I’ll say it, I actually really liked sword and shield. I competed in a lot of sports in high school and college, so fighting in a dome with a huge crowd cheering made me feel so hyped and happy
I also really liked sword and shield. Probably mostly because they were my first Pokémon games and I was younger. Although, I found dynamax (and yes, the gyms too!) really cool and the style of the games was appealing to me.

Finally someone who shares my opinion on scarlet and violet, taking out the bugs and the fact the game was rushed to all hell, it realistically is the best direction/outcome the series couldve gone after sword and shield
The technical side of things (graphics, optimization, etc.) is the only flaw keeping S/V from being great, but it's such a HUGE flaw that it's almost impossible to look past IMO.

That is now putting on biased glasses and just choosing to overlook EVERYTHING GOOD the games did for the franchise, just to focus on how "pretty" it is (or I guess "ugly", since you're all bitching about it so much). Everyone who loves the games aren't disregarding the performance side of it. We acknowledge that they fucked up MASSIVELY in releasing it (which blame that on TPC's STUPID AS HELL "must have a Pokemon game release every single year because we need the holiday revenue" mentality). But what we also are doing is acknowledging EVERYTHING ELSE the games have done, and THAT is why we love SV so much. Cherry picking elements and disregarding the rest is NOT how you give criticism towards something. You have to see the WHOLE picture, not just one aspect of it. That's also why we love Legends Arceus so much. Is the game, in essence, very basic and bare-boned? Yes, it absolutely is. Is it still a super fun game that I love going back to constantly despite its simplicity? ABSOLUTELY YES!!! And is why everyone is excited for Legends Z-A and what that game is gonna have in store for us.
@@vgmaster02 I never called the games shit though. The technical flaws are unacceptable and keep S/V from being great, but it's still fun to play. If I were ranking all of the Pokemon games, S/V would be solidly mid-tier, but my point is that it would be high or maybe even top tier if it wasn't for those technical flaws.
I've always said SV are embarrassing, but not bad. The final product we got was good, but given that it's POKEMON, we should have gotten more than we actually got.
@@arandomcommenter0135 Tbh, no game will ever be as embarrassing as Sword and Shield(to the point that I could compare it to Sonic Forces) which is saying alot considering my overall dislike for X/Y with how much of a step back that game was in terms of everything just to accommodate mobile gamers excluding the supertraining. Unlike Scarlet and Violet it did nothing to advance anything with little redeeming qualities excluding how TMs and TR's were handled. Though in my opinion besides some of the characters like Piers, the best thing to come out of that game was the Eternatus fight. At most Scarlet and Violet was just the boiling point of the outdated yearly release date culture TPC keeps enforcing which is pissing everyone off.

Game Freak got rid of the game corner because of PEGI. If the game corner stayed the games would’ve been rated 17+ like the virtual console versions of Gens 1 & 2 where since PEGI changed the way they calculate their ratings about 2009-2010-ish.
And Then They added Microtransactions with Pokemon Unite
Pretty much. Also to add onto this: it's TECHNICALLY not considered gambling if you get SOMETHING with every play and you never have a "loss" where you get nothing at all, even if there's randomness involved. That's why the Pokemon TCG exists, why Pokemon Masters exists, and why features like the Cram-O-Matic that have heavy RNG elements still exist and don't drive up the rating. They feel like gambling, but based on the way the law is written, they're not.
It's so weird though. Gambling IN GAME money that costs nothing in the real world and all of it can be accrued by normal gameplay can't be compared with encouraging the gambling of actual money

