- The Pocketbook InkPad Color is a force to be reckoned with. This model has a large screen, which is ideal for ebooks, manga, webtoons or PDF files. Colors are richer and deeper, due to the Kaleido 2 color filter array. In this review video we look at the UI, ebooks, comics, magazines and pictures, this will give you a sense on what the Inkpad Color brings to the table.

Finally. It's here. What we have been waiting for for over a decade. Amazing.
except not android
You all prolly dont give a shit but does anybody know a method to log back into an instagram account?
I somehow forgot my account password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Jaxson Jaxen Instablaster =)
@Amos Royal Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and im trying it out atm.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Amos Royal it worked and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much you really help me out :D
Hey Peter! I very much like your new review format! Your voice intonation welcomes to watch this video through the end. Keep it up :)
it seems like you're the only person on the Internet who showed zooming in/out for this model, a huge thanks for that! I didn't know if this e-book was capable to do that, now I do know.
Very nice! Things are progressing. I'm still fine with my b/w e-reader(for color content I use my regular tablet) but this is starting to become more and more appealing.
That PDF looks the best it has on any colour e-reader you've reviewed, really nice.
Looks beautiful! This is truly the future!
Yes unfortunately. I wish it was the present!
Nice! Great review as always 👍 .
excellent review! I can't wait to get my hands on one of those!! A dream come true... I can only wish haha
Couldn't resist. Had to buy one. Hopefully, Goodereader ships fast!
Yes indeed, all of these are shipping in the next couple days :-)
Yes, It's about time. I ordered it today.
How is it?
The colors are really good- I think the best one so far out of all the other color ereaders
Great review!
Amazing vid keep up the good work
YES !!!!! I am #1 !
BTW : I miss the weekly LIVE programs!
we are going live this weekend, to look at this device and answer all of your questions about it, showing you anything you want to know.
Ok, these 7.8" Kaliedo 2 screens came faster than I thought and look great 😁
I just hope other readers that have more versatility and Android app capability are coming soon too, I've been holding up for color e-Ink on a 2012 Kindle 5 for way too long. Please, Kobo, Onyxboox and others - hurry up!
I said I was waiting for a large screen color, and I got one.
If something better comes out I'll get that too.
I have now Pocketbook Touch HD 3, Pocketbook Color and Inkpad Color. The improvement between Kaleido 1 (Pocketbook Color) and Kaleido 2 (Inkpad Color) when it comes to contrast is hardly noticeble. The main difference is that the annoying rastering effect you see on Kaleido 1, especially when you read ordinary B&W books, is more or less gone on Kaleido 2. The color raster is now horisontal instead of diagonal and the darker blue and green raster dots are no longer neighbours. The color reproduction and saturation of Kaleido 1 and Kaleido 2 are more or less the same.
Thanks to the decreased rastering effect, in good external light condition (sun or reading lamp) the Inkpad Color works almost as well as HD 3 for reading B&W books. In low light conditions the HD 3 is still superior since a color filter will by definition absorb a lot of the light. Also the frontlight of the color models is inferior to the HD 3. It seems to be placed behind the color filter which results in a bluegray tint and reduced color saturation. The light is far colder than the coldest HD 3 light setting. The front light is also too strong on its lowest level; the lowest light setting on the Color models corresponds to almost 25% setting on the HD 3! I think it would be a big improvement if the frontlight could be placed in front of the color filter array. The frontlight of the Inkpad is less uniform than both Pocketbook models. The frontlight of HD 3 is perfect.
The screen of Inkpad is 69% larger and the size of the device is 52% larger compared to Pocketbook. This increases readability a lot but also decreases the portability a lot. The Pockebook fits in your jacket pocket, in fact even in the back pocket of a jeans which makes it a nice reading companion when you walk. You need a small bag to bring the Inkpad with you.
I have a problem with the Inkpad that the dropdown menu where you can reach the settings is corrupted. I have made factory reset, formated the internal memory and tried with different languages but the problem remains. It would be interesting to hear if others experienced the same problem.
PS. Just got a reply from Pocketbook that the corrupted dropdown menu is
a known problem that will be fixed in an upcoming firmware release.DS
Nice colours! Now waiting when Onyx will release 9.7 inch colour e-reader.
Can you put it in a side by side compression with a standart ereader?
I want to see exactly how noticable the grayish background and how fast it is compared to a regular ereader.
The grayish background when not using colors is the biggest concern i am assuming for the most of us.
I'm waiting so long for a color forma, which you guys assured me will not be coming anytime soon🥺
E-ink technology is amazing
While the screen seems promising, the device itself seems sluggish and borderline unresponsive. Well, I guess we need to wait for Onyx to flex their muscles and introduce Nova Color.
