      They can both be good, you know. And besides, their stats are virtually the same if you normalize to the number of games they played, except for sacks, where Urlacher leads by a full sack per season. Lewis was the very visible face of a great defense with an offense to back it up, while Urlacher was one of the leaders of a great defense with a mostly lackluster offense.

      The Colts had the #32 run defense in the NFL that year . . . the field was wet . . . yet the Bears only ran the ball 19 times (they were ahead into the second quarter and within a TD most of the game) . .. they could have pounded the ball and likely won that game. I almost feel that Lovey wanted his mentor (Dungy) to go out a winner

      @davidpaul2797 Před 5 lety +9

      @Drummajortsu Orton got them through the playoffs, but the Bears ownership was so hot on Grossman they forced him back in that game. There's a reason why Trent Dilfer was a super bowl champ, he didn't turn the ball over and scored enough points for his defense to play with a lead. I love Lovie Smith, but he should have known that team lived and died by their defense and not taken the ball out of their hands by giving it to Grossman.

    Best Urlacher play, the one I most remember him for, was playing Green Bay and he overplayed a sweep that ended up fooling everybody when it became a reverse. Urlacher recovered, ran over multiple blockers to not only catch up with the reverse on the other side of the field but ended up turning the play into a 3 yard loss.
    It was the single most athletic defensive play I had ever seen.

    A play that he doesn't receive enough credit for is the Mike Brown interception on the first play of overtime against the 49ers in '01.
    Garcia dropped back, threw the ball to Terrell Owens, who peeked over and saw #54 in the area. Owens proceeded to get the 🐊 arms and tips the ball into the air, which clutch Mike Brown snagged and ran into the end zone to win the game.
    Those were great times man

    I remember games where it literally seemed like the whole game was Aaron Rodgers vs. Brian Urlacher. Bears offense couldn't do anything. Even still, Urlacher would somehow manage to come out on top. A middle linebacker shouldn't be able to beat an all time great quarterback by himself, but Urlacher could.

      Those matchups were legendary. Urlacher vs. Favre was fun too, and in fact more fun for me because Urlacher usually wound up beating Favre and the Packers whereas they kept losing to Rodgers and the Packers (because the Bears offense sucked). No one read either Favre or Rodgers better than Urlacher.

My Hall of Fame game mode players were always Middle Linebackers. I admired him so much even though i am a Cowboys fan. I grew up wanting to be just like him. It wasnt until i was 13 that i learned that his name is pronounced Ur Lack Er instead of Err lah Cher