THANK YOU FOR SAYING MIMIKYU ISN'T A PIKACLONE! I am so sick of people saying it is a Pikaclone when Togademaru is already the clone of Alola. There's more to what makes something a Pikaclone than looking like Pikachu!
I feel like it's the most and least accurate showcase of the term. Instead of just so happening to look like Pikachu it's actively trying to manufacture Pikachu's success. It's the one trying the most to be Pikachu and I think that's where the disparity lies.
Mimikyu is the devs playing around on the whole Pikaclone thing.
What's more impressiva is that the idea was that it failed in becoming a Pikaclone, but, at the same time, it was the most successful in achieving the Pikaclone objective.
So, I'd say that, while it isn't a Pikaclone by definition, it's effectively a Pikaclone.
I always have to say "my favourite pikaclone is mimikyu *if it counts*" and I wish there was a consensus on this among the fandom because that's so unwieldy to say 😂
Mimikyu is and isn't a Pikaclone. It was (partially) made to poke fun at Pikachu's popularity and how other pikaclones were made to manufacture that same popularity, but even though it's self aware, it's existence still was to achieve that same goal: to manufacture Pikachu's popularity.
Plus, if we aren't counting Mimikyu as a pikaclone, where do we draw the line? Is Marill a pikaclone? Is Pichu a pikaclone?
@@cultofmel While I like to joke around with the "Pikablu" moniker, Marill definitely isn't a Pikaclone. As for Pichu, it ticks all the boxes for what a Pikaclone is. An Electric rodent introduced after Pikachu that shares very similar design quirks. The only problem is it's Pikachu's pre evolution. Unlike the others, it has to look somewhat like Pikachu.
Enough people dislike Masters EX. They just like seeing their characters interact. It's a "watch the story, skip the gameplay" kind of game.

I did both, I loved playing it but after I beat the game the only thing keeping me there was Paulo being my 2nd favorite character ever
(The fact that his edgyness was enough to consume a Pokemon and make him become "The Last Evil" just because I existed made me want to be the best rival ever, which is one of the best feelings of all time)
I deleted masters ex a while ago to save storage on my phone, so now I just watch the events on youtube if they have my favorite characters in them (mostly the paldea crew. still waiting on the day that team star gets added...)
Here's one unpopular opinion:The theory of Venonat and Metapod's evolutions being swapped is COMPLETE BUNK, catepillars become butterflies and moths, but butterflies are the more known comparison and also why would a nat become a butterfly?

Your reasoning for linking Scarlet and Violet more than Sword and Shield makes sense, if you had friends to play with I can totally understand why it would be fun, but I didn't, I was excited by that feature but couldn't take advantage of it as I don't have Online, and couldn't meet up with friends that had the games.
Scarlet & Violet felt so lifeless to me when interacting with the world in comparison to SwSh, the colours felt bland, the world feels empty, the npcs just disappear, the buildings aren't explorable they're just menus.
The gameplay was fine for me with Sw & Sh, but with Scarlet & Violet (though it wasn't as bad as I've seen it be for some) was quite laggy and I experienced a few odd performance issues.
There are definitely good things too, such as updated models on many Pokemon and little improvements such as Blastoise actually using it's water cannons, but they still diminish that as a lot of move animations were made worse such as moves like Pyro Ball and Behemoth Blade, moves from the previous games.
I still liked the games, but they're not as good as the Gen 8 games for these reasons imo, they needed more time in development.

My unpopular opinions: Black&White wasn’t that bad of a series & Goh was a good character who didn’t deserve a lot of the hate he got for doing what most of us do in the games.
I actually kinda like Goh, too. Along with that, Chloe seriously needs a ton of reworking to be better than what we got in Journeys
I think that Black and White opinion is the majority opinion nowadays. If you said that when the games released you would be correct they were hated to an insane degree.

I wish more people could freely express their popular opinions without being attacked. Like, they're just opinions and everyone is entitled to them, and it doesn't mean we can't be friends with people who disagree. I say this as someone who's been attacked for having unpopular opinions in my youtube videos despite not even having 200 subs... some people just take opinions too personally. Like, I love Typhlosion and don't think it's bland at all but I respect your opinion.
Now for my own unpopular Pokemon opinions:
-Cynthia is the Charizard of trainers, she's overrepresented and overhyped for not being THAT much of a challenge, and I'll always resent her for also being the most powerful trainer in the Unova games while making the champions super weak in comparison.
-I don't believe in the Blue's Raticate Dying theory, he just switched it out for better Pokemon.
-I really hate the way a lot of media treats the female protags in comparison to the male ones, in the anime May, Dawn and Serena are all contest trainers instead of serious battlers and in the specials more directly based on the games they only feature the male protagonists. As someone who always plays the female trainer I just wish they would showcase them being badass battlers.
-Aside from no Battle Frontier, ORAS were really good remakes on par with HGSS.
-Leon should have been the main villain in SwSh and Rose should have been a fakeout villain who ended up helping you in the end.

