I'm so glad the Isle of songs is on here. No matter how many times I've tried to solve it over the years I have to give up and use a guide very time.
That's so surprising to hear bc this one is so intuitive to me. I just played thru SS HD twice in a row and didnt sweat this puzzle at all. The TP guardian puzzle did give me grief tho

@@circa81 yeah it def shouldn't be as high on the list, most of the 2d puzzles are way bigger head scratchers. In a Link to the Past half of them are like... how are you even supposed to know to try that lol
It was so easy to solve.
the sacred crest from phantom hourglass had me stuck for an entire year as a kid, I solved the puzzle on accident when I closed the DS in frustration and heard the little puzzle solved jingle come from the crunchy speakers

The ds zelda games get crap but you have to admit they did try to take full advantage of the system I appreciate them for that
Ah yes! The puzzle that leaves a lot of people scratching their heads and then disappointment after they figure it out.
For the LttP Ice palace puzzle, a lot of people just did Misery Mire and got the Cane of Somaria first.
Which would be a great solution if I thought of it 20 years ago.
The sky keep is without a doubt the most annoying and hardest puzzle to figure out with having to move the rooms all of the place to collect the triforce.
Now that Tears of the Kingdom is out, I think it’s safe to put Alignment of the Circles on the list as well.
The mirrors in the mirror room in Majora's mask emit light for as long as you reflected into it. So if you held it there for a minute, you would have a minute to reflect further

Imagine not using the Stone Mask in Stone Tower Temple 😮
I don't wanna sound like "that guy who just wants to sound like he's better" because I don't think I'm better than any other Zelda fan, but I really don't remember having trouble with the island of songs or the jumping statues. They stumped me for several minutes, yes. But the ones that really stumped me have always stuck with me. Like Anju & Kafei's 3 day long quest line in Majora's Mask and that damn central room hidden key in OoT's water temple which if course made the list. That took me taking a couple weeks off Ocarina and coming back with a fresh set of eyes to even think to look down there.
I don’t remember the jumping statues being terribly hard either. It may have taken me ten minutes or longer and it was challenging, but I remember getting stuck much more in other Zelda puzzles. One of the biggest culprits being(besides the central room in Ocarina’s Water Temple)in the Snowhead Temple in Majora’s Mask and trying to figure out where to go after hitting those ice blocks as the Goron(for a while I thought you were supposed to break them all- no wonder I had such a hard time!!)
The ice block puzzle in Twilight Princess was the first hard Zelda puzzle to come to mind when I saw this video on my recommendations. That one was so annoying. Good list!
I think a good puzzle is one where, you COULD just memorize the solution, but otherwise it's a challenge each time you play. That's why the Phantom Hourglass map doesn't count for me; once you know what to do, any future challenge is gone.
The Oracle Dungeons do a pretty good version of that. In Seasons, there's a side quest that teaches you the combination to get the best sword. but If you know the combination already, you don't need to do the side quest.
Pretty good list. You just missed one imo - in Spirit Tracks, the higher floors of the Tower of Spirits have you do some crazy co-op stuff with Zelda that sometimes spans two separate floors, enough to force using a guide.
And Jabu Jabu's Belly... oh yes, the Water Temple's 2D cousin. What he didn't mention is that besides the water level changing, most of the dungeon's keys go to one room 😅

For the ice dungeon in a link to the past, I always went to the 6th dungeon first to get the red cane so as to put a block on that switch.

Those stone statues in Twilight Princess were a real annoyance, the 1st time. Every time after that I had the route memorized.

On the Sacred Grove Twilight Princess puzzle, the second I saw what I had to do I was like heck nah and just looked it up
The mirror chamber in Majora's Mask can be made easier if Link is wearing the Stone Mask

When OoT first came out and I got stuck on the water temple I almost quit playing altogether. I was literally stuck on that dungeon for weeks and there wasn't any way for me to look up a solution back then so I was just like okay, I guess I'm not finishing this game.
I’m just curious. How did you overcome your frustration?

For me I found the forest temple way more confusing, though less annoying overall. It just felt too overwhelming for me, but water temple felt a lot easier to digest.
Quite a few times here I groaned and said "ohhhh yeah, THAT one!!!" I've never passed the Twilight Princess Sacred Grove statue puzzle without using a guide. I don't think I've ever tried!
6:40 legit i pressing my stylus soo hard on that spot for a while, before I found out by accident.
I guess I was just in the right headspace for Keo Ruug. I'd put Rucco Maag and Ze Kasho ahead of it, personally.
The blocks on ice in the Snowpeak Ruins have nothing on the ones in the cave in Hyrule Field north of Hyrule Castle. Good thing it's just for a Piece of Heart, so non-completionists like myself can skip it.
Omg I remember doing that puzzle in Skyward Sword forever.
9:11 ngl I had a notebook for a lot of puzzles in skyward sword and at then of the game I lost my wii remote at a lan party... But I will finish the game this summer hopefully.

