Wild Hemlock is deadly also and it looks like Queen Anne’s Lace or a carrot going to seed. Hikers 11:47 11:49 have mistakenly eaten the root and many have terrible consequences know the differences
I hate that, too. It was just mown down.
This is Datura , sold at nurseries , the scent is heavenly , it's where the hallucinogen belladonna comes from . I just got 2 at my local nursery , gorgeous plant with huge trumpet flowers/moonflowers, as long as you don't eat it . 8:18
I grew it from seed a couple of years ago and it was beautiful. It was much bigger and covered in blooms and seed pods. It did not spread or return from seed, may have been a different variety of Datura. It was called Devils Trumpet, I also saw it growing at the Botantical Gardens. Yes it is poisonous if you eat any of it.
Yes mine was datura jasminoides , as in jasmine , so intoxicatingly perfumed 🥰
Sorry, not true for me. I purposely grow these in their own patch because they are one of the most gorgeous flowers; watching them quiver and unfurl themselves to a huge glorious white/lilac colored flower around sunset is a joy! And the smell is intoxicating and heavenly! I love them!!!
And the flowers are so fragrant.
They make gravol with this
Here you are pulling it out and I have grown it on purpose. I also grow angel trumpet. I order them from a nursery here in Georgia.
What do you use it for? Thank you.

I had that same plant brought in from manure last year. I let it grow it was about 5 ft. Tall. The flower was a very light purple or blue color. The flower looked kind of like a petunia but bigger. I did pull it up after it died out. Had no idea it was poison.
You were fortunate! It is in the same family as petunia!
Girl get an old thick long sleeved shirt and gloves up to your elbows😮
I know, right?? What was I thinking?
Also VERY hallucinogenic.
I was just going to type the same thing.. gotta get that long sleeved shirt on! Oh my, hope all went well! ✌🏻♥
Your arms. I was so worried. Dear lord.
I would had a hazard mat suit on. lol. I have never heard of this plant before. That is such a dangerous plant.
When living on the farm we used to pull it up by hand so the livestock couldn't eat it. Official sites today say skin irritation/rash but we never had that, but maybe because it smells so bad we washed our hands off after.
We also had this growing in our holding pasture. As children we picked it and even played with the spiky fruit. Never knowing it was poison, we never had any ill effects from it either. Such a beauty when in bloom.
Dear Lady be careful!!!😳 You are so good about doing good research to understand the plants, thank you for the information!❤️
Oh thank you!
Must be poison plant day Miss Kaye. I'm thanking God for the man with a machete who took out the most poison ivy I have ever seen from my border! Peace and Blessings everyone 🌻🏡☕️
Poison ivy kept coming up in my yard. I used a garden cultivator chopping it and a stem got caught and I pulled up a thick 2 ft section of root...so the roots are sneaking way out into my lawn. I didn`t even know there was a nice chicken pen here and I can`t use it because it`s covered in thick vines and leaves.
Datura contains 3 hallucinogenic alkaloids, scopolamine, hyoscamine, and atropine. All widely used in both over the counter, and prescription medications.
So glad you found it! Thank you, for sharing the information.
Beautiful lady, that plant is not as toxic as you saying.
i collected some jimson seed pods and put them into a jar.. a few weeks later some huge larva popped out and started eating the pods
😳
🤣🤣
YIKES
Did you have any reaction at all?
Don't get dead, and please don't be dead. If you develop any symptoms please let us know. This is scary because at first glance it looked like a giant version of this weed? that has been growing next to my petunias, ginger, and cabbages. 😵💫😳😳
It’s in the petunia family!
I’m fine, thanks!
This grew prolifically at a horse boarding barn I was at; I noticed that all the horses walked around it, they left it alone. It got taken out after I told an employee about it. They are stunningly beautiful, though.
My neighbor has horses and cows, and that plant is all over in his farm, so I had asked him if could get some manure from him for a garden bed I was working on, and he hauled some in, and the next season I had several of those plants growing on my property, lol. Thank you for sharing the information
Stands to reason then that I will have more popping up as I got 5 loads!
Several years ago I had some of this in my horse lot. I got rid of it pretty quick! I called it Death Angel Trumpet. Bad stuff. TY, Kaye!
