Alejandro Garnacho has had a break-through season for Manchester United. At just 18 years old the winger has managed 12+ goal contributions across all competitions, seeing his stock rising at Old Trafford. However much of his playing time this season has been limited to appearances off the bench or in the League Cup.
But can Garnacho stake a claim to be Erik ten Hag's starting XI next season? Carl Anka joins us to take a deeper dive into the Argentine winger, and just what he needs to do to establish himself on the team sheet.

No, Garnacho works well as a spark. Sort of like the “sixth man” in basketball. Rashford and Antony work well as starters, but they need a proper centre forward.
Sancho needs to start playing to his transfer fee. His performances have largely been embarrassing in the years he has been on the team.
Why would Rashford improve with a proper foward he won’t pass him the ball at all if anything he works as the late spark
@@ragecandy It relieves pressure off Rashford to score tho, Rashford has the tendency to take stupid shots when the team is frustrated, hopefully with a proper 9 it'll make him more patient he'll also have more space and stuff
i disagree with you tho, Antony is awful, Amad coming soon to take his place. I honestly can't tell who is worse Antony or Sancho, but at least with sancho I feel like if we had a better 9 he could thrive,

Love me a bit of Carl in the morning! Nice video, it's like Carl says, Garnacho needs to beef up a little, and learn a couple of different ways of beating someone and he could do well. He's looked good this season, there's promise there.
Garnacho earned a lot of respect this season from United fans , he can clutch when you need it the most , he takes on defenders and makes things happen, he's been a breath of fresh air for me in this team, we must focus on his developement, he has everything to be a top player.
He should start the very next game given how incredibly potent our strikers have been this season 😂.
"Fred has ANOTHER attempt at shooting from outside of the box" really hit me hard as someone who starts every united game guessing the minute Fred has his token horrific shot from outside of the box.

When you play for a big club, you have to have the attitude as well as the talent, this is why Garnacho surprises me the lid has guts.

100%. He is quick, he is direct, he can finish decently well, he isn't too small, he gets up and carries on when kicked, not pass shy, doesn't get discouraged if something goes wrong and he reads the game well. He has a higher ceiling than Rashford does ino. Rashford either scores or does nothing. Even when Garnacho isn't scoring, he plays well.
Garnacho is an exciting player and I hope to see him continue to grow next season and in seasons to come.

There was something interesting I watched him do against I think West Ham earlier this season but after the world Cup where he would receive a pass with his back to goal, but instead of taking a touch, would knock the ball behind him and try to beat his man in a foot race. Wonder if that was his instructions or he decided to keep doing that himself.

Honestly, the 1 thing that is VASTLY more important than anything for United this summer is simply getting a decent striker. The biggest reason why they've relied so much on Rashford the whole season is that Weghorst and Martial are both terrible on the ball and also can't hit the ocean from the boat, so to speak. It's simple, really...when you don't have a decent target in the middle, the wingers are forced to create something out of nothing, which only Rashford has been able to do, this season at least. Bruno also hasn't had the best year, either, putting even more pressure on the wingers, and Antony still has a long way to go to break out of the mold of a "cut inside and shoot at the far corner" type of winger. Literally the only things that United have to take care of in the summer are 1) getting a striker and 2) getting at least 1 more quality mid to rotate with Eriksen. They do those things and, barring any terrible injuries or bad form, they'll be in the top 4 in the PL again and challenging in all comps. As for actually challenging for the PL or CL titles, I'd imagine they'll need at least 4-6 more WC players to have a decent shot at beating the likes of City, Madrid, Bayern, Liverpool, etc. Garnacho should continue to come off the bench at LW, allowing Sancho to go to RW and Rashford and/or the new striker to stay up top, and perhaps in another full season, he could look at being a long-term starter.

As a United fan. I am so sick of our forwards of just shooting the ball. Rashford, Bruno and Antony, the game has evolved. I am so sick of this, because we are really bad at it and we don’t create enough chances in the final third to increase our chances of scoring goals. Among the top teams in the league we have over the years had really bad scoring records. As excited as l am for Garnacho l just don’t want another rashford whom just runs at players and then shoots. The news of a new striker doesn’t even fill me with much assurance because we just don’t create the opportunities for a striker.
I totally agree. It won’t matter who we bring in as a striker if we don’t change the way we play in the final third. We also lose a lot of control in games because we’re so poor in possession at times.
I think as we move away from counter attacking and start controlling possession, and as Ten Haag gets more time to instill his principles, we will see more interplay and less hero ball

@@cathy4697 Bruno does very well, the main problem are the wingers aren't helping carry the creative burden in the team. As well as of course we are lacking a world class number 9.
As the squad is currently 100%. Plus he's just gonna get better and better. If he doesn't start he should play a lot more. I know he will but not as much as he should
“Dad Responses” to footballers is an unexplored area of football analytics. Perhaps we could have a new metric, something like xEDN (expected excited Dad Noises) per match, or something to that affect.

Man United definitely need another goal threat but it might not necessarily be a starting centre forward. Would be interesting to see what Garnacho from the left, Rashford up top and a right winger that can hold the width and put crosses in/contribute goals would accomplish. Everyone is betting on a Kane type but Rashford has become more of a 9 this season, United might just need a better bench option than Weghorst and someone from the right than can consistently affect games. Garnacho is the real deal.

Garnacho will have a tough time starting in the NT. When Messi and Di Maria retire after the Copa America, it is likely Argentina will form with a double 9 with Martinez and Alvarez. In that case, Garnacho would have to play left midfielder/winger of a 442. Which I don't think suits him. Till now he's shown aptitude as a finisher. Not the role for the left wing of a 442. If Scaloni subs either Alvarez or Martinez, then Garnacho can play the left wing. Both Martinez and Alvarez drop back and are ideal to make the space for an inverted winger to go central and score. However, Garnacho is a long way from subbing them.

Admittedly, I've only ever seen him in the Prem, but the only thing I remembered about him before this video was some egregious diving. This helps round things out a bit, nice work, Carl!

My concern is - I don't think he's the fastest or the most technical. His attitude/confidence is currently his best attribute but I'm not sure if that's a sustainable strategy for someone who wants to start (feel he might be Elanga 2.0)

Yeah sometimes... 20-30 starts a season is more than enough. We can't have players playing 50+ games anymore, I don't even think players want to play that many games anyway. Furthermore, the big teams have two quality players in each position these days.

The obstacle is Rashford. He's generally poorer as a CF and still need to play at LW to thrive. Unless Rashford improve his overall game to be a good no. 9, Garnacho may one day itch for a move away. I don't rate Rashford that highly right now, he still shows he doesn't contribute much when he's outside his purple patch, but when the time comes he'll still be chosen over Garnacho just because of his passport.
