Dont get me wrong, catching fish is cool but I also think showing vids of when things aren't working is a great reminder to all of us that we can have the most up to date, most expensive, most exclusive gear and still not catch anything. That was a big time pro level blow up on that reel. That looked like one of those hooked-a-tree-limb on the back swing blow ups. It's amazing the size, or the small size of a fish that will hit a Whopper Plopper, I've even caught small Crappie on them, and when the bite is on, there is loads of fun to be had, Dink or not.
If I’d messed up my reel like that and had possibly broke my rod and had my lure get bit off like a pile, I’d probably sound like a sailor and depending on how long I’ve been there just left

I had a nice one on a popper last night that bent the hook out and six other bites but all of them came off. Finally had a bite on a whopper plopped 10 feet from shore. Scare the ever living crap out of me. Frustrating night but I still live it!!

Those birds nests when the bait snags the weeds behind you are absolutely the WORST. I've blown up two or three reels worth of line in the last year doing that. One of the joys of bank fishing. Totally agree about a lot of people not showing this kind of stuff though. Thanks for giving people a real version of fishing.
All of my baitcaster reels are left handed. I made the decision to use left handed ones just because I didn't see the advantage of changing hands to reel the reel. I fly fish, cast with right hand Spinning rod, cast with right hand, reel with the left hand. Why do a bait casting reel the opposite of the other 2. The other reason is not many people would pick up a left hand retrieve reel.

I'm certainly having the best season of fishing ever. I think most of it come from knowing more about when and where to fish, than how. Some of those days I just got really lucky right off the bat.
I did the exact same thing throwing a crank on my boat. Caught the frog rod which I had behind me hanging off the edge of the boat. Blew up the reel and got ended up getting skunked. Two days prior, I caught 25 LMBs. That’s fishing!
Thanks Debo for showing videbos where you mess up, and make mistakes. You kept going though. Just shows that hey everyone messes up keep going and you can still catch feesh.
Man I have days like that often. Got a wind knot on a spinning rig the other day that would have ensnared a 747. Like you said it’s all part of fishing. You were on the lake and catching something. That’s what’s important. Long as there’s still another next day to fish it’s all good 😎
It really is great to see you not be afraid to post the rough days. Could have very easily edited out the blow up or the break off. I do watch your channel for tips & advice and that positive & honest mentality is a big reason why. And 8 or so 1/2 pounders is better than a skunk any day. Thanks!
Switched back to 12 mono on my spincaster reel combo with Ugly Stick spin caster rod 6'6. Braid doesn't work for me on a spincaster reel. Using Lunkerhunt frog. Brown and Yellow with Chartreuse belly. Can cast really far with the spincast reel and rod combo. Try and keep that frog in the strike zone longer. Great video. Shawn
I love your upbeat attitude & it shines through in your videos. The thing is- it's fun to be out in nature on the water. Yeah it's more fun to catch a hawg than get skunked, but even at it's worst- it's an experience to embrace! I can't tell you how many awesome things I've seen while being on my kayak: Osprey catching a 2lb bass, a river otter, bald eagles fighting over a fish, a Merlin (falcon) murdering a bird right in front of my kayak, then eating it in a tree beside me (all the while staring at me like he's saying "this is my bird, back off dude") Cool stuff guys! I find a lot of rewards while practicing my favorite form of Social Distancing.

Hey, Debo's! Hiller's and I went fishing in the rain. With our Whopper Ploppers. He had the T 1000 and I had the I know it color. We tore them bass up! Probably caught 30 bass over 4 hrs. The Whopper Plopper is a great topwater. The only thing is if your line is frayed. You just lost a $14.00 bait. I know it happened to me! Really nice video for topwater fishing. Hillers is the topwater King! In INDIANA. Oh, Forgot to tell you those hooks are really sharp. Shawn

Lol Man Debo,I can relate with that bird's nest! It was my first chatterbait,maybe third cast,I just had a short strike so I get it out and hieved it out quick as possible. I catch the railing behind me,snap off the chatterbait,lose it in the water,and get the worst bird's nest ever!
Glad you're keeping it real (or... reel) and showing the grind. I've caught my lures on all sorts of things on my back cast, from as cheap as my own heel to as expensive as my tripod with my camera. Hope your rod is alright.
Always appreciate the videos from the less-than-stellar days, although I wouldn’t complain about that evening’s catch one bit. It’s been a real grind out here as the water heats up. Top layer temperatures are hovering around 80° where I fish in PA!
Alright Debo man I finally did it! I bit the bullet and went out and sold the jon boat to pick up the fishing Kayak haven't even gotten it on the water yet. I went with the Ascend 12t and I plan on doing a few mods especially putting a motor on it. I'll definitely get it on the water in the next day or two. Then I plan to throw a little money at it which it already had the seat mod when I purchased it.

Had the same issue with power pro years ago. Bought it new and a bunch of frogs to start the season. After the line snapping and losing 2 new frogs I took it off. Contacted customer service and they wanted me to ship it to them so they could test it and then send me a new spool. Shipping was $9.... the line was $15. I threw it all away and moved to KastKing braid and J-braid. Have not had an issue since.
You did better than me. Went out a few weeks ago and snagged my rod and threw it in the water to never be seen again. Went this weekend and caught nothing just to hot to early here in georgia
Stick with it Debo! I had a session just like this earlier this week. Broke a rod and then could only catch dinks on the Plopper. But right before heading in a 5lb 3oz slab destroyed the damn thing. New PB. Persistence pays off!

