    The worst thing about Heihachi coming back is that Harada will probably continue 7's dumb narrative that he's a sympathetic hero who hates the Devil Gene when he's really an abusive ruthless power hungry bastard. Him apparently hating it contradicts Tekken 4 where he wanted to combine his DNA, the Devil Gene and Ogre's blood and put the Mishima Zaibatsu on the line to lure Kazuya and Jin to him.

    • @OmegaBlackHeart
      @OmegaBlackHeart Před měsícem +69

      @@Xehanort10 agree with this. Keep in mind also that he killed his own father Jinpachi who's also gone largely unmentioned in the last 2 games. Heihachi's sudden sympathetic arc in 7 would work a little better if that plot point didn't exist.

    • @XellosNi
      @XellosNi Před měsícem +39

      On the flip side, I honestly wish Jin tried to do something more openly altruistic with the power he had as head of the Mishima Zaibatsu BEFORE concluding he should start World War III to materialize Azazel to achieve a double kill between the two of them.
      Like, that is THE wackiest way of making him a villain with a sympathetic motive that doesn't completely make him evil. He honestly just looked really stupid and his redemption arc feels awkward because of it.

    • @twangy_juice8126
      @twangy_juice8126 Před měsícem +13

      my theory was originally that they wanted to make Heihachi sympathetic before killing him off as a tribute to Daisuke Gori, who had just passed away during the interim of 6 and 7. My understanding is that it is often common practice to retire characters in Japanese media when the actor passes as well, unless absolutely necessary. And they wanted the last perception of him to be positive rather than negative? Or something, idk. Probably a dumb assumption to make.
      But clearly that's not the case if they're cool with bringing him back not one game later, so I guess Heihachi's just fucked unless they decide to reverse this weird lore change in 8.

      kinda noticed that about maximum impact and how like ff it has nightmare geese in that it's basically "what if the fatal fury timeline had the kof characters in it"in a way as i do like that difference snk has to actually go back to give a original game series timeline a conclusion with the other one showing the possibility of if things went differently.
      since from what i guess in the kof timeline is fatal fury 1-3 just maybe the fight with geese in 3 happens in his tower or he takes the scrolls after the twins are defeated leading to it as while the real bout game's didn't happen yet(really implied somethings similar to it's going to happen with how geese still has the scrolls being why he got involved in recent kof's when in ff he destroyed them/how inevitable it is orochi will return can see geese going after it's power with how he tries to in the gba kof.) it's implied terry found rock after he knocked geese off the tower a 2nd time with rock just getting a huge growth spurt with how rocky development of the series got during the nest saga/everyone being forgotten in ash.
      just with things switched around to explain the mark of the wolves characters that'd be younger giving interesting perspectives(hokutomaru being with mai when she's only mentioned in motw/has yet to appear in cotw,tizoc becoming a villain heel,ryo being shown with marco.) /in cases like krauser he's dead in the fatal fury timeline but just went back to his kingdom after losing in 96 which if they brought him back like to see him interact with rock maybe being a better person to him than geese or show what it's version of kain is doing since he didn't have to take over for geese.

      Of course it is. The story is an addition to the gameplay, all it has to do is give motivation for characters to throw hands, it's dumb fun and doesn't need to be more. Most people want to see their favourite characters fight, that's it. It's not like a film or a book in that the story isn't the main course, it's an appetizer. If the gameplay is great, there doesn't even have to be a story mode in my book.
      And if you're coming into a fighting game expecting some expertly written piece of fiction, let's just say you're looking in the wrong place.

    While people say "Of course Dictator comes back, he has before" but what's particularly infuriating about Street Fighter's fixation on always using the character is that they have a lot of REALLY cool story ideas that never get utilized because they keep going back to Shadaloo and Dictator whose only real plan is "become powerful" which makes for a rather uninteresting story direction even if they give it a decent amount of attention. Gill and G both had really interesting potential stories that could be used in SF6, and with the game making a point of saying it takes place after SF3 it only seems natural that the ambiguous ending of SF3 where the Illuminati was not necessarily defeated.
    One major thing about SF6 is "why is it important that this game's canon is after SF3?" and the answer you'd think would be, "To do something new, take it in a different direction, show how these characters have changed over a generation," but with the way SF6 has gone, why DOES it need to have a specific timeline placement as being "after 3"? None of the character developments are built on necessary elements from 3 other than Ryu's new outfit reflecting a little bit of Oro's visual motifs (though it also matches Gouken so that's a bit of a moot point), the story has nothing to do with SF3 elements and none of the SF3 characters outside of Elena (who, while she's certainly likeable, has the least that can be really done to show her character changing as a result of the timeline placement out of probably the entire SF3 roster) are even set to return.
    If you were to ask me, "What do you think would be the natural course of action for SF after 3, storyline-wise?" I'd point to Gill's arcade ending it's implied he has brainwashed the fighters and takes them to his island utopia that it would have made perfect sense for THAT to be a setup of SF6's story mode.