Thank you Kaye! I never was allergic to poison ivy, so never took care in looking out for it. I got poison ivy so bad. My son has scars from poison ivy. It’s nothing to mess with! Stay safe! Wendy❤️🙏🇺🇸
Yes, I've had one really bad bout, and another bad bout. Took the steroid shot the first time. Never again. Just be careful.
Thank you for sharing so that others can be aware of the dangers. I pulled a lot of this plant out of my garden last year. I diligently tried to track it down and dispose of it before it dispersed it’s seeds. This year my achilles heel is going to be Indian Hemp which I need to pull and dispose of before it goes to seed and spreads.
Love the ground cherries and so do our chickens. Of course they should never be eaten green (toxic). They do spread like wildfire though!
Edit: moon flowers are so pretty (the safe kind)
It does say on that seed packet the good moon flowers are also poisonous.
How do your chickens eat it if not green? I don’t know the plant. Does it make a fruit that the chickens eat? Thank you.
We just had some firewood taken out off the side of our driveway. A truck pulled up , 2 guys got out n started loading some up. We have motion light’s which went off but the didn’t care. I have it all rigged up now 😅
Hi Kaye! Talking about weeds, I just found a new channel I love, Willows Green Permaculture, and I think you would enjoy his video "Use the Weeds!" He even talks about poison ivy. Someone in the comments said poison ivy leaf tea is good for you, who knew? The comments section was also interesting and informative I thought. Have a great weekend! ♥️
You are telling the truth about this plant. In high school my son was given seeds from this plant by another student and he ingested them. It caused him to stop breathing and he spent two days in the hospital. This is some scary stuff and I hope parents warn their kids about it because it is deadly.
I found a horse nettle growing in a ditch and my dog grabbed a leaf and I yelled, " No!" He was fine but it s are me haha. God bless!
Thank you for sharing, many of us would not know!
Glad it was helpful!
Please share!
I had heard of this plant but did not know what it looked like and had no idea it's toxic!! Thank you! I'm in the middle of the woods and I'll be looking for it.
Yes, we've had that at our farm and I made sure to get rid of it. Yes, it has a pretty flower, almost looks like a hibiscus flower. Good sleuthing!!
hi kaye 🤗
so glad you found this poison plant and got rid of it.
you're definitely putting in the work. your diligence is, and will continue to, pay off.
ill take some of that rain here in southern california, zone 10b. tfs
Wish I could send you some. It rained all day and got nothing done but the video during a break in rain this AM. Thanks for watching!
Wow, thanks for the heads up... found some behind the chicken coop.
I had a moment of panic 😂 when you said Moon Flower, especially since I planted them this year. I grew them one year and they were beautiful flowers. I have never heard of the poison one by any of the names listed. Take care!
I'm from Virginia born and raised....I live in Hampton....
I can’t bear to see you getting it on you!🥺
That was a dumb move!
😊😁😳THANK YOU!!!💓
I planted some of that before I found out it is toxic....it has beautiful purple/white flowers....when I found out it is toxic...I pulled them up and threw them away. Hope you didn't get any of that on you. Take care Kaye. ❤🐱🐱🐱❤🤠❤
I've had a little headache all day, but otherwise, I think it didn't affect me.
Hello there dear kaye, whow its like a plant from harry potter movie s😊. Its very unusual isn't it but kaye thank goodness you were sensible looking it up. Kaye please be careful always have your arm s a bd hands covered when weeding ,,thank-you for shareing with us all and explained so well .i have never seen one of those before..we do not get poison ivy either,,.i am so happy that your young gardener helped so well for catching up.sounds like just intime for the rain. Kaye i can't believe its June already 😊. Whaw!.lets hope summer lasts a long time for us all.happy Sunday kaye xxxxlove and prayers for you and your delightful cats xxfrom me and my garden girls xxxx.
Oh my, I've seen that plant on my property! I had no idea it was so poisonous.
I have animals and grand boys running around. Thank you for taking the time to post this information. You may have just saved us from a very nasty event.
I've been fighting Canadian Thistle by manually pulling up since I don't wish to spray chemicals.
🎉
Its also a hallucinogenic
I had one of those appear on the edge of my garden two years ago. No idea where it came from. Dug it out, bagged it, and sent to garbage.