Recently used it in Pokemon Crystal and it did pretty good in my opinion.
Is it fast? No.
Is it strong offensively? No.
But what it does, it does well. If it wasn't taking down a key Pokemon with a surprise crit Razor Leaf, it was crippling them with moves like PoisonPowder (which at times finished them off before my opponent could heal them) or setting up Light Screen to weaken their attacks that if it wasn't there, some of my other Pokemon wouldn't have survived. It was awesome!

2:01 I wouldn't say I don't like Penny, she's alright. What I do have a problem with is the Team Star storyline as a whole. The messages it tries to give are good but the execution falls flat. Firstly, because this is a Pokemon game, we're stuck with the game telling us how bad the bullying got instead of showing us what happened which I feel would be more effective. Secondly, there is literally not a single character who bullied the Team Star members still around. No teachers who were there when it happened. It feels like Pokemon doesn't really want to showcase the aftermath of Team Star's payback and how those people who bullied or ignored them react today. Imagine instead of Clavell being a new director trying to figure out what happened a year ago, he was the person that failed them a year ago and now feels responsible for so many school members possibly at risk of being expelled. It adds more to his character and even adds a couple more layers to it. He wasn't always this goofy director who actively tries to learn more about his students. That only came after the dismissiveness he showed and now sees the consequences of.
Agreed. I actually wanted to see who the bullies were, the teachers at the time, hell even the deputy that destroyed the evidence.
Would have been an interesting game if you did meet them and had to challenge them to clear Team Star's name (or at least a DLC with that if it hadn't been dealt with during the game already)
Penny has more character to her, she is canonically a criminal.
She stole the money that she gives you for doing the team star quests.
And she got forgiven for it after admitting it
I wouldn’t say forgiven, more like opportunity under the guise of punishment. Geeta forces her to upgrade the league’s net security and basically become a white-hat hacker by proxy, even giving Penny an employment offer for the league that she can accept once she graduates. I suppose Geeta felt some blame was on herself too, being the director of the school board, and the whole mess that happened to start Team Star was extremely mishandled by the previous school staff, so perhaps she wanted to make it up to Penny somehow while still upholding the rules.
Penny is a deepish character for pokemon. (which is not hard to achieve)

Here’s my unpopular opinion I’m glad ash got replaced by Liko
When it comes to the Game Corner being missing, blame PEGI. Their ratings rules would greatly bump up the age rating for the games. This lead to the VC versions of the GB games getting their rating being bumped up to to PEGI 12, which is basically the same as the ESRB's T rating. Game Freak didn't want the games to get such an age rating to be bumped up from 3+ to 12+ due to the Game Corner, so they had to remove it from later games.
Honestly out of the 3 friend characters from scarlet and violet penny has the least screen time and we don’t get enough of her so I understand how she is not as fleshed out. I still like her character.
Unpopular opinion of mine is. I think the Galarian forms of the legendary birds from Kanto should have kept their elemental typings instead of their flying typings when only ONE of them flies naturally. Galarian Zapdos can't even fly, Galarian Articuno flies around using psychic powers, and Galarian Moltres is the only one that's actually flying. They are flying type because they are birds and that's literally the only reason they have the flying type when Fighting Electric, Psychic ice, and Dark Fire make perfect sense when looking at their designs.

At the bare minimum, Thunderous Kick and Fiery Wrath should’ve paralyzed and burned respectively. Instead they’re just retyped Fire Lash and spread Dark Pulse. Freezing Glare is the only one that understood the assignment
I completely agree with this. I remember hoping that the Galarian birds would keep their elemental typings, and being disappointed when I found out that they’re all part Flying. It’s especially bad with Zapdos, because that’s one more Pokémon that could’ve been Electric/Fighting before gen 9, and IT DOESN’T EVEN FLY.