      Man preach. Finally moving forward in the timeline in 6 was such a big deal at first but all it served to do was just change up some character designs in the end. Nothing is done with this game finally being (fully) after 3, and World Tour sucks as a story mode cause it's just a pointless f*ck all Create a character adventure for the main plot nobody asked for with only sidequests and the actual playable characters making callbacks and Easter eggs being the only source of appeal. 25 years for just a big nothing burger. Not to mention leaving a lot of things hanging from 5 as well, if this game goes by without addressing G, Rose's vision, etc that's just hack writing.
      Even the new characters, while nice designs and likeable, the only one that seems to have an actually interesting plotline being set up is Lily and (and kinda Aki but it's just more shadaloo busywork end of the day). Not that every character in a fg roster needs to have extreme plot importance or even a super serious, high stakes self contained one. But only 1 and a half characters out of i think the largest starting cast of newcomers in the series, at least in a while, with an actual plotline to follow is definitely odd. Like i think Luke is involved with Ken's story stuff but that's comic only for some reason. Jamie has nothing going on outside of occasionally calling back to Yun and Yang. Kim has beef with JP but so far there doesn't seem to be much to it and JP himself is getting kinda cucked in his status as big bad this early anyway. Manon is cool but doesn't really have a story besides idk, her mom not being around or something. The only thing keeping Marisa from being joke character tier is that she's a competent fighter, but mostly just comic relief. Lily and Aki are the only ones with intrigue being built i feel.

      When old characters are then added, we can see how they interact with the new stuff. Also, people already know them, so they will buy them... after giving their chance to the new faces. Plus, dlcs tend (not always) to get more sophisticated gameplays. It is the occasion to make these veterants more unique and fresh.

    One reason why I was absolutly sure why Heihachi wasn't gonna come back because Heihachi in the past had two late seiyuus. You had his first voice actor Daisuke Goro who voiced Heihachi up until Tekken 6 where he died sometime after, which afterwards he was recasted by his second longest running seiyuu; Unsho Ishizuka.
    Ironically and sadly; the guy passed away after Tekken 7 came out, the same game where Heihachi died, so it's like as if it was fated that when the character dies; the actor dies with them and I thought after that they were NEVER gonna bring him back and retire him for good.
    Because in Japan; voice actors are treated with much more respect with certain roles, so at times for a LOOONG while; a character who had that Japanese voice wouldn't get recasted in future games or anything unless so much time has passed. After Ishizka's death which happened sometime after Heihachi's death in Tekken 7; that felt like a time to lay him down for good and move on, no need to bring him back when they lost TWO VAs, especially since the second one died after Heihachi's death in the last game.
    But no they had to bring him back...because why not?
    Also unless it is confirmed otherwise...I don't think the Cyrax and Sektor are in MK1 are meant to be female versions of the male versions we knew in the older timelines. Cyrax and Sektor are in the end; code names, not their REAL names (if they were...their parents must had robot fetishes lol) so these two could just be female members of the Lin Kuei who just so happen to have those codenames. The biggest question to ask Liu Kang on why he did certain things in my opinion was "Why did Liu Kang decide Takeda and Kenshi should be cousins rather than father and son?" like isn't that...creepy? I swear some of the re-imaginings from the developers were only brainstormed for the sake of change but didn't put much thought on "Umm wait why would Liu Kang change THIS about the character"? (Like I get half of the fanbase didn't like the Kombat Kids but what made Liu Kang decide "Lol im not gonna have Johnny and Sonya meet up and have Cassie, so she's not in this timeline!").
    My bigggest concern however is ...who the hell will be Sub-Zero in the next MK game if Bi-Han is Noob while Kuai Liang is stuck as Scorpion?

If Capcom wanted to appease those who wanted him back, they could've created a non-canon entry in the series in which to bring dead and retired characters back, so that the canon games don't have to include Bison and he stays dead therein.
      Hell, with that, maybe, most of the World Warriors can stay retired, also. Street Fighter 6 takes place after Street Fighter III. I had a theory that Heihachi isn’t coming back for real and instead Reina is trying to trick people in universe that he’s returned.
    The big reason is that before we see what looks like him coming out of the volcano in what looks like in universe footage he’s wearing a mask.
    The masked man might be an imposter possibly one of his 7 other illegitimate children emulating him.
    I like this idea a lot since it can serve as an exploration of Reina’s relationship with heihachi which the main story has yet to explain.
    Shes kinda an anomaly because she’s the only child of Heihachi that doesn’t despise him so what’s the deal.