Onyx show muscles in overpricing 420 vs 280 pocketbook. Hard to beat.
Remember we're never going to see it perform like an LCD screen.. it's simply not possible... Under the hood it's literally printing every page, pushing real pigment to the surface like a printer..
Just the fact it changes as fast as it does is incredibly impressive
@@basslin3r exactly
Damn I got Pocketbook Color last year. I'd have waited if I knew. Anyways: happy to see more of those coming to market, and improving so fast. The device is great, I use it for browsing, PDFs, eBooks, comics, manga, drawing sketches, etc. It's not perfect, it's slow and has its flaws, but I'm happy overall.
You should know a better version is *always* right around the corner. If it isn't good enough, the next one will be better. If it is good enough, be happy with your purchase. For me, 6" was too small. I got a nova 2 (7.8") and I had it for a year. Would I rather it be color? Sure, but I didn't want to wait a year + for it. So I'm happy.
Nova 3 color is coming next week.
Hi! It's true that you can read black and white without the front light on? Thanks!
@@JorgeGonzalez-qf6zq Yes, you can
@Ser Ígneo oh sorry, I meant can't, I saw some negative reviews saying it was too dark. Happy to know it's not true. It's your pdf experience okei? I would use it mainly for epub and some technical PDFs. Sorry for asking, I can't find a lot of reviews on actual reading experience.
And many thanks for answering!
Vey good review, but why use filters? Why not like lcd use 3 individual colours plus black & white? Or is it not possible currently? Did liquid ink screen work that way?
I'm tempted to get this.
too slow
@@danhle1032 Just noticed the specs. Yeah, the 1GZ processor is underwhelming. I was looking to replace my 2013 Kobo Aura, which also has a 1GZ processor. Too bad.
I think he meant it's sold out
@@JorgeRodriguez-sc9vn Nah, it's available. It is kinda slow though. I don't mind 1GZ on an e-reader for reading only pure text, but this e-reader is marketed as something for reading pdfs, comicbooks and other colored media. Needs to be faster for the constant zooming required when reading those.
@@chaios right and I use my current note2 to watch lots of videos. tempted to get hisense a7cc but 7.8inch seems like the sweet spot
Very tempting. It has the right screen size, resolution for b/w and nice color. Unfortunately if it's not possible to install Android apps, then I will have to wait another solution.
Do youu want an eReader android app, or why do you want to install Android apps?
This comes with 16GB of internal storage but can be expanded up to 32GB using the micro SD card slot. It can be further expanded if you format the card to fat32, I've seen reports of people saying they have 128GB and 512GB cards working with no issues.
need a smartphone with this screen
Search for "Hisense A7 CC"
It's a little slow yet. But it is the right direction. Next year will be interesting.
Great video.
How long before they get that CFA ppi to 150 or 300? The 100ppi filter, and the price I guess, are the two things that give me pause.
Though, I guess it's not too big of a deal as long as black and white elements in mixed content (black text on white background inside a color image, i.e. most colored manga and comics) take advantage of the 300PPI.
Great device & review. Didn't understand if it's possible to buy books from Amazon store.
Great video
Woah, colour eink!!!
What stylus that in this video, I went to your website and cannot tell which one it is?
Does POCKETBOOK allow you to access public library apps like LIBBY?
Perfect! Pen, color. The last thing is android. All you need
Imagine colour e-ink in 10 or 15 years time. This tech is going places. Question: why are Kindles 6 and 7 inches? Too small for reading books in my opinion. I own a Kindle and have never really used it for that reason.
I know, late answer, but most people (I don't!) like them this small, I myself would love them larger (because if I go anywhere to read, I'll have a rucksack with me for a bottle of water, some treats, sunglasses etc.)...then again: I would also want more functions that many people are fine with being gone from mobile devices (or sadly never introduced!), like having a removable battery, headphone-jacks, micro-sd-card-slots (yes: More than 1) etc. etc.
Agreed, I also own one, it is indeed small. I often use it in landscape mode for that reason. Perhaps another reason they are so small is that e-ink is still relatively expensive. A 10 inch (double the surface) costs already about 400 euro, and a 13-inch e-ink reader may cost you 800 euro, which I think is something most people are not willing to spend on an e-reader.
Hi. I'm looking for a device specifically for WEBTOONS and online/offline Korean Manhwa comics. Can this device do that? I looked at the Boox Onyx Air 3 Color which you can go online (good processor), but no SD card. In reviews, I much prefer the brighter color of this Inkpad, and it has an SD card, BUT.... can it effectively watch Webtoons online?