That is not going to affect you by touching it. But it will make you trip for a few days if you eat the seeds. When I was about 16, I cracked open 3 of the thorny pods and ate all of the seeds. I was in another dimension for about 4 days
Thank you for the heads up kaye ,love is the key, always 💞
Hermoso y sagrado toloache🙏🏻✨
Growing up in Santa Fe back in the 60's my next door neighbor would plant this up in the front near his porch. I remember on morning waking up to an two ambulances and cops all in front of his house. Come to find out two teens who did not live in our neighborhood had figured out he was growing it, and tried to "experiment" with the plant. They were found hardly breathing the next morning in his front yard. Luckily they survived. It is safe to say the moment all the drama left, he took out those plants and never planted them again. I now live in South Florida now, where we have a similar planted called Brugmansia or Angel's Trumpet. I believe it is related to Datura. It is planted in many yards and landscape. I have read many reports of fatalities from this plant happening in South Florida, so the moment I figured out I had it, I ripped it out.
Wow! Thanks for sharing. Yes, teens think they can get a quick high, and wind up in the ER or the morgue!
Nice to hear you got some good help. Love the informational video ! I have grown the true ‘moonflower’ in the morning glory family, several years back.. Blooming at night with a wonderful sent. Having brilliant, large blooms. It was climbing all over my front deck railing pretty neat.
That's what I was hoping to experience when I planted those seeds, but none came up.
@@Latebloomershow try again with different seed . Grows fairly fast
Eagle Eyed Kaye!! Wow…you caught that!!
Thank you Kaye! Very informative video. Abba bless you
Glad it was helpful! Please share!
Yes I did pass it on!😊
Yes, I’d say it was a bird glad you got rid of it.
Fantastic you’ve got some work done over the past 4 days😁
Wow Kaye - What a dangerous plant growing among your grapes! Pays to survey your gardens every few days to get a jump on plants like this. Thanks so much for your research into this plant and so many others you have mentioned in other videos to educate others. So glad you got 4 good days of weather and had help getting more plants in the ground. Now on to the other gardens in need of your care. Have a blessed weekend..
Rained all day and all I got done was the video. Oh well. Early to bed, and off to see Mother tomorrow, God willing. Thanks, Sue!
Thank You for sharing info on the plant. Excited for you to have accomplished so much in a few short days. Your grapes look amazing. Guessing the grapes will taste delicious.
Thank you kaye. Didn't know about that plant! 😮
Me neither
thanks Kaye!
Oh my gosh!!! Keye I have that plant in my lettuce pot!!! I live in Puerto Rico Rico, maybe one seed came in the lettuce seeds. I’m very thankful for your information 🙏. I have to throw the lettuce??? Blessings… take care 🤗👋
I can't say whether you should get rid of lettuce or not. Do you have a plant app on your phone to be sure? Blessings. LMK what you decide!
Thanks for your reply and I decided to throw everything including the pot; because I’m transplanted and don’t want it being poisoned. I love myself. Thanks again
thanks for sharing the info. great video, its good to know these plants.
I personally love jimson weed. I have it growing in a container. I just don't let it go to seed.
I planted mine a month ago ( moonflowers)
I had one of those pop up in my front bed and fortunately I spotted it right away and yanked it up. Even small, the root was very difficult to get out. I baked it in the black bag in the sun for a day or so before I tossed it in the trash. Same with the Poison Hemlock. It grows everywhere where I live. It's awful!
I have that too along the road and the mower keeps it down. Too bad, cause it is pretty.
And to think garden centers sell this!!
when I was a kid we use to play ,with its frouts ,,by hiting on back of hands
OMG!!! Glad you are okay.
I'm thinking mask too
I'm growing moonflowers.... but that looks like jellymelon I think that's what it's called.... get u a flannel shirt on that's what I wear...
Kaye, You did say your arm touched some of the plant?! When you were cutting it out!? Im hoping you washed your arms before you used your arms to push your hair out of your face! 😬😵💫 Yikes! I hope you'll be okay.
I was thinking the same thing. I wish she would of just went inside to wash her hands and arms, then come back and finish recording. I thank God she's sharing this with all of us, I've never heard or seen this horrible plant before. God bless you 😊
I was thinking the exact same thing!