Baek, Jun, King I were all attacked by Ogre and as of Tekken 3 and 4 believed to be dead. Only King remained so and his successor wasn't really a different character other than being under Armor King's tutelage. Hell, even Armor King got the twin treatment in a cheap excuse to bring him back in 5 DR. People want to say story doesn't matter in fighting games, but it does. It affects sales when they see favorites return or mysterious new characters. When people saw Devil Jin and Jinpachi for the first time in early location test footage of T5, everyone in the Tekken Zaibatsu community went crazy for it. I agree with everything. If the game doesn't have stakes through story, then why bother developing a new game with such contents, instead of everybody's here attempts. Choose characters with an interesting arcs and develope them through several games, until their conclusion. For example, a perfect conclusion for Liu Kang would be relinquishing his role and settle with Kitana (since it hurts him how much of a personal happines he had to sacrifice), leaving Kung Lao, Kung Jin or Kai in a role of a new guardian and a champion.

    Given how terrible the writing has been throughout most of the Tekken games in general, with them retconning character motivations and personalities. I'm genuinely surprised that people are shocked that Harada and crew would pull a move like this and bring back a dead character for reasons like he's popular. The reality is that Tekken's story has ALWAYS been one of the more weaker fighting games when it comes to well developed characters, and writing in general. Now, that's not to say you don't have a right to criticize it, but after being disappointed with so MANY entries in the series, I've learned to keep my expectations low. And If you want a story with more developed characters that change and evolve throughout the series in a realistic matter, BlazBlue for the most part does this extremely well. With it having arguably the best conclusions to an arc of ANY protagonist in a fighting game IMO.

      @@neinja66469 "Aint no way lil bro yapped on abt how Tekken's story was never good then proceeds to point to BlazBlue"
      Accept I NEVER said that Tekken's story was never good, since I do think Tekken 4 story was solid for what was told, as bare bones as it was. That said, What I DID say was that MOST of the Tekken games suffered from terrible writing, and I do think that's the case, and I think Tekken 7 is the WORST story wise and where several things don't make sense, since it retcons character motivations and backstories, such as Heihachi's motivation being inconsistent for mistreating Kazuya. For example, in the original Tekken 1 story line. Heihachi believed his son was too weak to ever inherit his conglomerate, and decided to throw a 5 year old Kazuya into a ravine, and thought that if he were truly strong enough, he would be able survive the fall and climb back up. Tekken 7 retconned Heihachi motivation for throwing Kazuya, which was a test of strength into being about trying to rid the devil gene when that was NEVER a factor in the previous games. I have issue with this, since it not only retcons the previous games events, but changes a fundamental aspect that we know about Heihachi's character, since he's always been shown to be a ruthless self centered character that would do things that he felt worked best for him, and didn't care about ridding the world of the devil gene. Heck , in Tekken 4 Heihachi's goal was to create a new life form by splicing Ogre's genome, and devil gene with his own. And that's not even getting into Tekken 7 inconsistent story presentation.
      Tekken 8 Story wasn't much better, the biggest improvement was more spectacle and better choreographed fights, but the writing is arguably just as bad as 7 for a MULTITUDE of reasons. One reason is because of how unrealistic it was. For instance, in the fact that Jin is responsible for the deaths of MILLIONS of innocent people including WOMEN and CHILDREN and NONE of his friends give him shit for it. Keep in mind characters like Ling and Asuka are supposed to represent the pure and kind hearted characters, with Asuka specifically having a strong sense of justice, and technically Ling hasn't met Jin since T4 canon wise I believe, so this was a good opportunity for her to show her dissapointment in all the things the man's done while still understanding the necessity of him giving the situation, since he's the only one with the power to beat his father. So the fact that she has nothing to say on this dark subject is silly. Heck, Alisa who outside of Miguel, suffered the most out of cast under Jin's actions in T6, and the guy never officially apologized to her for his evil actions toward herself. Then there's the end of the main story in the fact that there is absolutely no way the surviving countries with their governments would be cool with Jin roaming around after all the crap he pulled. And it doesn't matter if Jin destroyed an even greater evil in Kazuya, the fact is the man has TONS of blood on his hands of people from various other countries and I imagine in a real world scenario they wouldn't let would Jin did slide and demand justice( just look at the outrage over Russia/Ukraine and Israel and Palestine for further proof). And the problem is Jin's ending (presumed to be the canon one) sees him getting off relatively easy. I also was disappointed that Most of the cast STILL hasn't developed as characters at all, and are just as one dimensional as Kazuya. Finally, Reina not being foreshadowed in the series at all despite the story signifigance she has in this game and to what's to come is annoying too.
      Tekken IMO has the worst story of any fighting game I've ever played, since it seems like the developers aren't even trying to right well developed and consistent characters, and are more focused on just visual spectacle. Compared to stories like BlazBlue where the opposite is true. Yes, you can make fun of how convoluted the plot is all day long, but at least in that fighting game series MANY of the cast go through arcs and get TONS of character development. And one dimensional characters are few there.
      "Cool story, Shit gameplay"
      BlazBlue's gameplay is just as complex as it's plot, and at one point was so popular in Japan it had rivaled the almighty Tekken in arcades. As far as why BlazBlue's gameplay is so good, there's already several videos breaking the game down, but if your STILL somehow confused I'd be more than happy to explain why so many people like the game.