I feel like I should mention that Galarian Zapdos CAN fly. It’s described as a poor flier, not flightless, there is a difference. Additionally it can, in fact, learn Fly. So Flying isn’t unjustified. Plus, they’re supposed to be misleading. They got their names for certain traits that, on the surface, are similar to the og birds. This makes even more sense when you consider their Japanese names: Freezer, Thunder, and Fire. Articuno petrifies others, akin to freezing. The sound of Zapdos’s feathers rubbing together as it runs sounds like thunder. And Moltres’s victims look like burned out husks, as though burned by fire.
With that said, Thunderous Kick and Fiery Wrath causing paralysis or burn respectively would’ve been cool though.

People hated BDSP because it was based on a flawed game and not Platinum
But BW and BW2 would be hard to perfect so a BDSP style remake of them wouldn't be too bad
one thing that confused me is that people criticize the chibi artsyle of brilliant diamond and shining pearl meanwhole the links awakening remake did the exact same chibi artstyle and i hear no one complaining when they did

Gen 3-4 has better music than Gen 5, Sure Gen 5 is good but nothing beats the charm of Gen 3 and 4 music also Hoenn's French Horns are the best
Also Gen 4 has the best Bass Sample
Cute Pokémon are WAY better than the "cool" Pokémon
Eevee/Eeveelutions aren't overrated, their popularity is 100% deserved, i mean look at them they're cute and superior
Umbreon is kinda overrated, its design is good but there's better looking Eeveelutions
The Pikaclones and Pichu are better than Pikamid
Also the hottest one of all:

My unpopular opinion is that Alain deserved his Kalos League win. Here’s why:
1. He’d trained and won against multiple Mega Evolutions by that point. He knew how to deal with a Pokémon on Ash’s Greninja’s power level.
2. I’m pretty sure Ash Greninja did NOT have the type advantage, because Mega Charizard X is Fire Dragon.
3. Alain probably trained more with his Charmander than Ash did with Froakie because he had it for longer.
4. If Ash won the Kalos League, the writers probably would’ve found it awkward to continue his character.
5. Alain probably went through a lot emotionally working for Team Flare and probably would’ve been looked down on even more by Lysandre if he lost the league, so his win felt kinda satisfying to me.
I respect y’all’s opinions on this, but I think the Alain slander is a bit much, even almost ten years later 😭
I personally agree. As could as it could be for Ash to win, it wouldn't really work..

I don't think this is you, but there's a certain group of people who say, "opinions can't be wrong" who just mean that they don't want pushback for their harmful or bigoted "opinions" about say, the so-called biological differences between the Races or the "maturity" of young girls. Opinions can TOTALLY be wrong if they're based on wrong information. But tastes are never wrong.

Regarding scarlet and violet, alot of people do generally agree that the game is fun the problem lies in just how unoptimized the games feel and how poorly the switch handles the environment models in the over-world. Also regarding the art style in legends arceus, the problem with the art style is the switch hardware itself as the game looks so much better when emulated properly so if you have a good enough pc try usibg a switch emulator and see how that feels. Opinion time: the anime opening music peaked in the hoenn series. It seems 4kids had been working to improve the music up until that point and the OP themes show the improvement from jhoto and kanto.

Goh isn't hated because he takes the spotlight from Ash, it's that he does what Ash SHOULD have been doing. I.E. catching full evolved Pokemon and having several Pokemon we wanted Ash to have. AND, a lot of his captures were way too easy. He caught a fully evolved Flygon, Golurk, Darmanitan and even Suicune and Regieleki. Captures that should be reserved for only the most powerful and recognized of trainers. Goh is not one of them, he was literally a noob trainer like a few months ago. I agree... Legends Arceus' art style is a huge part of why the graphics look so low quality. Good stylization can make a low graphics game look great, but its also true on the opposite side of the spectrum. If you mess up the stylization it will always look bad no matter what you do.
And I feel like people use the stylization as an excuse for why the graphics are so lackluster, like "duh its a stylization choice, THAT'S why the trees look like that!" It just doesn't hold up imo.

