  • Whilst we down tools on the major renovation projects at the chateau for a few weeks, we still make some progress with creating an outdoor living area. With the help of some good friends from the US, we finalise the concrete slab ready to lay the travertine that will complete our outdoor terrace.
The Chateau Adventures charts the adventures of Nick and Nicole (and their son Noah) as they take on a renovation of a lifetime to bring back to life an ancient 1,000 year old chateau nestled amongst the vines in the small village of St Julien D'Eymet in the Dordogne, so that they may create both a home and a business.

Why so many sunflowers in France?

Good question. I don’t really know. Lots of sunflower oil production?

More water means more cement. 12 kg bag cement no more than 6 litres of water.

Pardon my ignorance, but how does one insure that the slab has the proper slope so that the water drains away from the chateau and not towards it?

Good question. We ensured there was a 1-2% decline away from the chateau. There are a few ways to do that, you can measure it using a laser level. Or have a long-ish level and ensure the bubble is touching the back line which is approximately 1%. We set up the wooden shuttering first around the perimeter at the right pitch and used that as a guide for the cement. slab.

So strange. It does feel like the CZcams algorithm isn't our friend currently 😕 The next episode should be out on Wednesday as we continue with the oak staircase build.
