    Especially for your lower leg/ankle/foot!
After recovering from injuries I sustained in a moto crash a year ago, I switched to wearing the Gaerne SG12 Boots. Over the course of the last year of riding I've had multiple times out in the desert where this boot has saved my bacon, avoiding serious injury to my lower leg/foot.
    I'm a believer!
Even with the release of the SG22s, I'd still opt for another pair of SG12s. Spendy, I know. However, simply weigh the cost of the boot to how much it would cost you in medical care/recovery in the event of an injury sustained from wearing something with less protection.
    Stay safe out there friends!

We've all been there. I started with Gaerne Adventure boots until I broke my ankle on the WABDR. Since then I've stuck with SG-12's. Just wish I'd have seen a video like this 9 years ago.

And you got to the sole of the problem. 😁😁 Great information ...always buy the best you can afford and percentage wise, always put more into protection first, then bling after. Be safe out there. Garth

    Good comparison. Thanks for posting.
I'm an intermediate rider at best and pushing 60-year-old. When it came to gear, my thoughts were similar to yours. My gear ( Arai XD4, KLIM Carlsbad kit, and a pair of SG12 with the adv sole) cost me almost as much as I paid for my DR650. But it has saved my butt more than a few times. Every little bit helps prevent injured body parts😊 I don't bounce back like I used to. This body is getting brittle. I've always been told if you're able, buy the best gear you can.
I really enjoy the channel. Thanks for posting great content.

A hard foot box also helps reduce Lisfranc Injuries. That's where it twists the long bones in the foot. Most people never fully recover from a Lisfranc.

I'm so guilty of not wearing my SG-10's as often as I really should. The only time I deliberately make it a point to wear them is if I know I'll be riding some tight single-track or loose, rocky trails. I should really be better about just wearing them anytime I know I'm hitting dirt on the dual sport. Back when I bought my SG-10's, I did a ton of research on the widest MX boots and they kept coming up over any other brand or model for width. I really wanted the SG-12's at the time, but experienced folks online said the 10's were the widest, so I trusted them, since I have EE width feet. They are still a bit narrow for my feet, but they're tolerable as long as it's not multiple consecutive long days of technical riding. I haven't given them a full break-in either because I just don't do a lot of super technical riding by myself. Overall, I'm pleased with them though because I know there's no other boot that would even come close to fitting my foot other than the Gaerne's. I'll have to check out some more info on the 22's for the future, since I hadn't heard of them until this video!
The hardest part for me is that just like you, I have a set of ADV boots that I really freakin love! Mine are the Forma ADV Low's and they're so comfortable and perfect for regular gravel tracks and mountain dirt roads because I can easily get off the bike and do some hiking too. I certainly hope I never have to test their crush durability though. It's such a careful balance with gear, it almost always seems we're taking one risk or another omitting just one single item and hoping for the best. I'm right there with ya as far as ATGATT and I know I'm chancing it bigtime if I even just hop on one of the motorcycles quickly to ride through the neighborhood just to the grocery store without any gear. Overall, I'm extremely diligent about the concept and all I'm really missing is a good pair of riding jeans for the street and a good chest protector for the dirt... I guess I'm 90% of the way there on and off road 🤣
