If someones too hip for Journey... someone needs to send in a rescue team because they clearly disappeared up their own ass.

Journey’s classic lineups are sone if the best players to ever be on the radio, and for me, not knowing Steve Perry (lead singer) is like not knowing Freddie Mercury.
The lead guitarist, Neal Schon was a prodigy who was asked to join both Santana and Derek and the Dominoes while he was still in high school. He chose Santana and recorded two albums with them Columbia Records decided to build a band around him and Santana keyboardist/vocalist Gregf Rollie. Ross Valory who had played fir Frumious Bandersnatch and the Steve Miller band became the bassist, Aynsley Dunbar on drums. In 1977, singer Steve Perry was recruited to help bolster record sales (they had been playing ptog rock that had a huge following but didn’t translate into sales). The addition of Perry brought soul and pop elements, and incredible vocals that paid off immediately. Their next album Infinity did well, and produced classics like “Lights” and “Wheel in the Sky,” and tge following album Evolution brought a new drummer, Steve Smith, who had a background in jazz and had also played for Montrose. The album gave them their first top twenty hit, “Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’.” 1980’ Departure gave us the classic “Any Way You Want It.” 1981’s Escape featured new keyboardist Jonathan Cain who teamed up with Steve Perry and Neal Schon to create a powerhouse songwriting team, and an album that has gone diamond. That album includes the mega-hits Open Arms and Who’s Crying Now, both of which charted higher than Don’t Stop Believin’ (also on Escape). The fourth single, Still They Ride, is gorgeous but barely snuck into the top 20. The next album, Frontiers, continued their success with Separate Ways (Worlds Apart), a rocker everyone knows in the US. If you haven’t heard it, you must! The beautiful ballads “Faithfully” and “Send Her My Love” are also here. Awesome tracjs to check out on this album also include “Edge of the Blade” “Troubled Child” and “Frontiers.” 1986’s Raised on Radio was also quite successful.
Now, what do I recommend you listen to next? The live in Houston 1981 recordinf of the song “Mother, Father.” It will blow you away.
