MISSISSAUGA AFTER AMALGAMATION: A CITY EMERGES
Settlers began arriving in the early 1800s, and Toronto Township, now known as Mississauga is often referred to as the city of villages. While most cities expand outward from a central settlement, Mississauga is unique in that it’s made up of crossroad hamlets and villages, each with their own distinctive history, that were joined together in amalgamation to form the city. The names of many of these villages are etched on the ceiling of Council Chamber at the Civic Centre and some are found on road signs throughout the city. Beyond these small villages, Mississauga was largely farmland, up until the advent of the automobile and paved roads, which would become the catalyst for suburban development. Many affluent Torontonians looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, built summer homes on lakefront properties here and along the Credit River Valley in the early 20th century.

When I was a teenager in Mississauga in the 80s, you could still see cows in the fields adjacent to City Hall.

3:48 Oh, GOD, remember THAT monstrosity on Southdown Road at the QEW? What an awful experiment that was. Umpteen lanes all crisscrossing each other. There were accidents there practically every day! Thank heavens they finally regularized that interchange a while ago.

Mississauga being a "city of villages" isn't unique as all cities are collections of former rural villages that they swallowed up. Mississauga is just suburban so they stick out more, unlike those in Toronto, like Weston and Swansea which blend into the inner city. But even Mississauga has equivalent suburban "cities of villages" like Vaughan and Markham.

Hello Matt. Do you have photos or videos of Clarkson? I grew up there and I so want to see SHERWOOD CURLING rink sitting on the same land Sheridan Mall was (or is, but it’s changed now). My mom used to curl there and she brought me along. I was like 5! I know it became a Lansing Buildall and torn down to become a Boston pizza. Also, we spoke before and I used to work at 3215 Erindale Station Rd. And you told me that when you were 12, you used to ride your bike past there and watched Military VEHICLES go in and out. Well, we left there in Aug 2018 and it was closed down, but do you also have old photos (pre-Woodlands Secondary built after). I’d like to see the area 1965 to 1975 Probably? Do any exist?

When describing the architecture, difference between the day before the right moment and how a beautiful place like this one is t.v. show that schedule for a couple global events from Toronno ,making oversized headway for the pope of Vatican city ,attaching speeches drawn up from nowhere else than the special request towards Vatican museum, heading towards 2032,as Mississauga road to Mississauga point is same size as Milan Italy, while remain world leading if Milano cool.