Thank you.
Waiting for a 10 inch one.
is there an estimate of when onyx will release 13.3(or above) inch e ink tablet with color and pen?
Τhats what I am waiting for too
Is it as easy on the eyes to read on as the kindle paper white or is more like a phone screen/tablet?
if i buy from your shop how long it will take for it to reach the UK? Regards
Does anyone know if there as a way to contact there store by phone because they just screwed up my order and the chat from there website doesn't seem to work?
Is there an option to export your highlights to an HTML file (or any other format) ?
can you make a ranking of the best color ebooks in 2022? color and screen quality
Oh. I want this!, but why are companies still using 32GB limit on sd cards? Do they not understand some of us out here have collections of pdf file that number in triple digits or more?
I always feel the same. At this point, it probably wouldn't be much harder for them to increase it to even at least 125gb. Storage isn't a big issue any more, when it comes to that size. And with so many of us going for something like this, it just means we're going to be using files bigger than what's normally found on a Kindle. If they gave it more storage space, I would really consider it. Guess I'm just gonna continue reading comics on my tablet.
You can use bigger sd cards. They only have to be formatted to FAT32. Windows doesn't let you do that with bigger cards, but it works with programs like Rufus.
@@SuperTimotheus thanks for the info. Will have to look into that.
I imagine that it would probably drain the battery much quicker
@@alphabilly5478 A small sacrifice if it meant I could take the device to the park bench and see my photo ebooks clearly in broad daylight.
Nice one
I want a device just to read pdfs, write and highlight on them. Do you think that this is worthy?
Interesting informations
No comparison face to face the 1-st generation Caleido with the new one. Why?
Forgot to ask.... Can you Install OTHER COMIC READERS? Or does it have to be whatever is on the unit? thanks
No, this isn't running Android and you can't download apps
where can buy this product
wish it had a warm light :/
From those that own them. How good does the eInk look in direct sunlight? One of the reasons I still keep an absolutely ancient Kindle "Keyboard" eReader is that outside it looks fantastic. I am considering upgrading to the Inkpad here to be able to use not only in low light situations but to expand to color graphic novels, comic books, etc.
Also, if anybody has one of these and has done Comics on them. Does it natively support the old CBR and CBZ standard file formats for digital comics?
Yes, it supports formats CBR and CBZ. Color e-Ink only works on the principle of reflection, as well as black and white display, so reading in the sun is excellent.
Will I be able to download the Kindle app?
It just has a very early 2000s tech look to it.
the refresh is terrible. can it be adjusted like the paperwhite to refresh after a set amount of pages ?
Can it run doom?
Can Kindle books be read on this device?
Can i read books bought on amazon?
I like this but hope onyx boox does something similar
That's what I'm waiting for too, I just got my first Onyx eReader with the Note Air and having that device with a color screen is just about perfect!

😍❤️
How's the battery life?
if this is anywhere near the pocketbook Inkpad 3... it's good enough for a couple days with heavy usage.
I'd love to buy one, but my Amazon library os so extensive...
Hello my Dears. I am living in Germany and I want to read more Mangas in English Language, which aren't sold in kindle store. Can you give me an advise where i can buy english e-mangas that offer is same big as amazons kindle store? I found Nook (Barnes & Noble) from VIZ but i don't know if it's compatible with Pocketbook Format. Which other Companys do you know with big assortment of E-mangas? Tank you all and i wish you a nice day!
I advise you look into converting your Kindle collection to regular ePubs. Just putting Kindle on all your devices only strengthens their stranglehold on the ebook market, much better to remove your dependence on them and take control of the goods you purchased. Then you never need to worry about Kindle support ever again.
I liked what I saw here
Yeah… but is expensive ! I study biology and I don't think colour is necessary unless you want to focus in botany. Since the last week I have a e-reader 7.8" screen and it's perfect for academics books for molecular biology, genetics and physiology, and even the differents tones of grey give you an idea of the colours that the book show !
@@whoknowsme9592 It's not impossible study biology in a black and white e-ink, but it would be very satisfatory and convenient!
Type transcription factors on google and set images...
48GB is just not enough space for this to be a go-to for comic book readers. Your average TPB is going to be between 500MB and 2GB. That will fill up far too quickly and having to constantly ship data back and forth between your collection seems overly tedious.
I still cannot fathom the use of a reader without either android or, like kindle, Kobo or B&N, access to a vast ebook anc comic shop.
I wonder why e-readers don't use CMYK for more accurate color representation.