@@maryfolks9368Its nice to know that you were thinking the same thing, thank you for letting me know. I'm hoping she did go inside and wash her hands and arms before she finished recording and just didn't tell us that??? I pray God keeps you far from that horrible plant!
@@culdesacgrocerygarden I hope she lets us know that she did wash her hands and arms before she did that!
So far I feel fine and did wash arms up to shoulders. I was not cutting it, did not cut it buy any contact can cause a problem.
Don't believe the hype, it's not that bad. Just don't ingest it. As with all living things, like rattlesnakes and black widows, give them space to exist and treat them with respect, not fear. I have multiple varieties of Datura in my area and it shows up now and then on my property. I have pulled it and handled the seed pods with bare hands, still alive. It's a beautiful plant. The flowers are gorgeous and smell amazing. Humans have such a knack for being paranoid and blaming everything else for being dangerous, yet they rarely take the time to honestly inspect our species with the same lens. I would trust this plant to do less harm than 99% of humans.
Yikes ! Miss you😘
I miss you, too!
Where longer gloves and wash your tools, as well even your gloves
gloves went in trash, yes, on tools! Should have had on a long sleeved shirt!
Also called Loco Weed. If horses ate it, it made them crazy
Right! I listed Locoweed onscreen.
Hmm - I've been pulling it for years out of my gardens in IN and KY - guess I'd better grab some gloves . . . it's everywhere in my disturbed land
Yep. Grows all over southern California. Definitely don't want to pick it, boil it into a tea, drink two cups and then end up in the drunk tank in the downtown San Diego jail. Trust me.
oh my gosh! You are lucky you lived! Thanks for sharing!
As kid's we would throw them at each other 😂
I've always heard it called stink weed
I have something that looks similar that gets the spikes but grows on continuous vines and grows up trees, just every where. Not sure what it is.
There was a young gal at my school that got the seeds from some guy and she eat them and all most died
❤❤❤
I have what I thought was a volunteer watermelon plant. I let it do its thing, and it grew straight up. Then I noticed it had wicked spikes all over it. Then it produced fruit that had spikes on it too. It's a mean little bugger. The leaves are identical to a watermelon and the fruit is pale green with dark green stripes. I had three of them and pulled up two but left the other one cuz curiosity..killing the cat and all. Anyone familiar with mine?
I don't know but you could probably do a search "wild plant that looks like watermelon with spikes"
Get rid of water hemlock if you have it. Deadly poison.
I had those plants all over the place around my barn. . I took a hoe to them. They are hard to cut down. I didn't know about the poison.
They do have pretty white flowers and the humming bird moth goes crazy over them.
I would turn on my headlights on the truck just to see the dozen of moth's flying to the flowers. I never broke out by touching them. I guess I got lucky.
Finally kept mowing and they faded away.
I suspect you were cutting down the other moonflower. These have purple flowers.
I'm sure you got your Jimsonweed from the manure. Horses, pigs, no livestock will touch it. I've seen pig lots devoid of plants, except for many 10 foot tall Daturas. The flowers are pretty cool looking, but the plant totally stinks.
If horses won't touch it, why would it be in the manure? Did you ever get it on you?
@@Latebloomershow It's in the manure because it's growing in the pasture the manure is collected from ,and the seeds hitch a ride. I've touched Datura many times - no problems.
Horse neddle!,,very much poisonous, nerve toxicity, and can be deadly not a good idea to be messing with it at all unless you know what you are doing with it all!.
Thank you!
Be carefull while doing such jobs
😇🌹🐾
Ya siéntese señora.... No se necesita guantes para manipular la planta de las cuatro cabezas
Wow! Does this grow in every state?
I believe it came from Central America, so assume it would proliferate in hot humid areas?
Why aren't you wearing long sleeves.
I should have been.
A bit over dramatic. While I wouldn't let my animals graze on it, that's true of several plants. Datura is not going to hurt you if you brush against it. As others have said here, many of us cultivate it. It was actually used by some indigenous cultures in rites of passage, Calm down.
Did you wash your arms and blow your nose.
Washed my arms, and I think I have blown my nose since this morning. Thanks!
Government planes drop off invasive stuff too
Nothing would surprise me that they would do.
Get someone else to get rid of that stuff
❤❤❤
