Dan,I like the older style screw on one's better...ALOHA my friend...👍🤙🏽
Nothing like re engineering your saw
🙄
Hi dude! What do you think of Saegenspezi by the way?
Hey Brother! Seems good do far😁
its a risk for sure, maybe order a farmteck gas cap
Fun fun 😖
I personally try to stay away from aftermarket cheap as not only it's a struggle to put together the saw but will devalue it and in perspective of sale it's seen as cheap clone.
Ahh, good point🤔
Is there a way I can pay you to restore my grandpa's chainsaw
Man i wish I had the time, but I'm so backed up as it is....thanks for considering me😊