Agree. The colour looks like what you'd get on a cheap newsprint or recycled brown paper. Not vibrant at all
I don´t know may be I missed this information but does it handle the kepub-format?
I would like to see a comparison in manga/comic reading with this device and the kobo forma.
I'm looking for a device that has good manga reading capabilities and the occasional comic.
Wait for something at least this big but with full Android support. It's getting really tedious really fast to convert every chapter or volume into .cbz or even .pdf just to be able to read instead of the one click experience of Tachiyomi (or most other Android manga app).
@@menpee why would i want to convert? While you can just download the original cbr/cbz of a volume?
@@bokkoman Not really an option with ongoing titles if you want to follow those weekly.
@@menpee Hence i said volumes, not chapters. That way i would have to wait till it it's released officially. But i get what you mean. Would be nice to have full android capabilities on it. This would be my first ereader, so this looks like a really nice one to start with considering the price.
@@bokkoman In my experience, once you try e-ink, there is no way back :D
Since these devices are not really lose as much reselling value as other electronics, it's kinda safe to invest now, enjoy today and resell later after a future upgrade.
this pen comes with the e-reader?
No, it comes separately
Price?
I wish they made Inkpad with color AND water resistance. It sucks that you have to choose which is more importan. That’s the reason why I ended up with Inkpad 3 Pro, because I read in bath all the time. But I wish I had color e-ink to read comic books :-/
I don't see any reason to buy such slow and fragile device just because of the color.
If I ever change my Kindle Paperwhite, it will be either K Oasis Color either Kobo Color
I would note to have a 55'' to 65 '' coloured ink whiteboard in my room for all the timetables and projects that I do.
Giveaway winner???
Colors looks ok. Still yellow is behind.
Some japanese comics have a few colour pages here and there. So a viewer capable of great monochrome and ok colour seem like a pretty perfect fit for that.
Anyone else remeber those thick Donald Duck pocket comics that had every odd page in colour? :)
Goddamn it, and I just bought the Boox color. Shoulda waited a bit longer. :(
It might be better that you brought that one, this has a 1ghz processor which makes it unbearably slow especially compared to an Onyx product
@@Jugobox25 Hmmm. Maybe. Maybe best to wait for a bigger Boox Color then. I did see some review that said the smaller Pocketbook had a lot of trouble with big files and pdfs, and I tend to sideload TPB-sized comic files.
@@buttsbrown2442 Yeah, I get it, I feel that Onyx is taking a bit more time but that they’ll come out with something real high quality
@@Jugobox25 Year, but Onyx is overpriced, Nova 3 color is 420, whatttttt the?
@@MrAkella76 But it’s a whole tablet, not just an ereader and it comes with a stylus, and it’s new tech. You gotta keep your expectations in check
Maybe in 5 years there will be a Kindle color
Color, physical page turn buttons, and an SD card slot. This would be perfect if it were Android.
Kinda under spec (cpu & ram) or I'm I wrong? it looks good thought, that whitish/grayish background don't know if it will be annoying or not and no orange light... mixed feelings... it was so close for instant buy.
It uses a linux distro and not android so it runs faster with less cpu. And keeps the price down.
@@BloodHassassin That is true, linux is less power hungry than android and I suppose it has better battery efficiency, I just wanted a bit more power, if it was dual at 1.5 to 2 Ghz or quad core with 2gb ram I would be more than happy.
Plus I don't understand why they removed warm light... maybe next years "upgraded" model...
329$ ouch
Only get it if you can justify the usage. If you don't need it then wait for something cheaper man, it will happen and us first adopters always pay more.
Does this have contrast options or bold options for PDFs?
Does it have landscape mode?
What is the max micro SD card capacity?
How is battery life?
Is it a Chinese device? Or just made in China?
Too bad Pocketbook have such a disregard for their customers whenever their products break. I've seen so many examples where they blame the customer instead of accepting responsibility. I avoid this brand now.
Why o why... they should have increase the RAM a bit more... 🙄
Manga machine
All a error, it must have a 13,3 inch screen, come to a mayor public objetive...
Le falta Android.
The colours are horribly washed
But at least it is less washed out than earlier attempts, so it's heading in the right direction.
@@johnhopper8350 yeah, but it is a substandard product, that's the problem
A review to compare the onyx boox nova 3 colour and this pocketbook pls!
Looks faint
This is very gimmicky and definitely not my 280 euro worth. I'm reading epub anyway, I don't need colors.
A lot of tech books are in colour or have stuff highlighted which is hard to read on a b/w e-reader. Also pdf looks better on a bigger screen with colour