I was blessed to get 4 the other morning, 3 dinks, 1 chunk, today went out to the same pond and they didnt want to hit anything, I got a decent 2lber on a clear water squarebill in dirty water, the few days before they all hit the yellow squarebill XD its funny how picky they get! Just be blessed your pulling in enough to make a video, still editing the last for my channel! dinks are better than skunks my friend
Debo at least you caught fish...I have probably been freshwater-skunked the last 9 out of 10 outings. I got so discouraged that I went over to the beach (30 Minute drive) and tried to rebuild some type of confidence there...salty-dinks...then Tarpon, Tarpon, Tarpon (all hooked not landed), Barracuda (yes and tasty).......nothing in the past two weeks except 14 backlashes, and 5 lost lures!
Don’t feel to bad my new feesh’in friend. Ive tied a knot wrong, with fluorocarbon line, and pitched (free’d, let go…..) 2 whopper ploppers! But since then. No sir. I hate losing 14 bucks. Love the video tho! You get it done sir.

I used 20 pd Power Pro Moss green braid. Kept breaking knots. Went to 30 pd Suffix 832 moss green braid. Way better braid haven't busted a knot yet. The power pro swelled in size and beganed to lose it's strength. Shawn

I always wondered why Righties use right hand reel. The switching of hands doesn't make sense to me. I'm a lefty so I use a right hand reel so I can use my smarter thumb on the spool and have my dominant hand for hook setting. My dumb hand only needs to make circles.

Mama said there would be days like this! The other day I had a Bass flop out of the net into my kayak and caused a high stick break in my Mach 2 combo rod. Then I was weighing a fish and he flopped off the scale with my grippers still in his mouth. Sure hope he shakes them off. I could care less about the grippers.
I refuse to use spider wire. I've had way too many break offs. Tried all different kind of knots. Use sufix mostly. Trying the new Berkeley stuff now. And I have had my fair share of reel blow ups because I didn't mind what was behind me lol

Stick with it Debo! I had a session just like this earlier this week. Broke a rod and then could only catch dinks on the Plopper. But right before heading in a 5lb 3oz slab destroyed the damn thing. New PB. Persistence pays off!

@DEBO Bro I know the feeling of frustration, Colorado's altitude a mile high up from sea level, we got DINKS, at least your catching fish!!! with covid, and a crazy year, everyones fishing and putting pressure on everything, your lucky if you even catch 1 fish!!!! I was blessed to get 4 the other morning, 3 dinks, 1 chunk, today went out to the same pond and they didnt want to hit anything, I got a decent 2lber on a clear water squarebill in dirty water, the few days before they all hit the yellow squarebill XD its funny how picky they get! Just be blessed your pulling in enough to make a video, still editing the last for my channel! dinks are better than skunks my friend

Debo at least you caught fish...I have probably been freshwater-skunked the last 9 out of 10 outings. I got so discouraged that I went over to the beach (30 Minute drive) and tried to rebuild some type of confidence there...salty-dinks...then Tarpon, Tarpon, Tarpon (all hooked not landed), Barracuda (yes and tasty).......nothing in the past two weeks except 14 backlashes, and 5 lost lures!
We have to embrace the grind and keep moving forward! Can't catch em unless we're out there!
Debo and I have the same process...we categorize our catches by the level of dinkness of our catches on some nights.

I used 20 pd Power Pro Moss green braid. Kept breaking knots. Went to 30 pd Suffix 832 moss green braid. Way better braid haven't busted a knot yet. The power pro swelled in size and beganed to lose it's strength. Shawn

Love the videos Debo! I personally cant trust spider wire braid. I used too use it, but I had way to many break offs. My main line is always power pro now and ive never had it fail on me!

I've used spiderwire my whole fishing life and have had zero problems. Weird that 50lb snapped. I use a uni knot and sometimes a modified uni knot.
Carson Kirshner I used to fish spider wire for years. Recently switched to power pro. And I’m never looking back
Uni knot is bad. Palomar is better for braid. Uni knots are huge fail points. Especially if line to line tying.

I always wondered why Righties use right hand reel. The switching of hands doesn't make sense to me. I'm a lefty so I use a right hand reel so I can use my smarter thumb on the spool and have my dominant hand for hook setting. My dumb hand only needs to make circles.

Mama said there would be days like this! The other day I had a Bass flop out of the net into my kayak and caused a high stick break in my Mach 2 combo rod. Then I was weighing a fish and he flopped off the scale with my grippers still in his mouth. Sure hope he shakes them off. I could care less about the grippers.

I refuse to use spider wire. I've had way too many break offs. Tried all different kind of knots. Use sufix mostly. Trying the new Berkeley stuff now. And I have had my fair share of reel blow ups because I didn't mind what was behind me lol

I have that exact whopper plopper, same color. I think maybe I have casted it once. Just don’t hang with topwater long enough for them to work. Definitely a personality flaw 🤷🏻♂️