My issue with Goh was the 'Goh quota'. So many minutes of the episodes were taken away by Goh having to catch things. He also just constantly ignored the whole point of battling and catching on the regular and had way too many pokemon to actually be close to any of them. He rubbed me the wrong way in quite a few situations. Goh got a bit better by the end of the series but it felt a bit too little too late to me.

I've heard someone calling the gen 2 starter bad more than calling charizard overrated. At this point i feel likes they are the most hated starters (which is understandable in my opinion)
My headcannon is that mew and mewtwo dont really have beef and that they battle once in a while to prove what legendary is better and in the pokemon movie where they fight its thier first time fighting and the fight was so fun that it was just kind of a hobbie that they enjoy

I think all Paradox Pokémon are either legendary or not legendary, no in between. Koraidon and Miraidon are NOT LEGENDARY POKÉMON THEY ARE JUST CYCLIZAR. But okay, if we are gonna say they are Legendary, then why can’t Scream Tail be? They are both based on regular Pokémon! So what they have different stat totals? Not all legendary Pokémon have the same stat totals, just look at Silvally and Moltres! Or Heatran and Chien-Pao!!! In fact, almost ALL Paradox mons have the same base stats as the Treasures of Ruin, and even HIGHER stats than the Loyal Three!! WHAT THE HECK WHY DO WE CALL THEM LEGENDARY
I feel like the game at least makes them feel more legendary than, say, the legendary birds.

IIRC what people didn’t like about Go/Gou is while the ambition to catch many Pokémon as possible is admirable, it’s the WAY he captures them that irritates them.
Mind you, I have no idea why I haven’t kept up with Journeys, maybe due to being distracted so much.
But from what I know in its beginnings is that Go/Gou captures powerful Pokémon FAR TOO EASILY than he should. Like he could capture a final evolution Pokémon with a single REGULAR pokeball with UNFATHOMABLE accuracy and catch rate and would think the audience would be OKAY with it??
Now, this is from the mindset of those who play the VIDEO GAMES; people who are used to having to BATTLE with their mons before capturing wild ones and understand that it’s not easy doing a pacifist run of capturing. Cause to capture, you have to battle…make them weak enough, you throw the ball and wait to catch with pokeballs that fits the situation. That’s it.
And Go/Gou is making all of it feel INSULTINGLY easy.

The biggest problem with the Gou hate is when people don't just leave it at the actual criticism of what happens in the show and just straight up make stuff up that's not true, like treating Gou as a villain, saying he doesn't care for his Pokémon, they purposely make themselves upset over this fictional character. And there are hypocrites who complain that Gou gets all his Pokémon without battling them and in a single Pokéball, but then ignore when Gou does battle Pokémon before catching them and/or when it takes him multiple Pokéballs to catch them. Also the claim Gou has no flaws, only to complain about his flaws, there are people who don't understand Gou has poor social skills (he didn't want to play with the other kids at his school and his parents were too busy at work to be there for support, also, before seeing Mew, he barely went outside) so when he shows this there are those who think Gou's being a jerk for no reason or a crybaby for no reason.

Anyways my own hot take is that X and Y were good pokemon games, and a good way to transition into 3D. Yeah, some of the animations are dull and the games are easy without too much post game content. But for how many things they added to the series, it’s kinda hard to complain about. They added battle gimmicks other than “look, more pokemon :3”, easy Ev training, clothing customization, DIAGONAL MOVEMENT, convenient internet use, easy friendship bonding, a 3D model of every released pokemon along with an idle animation, more movement options, riding on pokemon, and so much more.
Yeah, the pokemon aren’t as bright compared to generation 5, but at least in terms of animation, it’s more polished because they’re not just manipulating parts of a static image, leaving stray pixels and dis-attached limbs.
I do agree with the whole thing about SV being better games then SwSh. SV is imo a 7/10 that gets brought down to a 5/10 because of poor optimization and bugs, whereas SwSh itself is just a 5/10. Imterestingly my main isaues with the switch games still apply to both (little to do that isnt battling, permanent exp share, basically having the post-game locked behind a pay wall)
I play competitive so here's my hot take...Pokemon should allow you to bring 7-8 Pokemon into battle but you can only use 6... kind of like a side board like other games like card games.

