Mike is a great bassist. He may not be the most showy player but he plays exactly what the song needs and adds little bits here and there that just compliment it. Amazingly solid
This bassline in particular makes you forget how repetitive it is, because as soon as the little lick is done, your brain craves it again. It's like chain smoking bass lines :) It's kinda like the axe in Know Your Enemy.
@@chiefkenwab9897 Whether someone likes Green Day's music or not there's no denying that they're great live performers. I'd say they're about on-par with Face To Face, although I've never seen either one live. That's a compliment, because Scott Shiflett is a truly great musician & showman.
+Gaenico it's difficult for me to decide. I like pre American idiot because it's a lot more "tuney" especially warning. Dookie is really grungy and reminds me of nirvana kinda. Then American idiot kinda goes back to Dookie being grungy, but a lot more pop punk which I like. I like that style a lot but Idk they switched around their music style so much it's hard for me to decide.
Aside from this song and Minority, it took me 16 years to start liking the album Warning. haha. I'm just starting to come around to American Idiot and even 21st Century now.
+Elia Lopez Incredibly upbeat bass line, simple lick and yet so melodic... I've watched this vid far too many times to follow it all the way through much anymore, I just load it up and skip right to the bass solo :)

jeroliver awesome! Yeah they’re the best live band by far in my opinion. I need to see them live. Billy always ends with time of your life at every concert I hear
I listened to this song for the first time when I was on a cruise in Mexico I was going for a walk and the song was so good that I didn't even look out at the pretty dolphins and fish around there. XD

This band writes the best lyrics ever. Catchy, meaningful, and poetic. Billie Joe you are my musical hero and inspiration to make and write music on guitar and also write my own lyrics.
damn that tone killer not just Mike's but Billie's too. I don't what the settings/set up was back then but they need to go back to it. More recently imo the mids are to low in the guitar mix.
I think the opposite. The mids are way more prominent nowadays. Back here, I saw screenshots of the American Idiot/Warning era settings for the Marshalls, he had them around 4, now its about 6, as of the 2013 tour, no idea of 2016 though. It might be because back here Billie's way cranked in the mix cause he's the only guitar.
i wish i could've been there all the times these 3 were hanging out, Al Sobrante/John Kiffmeyer too. green day forever, no matter what. i hope they never split up, i will always be listening to them

I absolutely love this performance, Castaway is such a fantastic song. As well as the rest of Warning, the album as a whole is incredibly underrated.

I can't say that, how much I love @GreenDay ♥
mike on dat bass O.O
I'm on a playlist and Having A Blast is next c;
its gradually becoming my favourite album now, mainly because of this song
I'm on a sentimental journey
Into sight and sound
Of no return and no looking back or down
A conscientious objector to the
War that's in my mind
Leaving in the lurch and I'm
Taking back what's mine
I'm on a mission
Into destination unknown
An expedition
Onto desolation road
(where I'm a...)
Castaway-going at it alone
Castaway-now I'm on my own
Castaway-going at it alone
Castaway-now I'm on my own
Lost and found, trouble bound,
Castaway
I'm riding on the night train and
Driving stolen cars
Testing my nerves out on the blvd.
Spontaneous combustion in the
Corners of my mind
Leaving in the lurch
And I'm taking back what's mine
I'm on a mission
Into destination unknown
An expedition
Onto desolation road
(where I'm a...)
Castaway-going at it alone
Castaway-now I'm on my own
Castaway-going at it alone
Castaway-now I'm on my own
Lost and found, trouble bound,
Castaway