I know it isnt a puzzle, but I recall a lot of players didn't know what to do after catching a reekfish. What stumped me in TP was thawing out Zora's Domain. After reaching the top of the waterfall just for Midan to say, there's nothing more we cam do here, let's leave; I spent five in game hours wandering around Hyrule until I passed close enough to the molten boulder for Midna to pop out and say hey, this thing is still pretty hot.
I've never really had trouble with Zelda puzzles before. Not even the water temple (there's a bomb wall right at the beginning that you swim past that everyone forgets to backtrack to) but I've already decided to move on and return later on (at least) three TOTK shrines and I'm still pretty early on.
Same here. Is it just me or did they really up the difficulty in TOTK compared to BOTW? I'm even struggling to defeat the 'low level' bokoblins and moblins so far. 😅
@@rebeccal7242 I don't know. I had trouble right at the beginning of BOTW before you start getting decent weapons and did here too but I do think they have higher health and tougher frenzy dodge timing in the sequel but don't quote me on that.
@@theriffwriter2194 I was thinking the same! The enemies are smarter and hit harder I reckon. And the Wizzrobes are on steroids I swear 🥲
@@rebeccal7242 once I realized using the opposite magic (fire on ice wizrobes, etc) is an instakill I never fought them any other way. They disintegrate and you only get their weapon so I don't even know if they drop anything else otherwise. If I don't have the means I just run but I do remember having trouble with them when I first started playing BOTW and didn't know yet.
The hardest part In Phantom Hourglass was drawing the triforce on that wall. I only got it to work once so I saved right after it. I could never get it to work again.
I finally did it, I was so happy but for some stupid reason my DS speakers stopped working and I had to restart from before that 💀
OoA Jabu Jaba’s belly is my least favorite dungeon and puzzle in the franchise. The guardian puzzle took me a long time to figure out but Jabu Jabu is one of those dungeons I dread.
omg, idk how long you guys have been doing this, but the background music you added was so weird. for like the first 10 seconds I thought you accidentally added in the wrong music, and then it just kept going so I realized. either leave it quiet or add music from the game. that was so weird lol
If you were embrassed about not being able to quickly and trivially solve the ice block puzzle in LA... Well, good. It's painfully easy with one quick glance. Maybe one room re-entry after a failed experiment at worst.
i thought the phantom hourglass closing ds was obvious given that was a feature of various ds games
but that botw shrine.... i immediately left the shrine to look at the sky (in-game) and it was daytime and i was like..... ill figure this out later- and never went back
The Keo Rugg shrine was hard to me, but my dad had already beaten it…

The puzzle from skyward sword is way too easy I’m able to beat it with in a minute maybe even shorter than that.

Yeah, that ‘look to the stars’ in BOTW definitely had me stumped for a little while.
Worst shrine in the whole game. It wasnt just vauge, it was basically gambling. That puzzle was so unintuitive

All it said was look to the stars. It must have taken me a year to figure it out and I'm usually not dumb about puzzles. One day it finally dawned on me to just count the shapes that were similar. I was making it much more complicated in my mind.
The sacred grove puzzle always gives me a lot difficulty. I am horrible at the type of puzzles

The ones that fail for me are the ones that are just tedious after reaching the “aha” moment. TP water temple and Ice blocks were like that for me. Also isle of songs although I managed to power through it.

Wow you’re a clown. Number 10 water temple. You start bottom to top every room as far as you can. Then raise the water and go bottom to top till you can then change it again from top to bottom. Also side note you never need the water at the top ever.
Number 9 the shrine. Really?? This was hard? Maybe yall weren’t exactly helping yourself out that you can aim in and see the whole puzzle from the other side.
blocks on ice???? All you have to do is push the one closest to the middle to the edge and force the other one to stop the first block into position. The second puzzle you play one block on the outside and keep another bumping into it to set up a guard.

The isle of songs huh? Haven’t played that in forever but I remember that you can do it in one cycle if you paid attention to which switch pulled up which walls.
Sacred grove you push one giant next to you and keep it with you the whole way. Then work from there