I can assure you that the pokemon masters community do not like the game because of the gacha mechanic, but because of everything else, the characters are handled really well, the story is really cool, the battle system is really enjoyable and the remixes are awesome.
So of you can't look past the gacha system (which by the way is more forgiving that most gacha games) you'll find a love letter to the pokemon franchise.

Yeah, cause having a pack in game that only gets you FOUR multi pulls, which only gets you a QUARTER of the way to spark, whereas for the same price pack in, say, Fire Emblem Heroes, I get enough orbs to get JUST under the summon cost for spark? Yeah, says a lot that Masters EX's gacha system is HEAVILY overpriced for how many gems it takes. Also, the fact they now have a PAID GEM ONLY gacha banner, that ROTATES, and with ZERO indications of said sync pairs being added to the game in other ways? Tell me what other gacha game out there has a banner that is PAID ONLY? That is BEYOND scummy business practice. Also ALSO, Masters EX doesn't allow ONE free pull on their banners. At least FEH gives EVERY banner that drops a free pull option (some getting multiple free pull options, so you could even get lucky and nab multiple 5 stars without spending a single in-game currency on banners). But Masters EX? NOPE! Pay us money to get what you want, and the events we do in game don't even give out enough gems to do even ONE multi pull session.

But thinking more now, my opinion is that Alola will probably be praised in the future. It has a lot of interesting characters, a cool pokedex, enviroment, starters, legendaries, the ultra beasts.. the lore is pretty good too
I like the Z moves a lot, they actually require strategy and can change the destiny of a match. Probably my favorite pokémon mechanic till now
Necrozma is probably one of my favorite pokémon currently, it's a sad pokemon that constantly is in pain and needs light to not feel so pitiful. As you read through it's lore, you see how desperate this thing is, explains why it's catch rate is as low as it is
Lunala is one of my favorite pokémon ever (was my first GX card, i was so excited at the time) and Solgaleo is a pokémon my brother likes a ton. Their fusion forms with Necrozma are super dope and i love the designs
And man, don't even get me STARTED on Ultra Necrozma, just an absolute BEAST
Overall, really good generation, i'm more than willing to know more about it and probably will be my second favorite

I dislike Goh because he just throws pokeballs, like the mobile game. If they just animated him using quick balls, I’d be fine with him. It’s quite grating how he just throws a normal pokeball at a full health pokemon when other characters spend an entire episode to catch one.
I mean, I kinda like Chikorita's line. Granted, it's mainly because among Ash's Johto team, she probably had the most personality and nuance to her character (with Totodile being a close second), but hey.
I agree I also hate Penny especially her design….its funny since I absolutely loved Nemona and Arven. I did feel a bit bad for her when she became Geeta’s government slave at the end of her storyline though.
Although I like penny as a character. I'm working on playing the entire Persona series. Comparing Penny with Futaba is comparing a dolphin with a dinosaur. Futaba is just a more developed character.
Side note my headcanon is that if futaba grows up and has a child then i think futaba will be the best mother ever, i know it's not pokemon headcanon but i enjoyed talking about it
Jrpgs tend to be more complete games that touch on more darker themes.
I mean Penny did commit a crime by stealing BP. But she didn't experience emotional truama and I doubt Pokemon will ever go that dark.

The problem with Lets Go is that's it's just Kanto again especially when we already have Red, Blue and Yellow virtual console. We're tired of Kanto pandering. If Lets Go was in an entirely new region more people would like it
I obsess over characters that I can relate to, like Goh and N. Goh managed to put in words what I couldn't explain for years (the talk with Drizzile) and N is a long story. I feel recognized by these characters and understood, and I hold onto these for dear life. I understand what you mean, I've seen the other side of the fandom that obsesses over characters and it's...concerning, to say the least, but having a character that reflects me brings me so much joy and so I obsess over them

The only of these I think isn't really thought out in my opinion is Goh, I don't necessarily hate him either but its necessary to understand that the reason for Goh's hate is that he did everything too easily, he caught pokemon too easily, he was good at a lot of things from the beggining. There is more to that than what I said but its the only point in this list I feel wasn't as thought out.
