    Good video as always, and thank you guys. To me using a flag to cut or control the light spill or spread on a leko/spotlight mount attachment , nearly defeats the purpose of using this attachment. One of the main reasons i loved the lekos was that i can cut the light without using flags.

    Great stuff Luke and team - much appreciated.
    I believe the halation you noticed with the Godox Mg1200bi and 36 lens was from condensation inside the lens. Andrew lock mentioned it in his review. It should disappear once fully warmed up.
    To my eye the 36 degree Godox lens looked a bit wider than the 36 degree nanlite lens?

      Interesting re condensation. Will check that out. We did have it at 100% for a while. It’s always something! The larger diameter of the glass and COB size may account for the difference?

    I waited so long for this attachment as ive had the regular spotlight mount with all lenses and this seems way more finicky and having more issues. The goals to move faster on set and this doesnt seem to help. Maybe tgwre will be a redesign in the near future. Thank you for the overview.

      Not to walk it back entirely, but this was our first opportunity to play with it; so you got our raw feedback. It’s still a step up from what we have in a number of ways for a number of units and I’m looking forward to using it regularly and will probably have more to say after spending more time with it in the field.

      @@meetthegaffer fair enough, definitely thought about that as you guys went but with all the combined experience in the room I trust those initial takes. I guess it remains to be seen how much of that directly impacts the workflow on a live set

    why is the joleko 800 still so much brighter than everything else?
    Specifically the 1200 LEDs?

    • @meetthegaffer
      @meetthegaffer  Před 6 měsíci

      Point source rather than COB is easier to concentrate through the lenses, but it’s messy. It does its thing, but does not do all things well.

    Aputure should work on a dedicated Ellipsoidal . XT series comparable to Jo-Leeko 800.

    • @meetthegaffer
      @meetthegaffer  Před 6 měsíci

      That could happen if the XT’s take off due to superior dimming and color characteristics. Sort of like a big boy Fiilex G3, right?

    • @gordonsmith33
      @gordonsmith33 Před 6 měsíci +2

      Exactly what I'm thinking. Hopefully now that Aputure has acquired Prolycht they will be brewing up something special.
      I understand the convenience of having a Swiss Army knife capabilities with the bowens mount for smaller kits. But gaffers with bigger trucks have the space for a dedicated LED ellipsoidal . I still have my trusty source fours and jo-leekos on my truck. Can't seem to get rid of them yet.
      Great video. I think I'm going to wait and see what Aputure/Prolycht come up with next before I dump my tungsten/hmi ellipsoidal lamps.

      @@gordonsmith33totally agree.
      In my eyes, an optical projector style fixture is the ultimate tool. Fill a bounce board perfectly, or adjust the size to taste to tweak level of softness very quickly and easily (vs changing a softbox). Put on a narrow beam lens and use it as an intensifier. Project a window pattern, create shafts of light etc etc. Just a really versatile and precise tool.

    Hi Luke,
    It’s your want-a-be Gaffer. I am a big fan of Aputure lights, but I just don’t get these spot light adapters. I absolutely hate them! Why not buy the real thing: “CHAUVET PROFESSIONAL Ovation Rêve E-3 IP Multi-Color LED Ellipsoidal Fixture”. Maybe there is something that I am missing and you can straighten me out on this. For my money I would buy the Ovation!
    Thanks.

      It would be interesting to see how it compares. Perhaps the efficiency of a purpose built unit would make up for the lower wattage ceiling. Have you compared them to a 675 Orion paired with the spotlight max. I used to use series 2 ETC DaylightHD’s, but beyond the rotating barrels they have issues too.

      @@meetthegaffer Hey Luke, No I have not done any testing or comparisons yet, but I am planning on buying one. The original Aputure Spot Light mount was interesting, when they were selling the idea of Buying the Adapter once and having it forever; just keep changing the lights, but the adapter, barrels, and gobo’s are yours forever. But that is not what happened. Each adapter only works with certain lights, and even with lights that it is supposed to work with you get varied results.

    • @meetthegaffer
      @meetthegaffer  Před 2 měsíci +1

      @mathewcoulliette2233 I don’t think it’s fair to say the first Aputure spot mount was touted as something you could use on many different units. It was meant for the 300 series, but got used for the 600 series by many. The spotlight max is actually quite versatile and works well with a fairly wide range of units, allowing you to up the output depending on the size of fixture you use. A purpose built unit like the Chauvet may be good at what it does, but will be held to a particular output, so not exactly an example of a multi-unit adapter, nor a unit that can do the other things a COB can do. You are right that a purpose built unit could be a relief after fighting with spot mounts that can be on the clunky side, but you have to be very happy with what it does well because that is probably all it will do😉

      @@meetthegaffer Hey, Luke. I am always happy to hear your opinion and I always appreciate your valuable time. I guess I am fine with having a special unit instead of a Spot Light Mount. I guess I want one unit designed to do one thing well; and I will have other units that do their jobs well too.
