Point of correction, the three countries do not necessarily need the water ways of ecowas to become economically strong. In fact, it has helped them to look inwards and start manufacturing their own goods and produce and in this way industrialize their nations. His basic assumption that ‘anti imperialism’ is what drives the decision making of the AES countries is the biggest flaw in his analysis. This leads him to draw wrong conclusions. These leaders are motivated by the lack of independence & sovereignty. The consequences are that they do not control their own state, it’s territory, their natural resources & decision making about their own future. It’s from this that all other challenges such as extreme levels of poverty, unemployment, insecurity, etc, emerge. Adopting an anti imperialist stance is thus a by product of reclaiming their independence & sovereignty.
