  • I got it cheap because it had a broken clutch fork. Its rare to find these with the 1.8t and a five speed so I said screw it and bought. Its been so long since I had a turbo vehicle so I figured this was kind of a cheap shortcut to get one without having a car payment.
    Total investment so far.
2002 VW Beetle GLS Sport Turbo - $1000
Single Mass Clutch Conversion - $170
    Clutch Fork - $20
    Timing Belt & Waterpump Kit - $150
Total Investment so far. - $1340

I picked up my 98 manual 2.slow beetle 4 years ago for 500$ , bought a valce head and gaskets, changed them, and seriously, that little babe is going strong, starts everytime, drives fun and probably is the best car I've had for the money

It’s crazy how cheap you can buy a car and fix it. But most people don’t know how to wrench

Door panels beware when you take the panels off be very careful the top, where you'd put your arm when the window is down splits!, mine split all the way across the top (frustrating). If you get new ones (recommend you do this new or intact) buy PC-7 epoxy and lots of JB weld, get some carbon fiber rough the inside up, and paste the carbon fiber (could use fiberglass too) on the not seen underside. It's like a spline fitting piece that splines into a slot. Story of mine, it split but 10" from the mirror back, I did the above to fix it my fix did work but when I put the panel back on it just split the rest of the way after my fix. So, do the whole way across I used JB weld and PC-7 on top cause the JB weld could run in under the lip. I also fixed my handle and by the looks of your passenger side handle I see I am going to have to do reinforce the bottom too, I think Las Vegas heat and sun are killing my clown car. Thank you for sharing post some more improvements and updates. I did post a vid/clip on my channel before the top split all the way if you want to understand more of what I am talking about. My Bug is a 2003 Tubo S wolf is sheeps clothing I call it😉

Look up the vid of the auto spoiler thats special for the early year turbos. They pop up around 45mph, for 01’s around 93mph, i didnt know for years that ive had a little spoiler poppin up n down the whole time. Once i discovered it I learned about a switch under the steering wheel that allows you to manually pop up the spoiler whenever you want. Love it
