How Beginners Can Make Money Writing on Medium in 2020

I've been earning money writing about what I love since October 2018. And Medium is the best platform for this. Just last month, I made over $1000 writing just 6 stories.
However, Medium is always changing the rules of how to succeed, so I created this completely up-to-date video with EVERYTHING you need to take into account to start your writing career on Medium.
It's roughly split into three parts:
1. How can you get your own following?
2. How can you leverage the existing following of others on Medium?
3. Tips, tricks, background info and resources.

Ray Thacker i wrote my first article there last year and rarely publish articles but so far nothing has really “blown up” I only have 10 followers, which is fine because I’m writing mostly just because I love to write but I find it’s much harder to reach an audience there than on most social media’s like Instagram
Tony Robbins says the FEAR is (False Evidence that Appears Real).
You have to ask yourself what you are fearful of don't you? Are you afraid that your article may not be good enough? That people will criticise you/your article?
Once you figure out what's holding you back ask yourself what will I lose if I don't write that article? What's the worst that can happen?
If you look VERY CLOSELY at the people who are criticising someone, you'll see that they usually haven't done much in either their lives or in that area that you're writing about. WHY? Because they're lazy, and don't want to see you or anyone get ahead of them. I've found very few example's of people who were successful criticise someone. They encourage instead of putting someone down. Remember that.
Send them health, happiness, and love in your comment section if you do get a negative response. It shows everyone that you're taking the high road, and 'they' are the one with a problem..

As long as you like writing, it's 100% possible to write on Medium :) Also from this brief youtube comment it sounds like your english is great?? and you could understand me speaking super quickly (which i do in all my videos because I get so excited lol) which even my own parents can't do sometimes!

@@emikabrekker Yes, I did for some time. It was an awesome experience and nobody ever complained about my language mistakes (grammarly was helpful). I stopped (for now) because I felt like I wanted to invest my writing time in different project. However, I would highly recommend to try it out for yourself :)

Hi Zulie! Thank you for the inspiration :) However, I signed up to medium with a big motivation and excitement. I wrote 2 articles on the first day and published them. It's been a week and curation status is still "We are processing this story. Hang tight!" A week! I also wrote a few other articles that I think should be really interesting (well...who knows:), I shared the drafts to a few publication channels and nobody replied, not even a word :( I'm waiting and have no idea if they saw my articles and declined them or haven't seen them yet... So my motivation dropped from 100 to 5 :(
Anyway, I'm glad you enjoy Medium, good luck :)
Ah I am so sorry to hear that! Curation DOES take up to 2 weeks especially for early writers, so don't give up hope yet.

I was so motivated to start writing in Medium when I heard it here in your youtube channel. Unfortunately, the medium partner program was not available here in the Philippines. So I cannot monetize the claps I'll receive in my published article. So sad T_T For those who want to try writing in medium to earn money, check first if it is available in your location.
Hey Claudine - yeah this is my biggest beef with Medium/Stripe. Sorry to hear you're no longer pursuing Medium as a writing platform. The ultimate choice is yours, but I do want to mention a few benefits of carrying on with Medium even though it is unfair that you're excluded due to your geographical location.
While you won't be paid by Medium directly YET, and I know that sucks and is unfair and I really hope Medium/Stripe change their policy soon, but a) there are other ways to earn money, like driving people to your own blog, using affiliate links and so on and b) eventually, I hope, Medium/Stripe will monetize for additional countries. If that's the case, you'll be established when that happens.

Thank you! It was very useful. Unfortunately english is not my first language, even if I studied it since I was very young. I'm from Italy, and in Italy Medium is totally strange. Last summer I have tried to start a writing profile on Instagram, but I don't think that it is the best social for writers. Now I am here to try again! But first I need to learn something more about Medium, because each time I open it, I don't have any idea about what I should do and what I should not 😅

Can payments be processed through other means such as paypal, western union, etc. as I am in a Country that is not available to stripe at the moment.
Right now, Stripe is the only accepted payment method (which sucks, I know!). I've heard of some folks managing to get around this - here's one video I've had someone recommend to me on the subject: czcams.com/video/pejIPn8eV5w/video.html
Since my country is not listed, the only option is stripe atlas. This would mean that I would need to pay taxes in the U.S. even though I do not live or work there, and I would have to figure out how to do taxes in the U.S. which sounds dreadful. Such a shame, they only offer one payment method...

Nice info, I was thinking to start writing some articles in Medium, because I was a teacher and I really like to share some knowledge about programing, design patterns and special game design, but I was thinking to write in Spanish, what do you think? could be a problem?

Languages other than english aren't curated by Meidum distributors, but they can still earn money. Right now there aren't a lot of people writing in Spanish int hose topics so I think there is an excellent chance that you could provide that market with the information they want in the best language for them.
