9:30 This "damage negation is multiplicative" just confuses people. If you are already at 90% mitigation, this would push you to 91.5%. You might think, that sucks, it's barely 1.5%. That is just wrong. A 1000 damage unmitigated hit would deal 100 damage on 90% mitigation and 85 damage on 91.5% mitigation. You receive 15% less damage after you use it compared to before using it. % Mitigation is linearly effective, just the number is deceptively smaller, the closer you get to 100%.
Yeah exactly. Even though your negation is higher in the DLC, the base damage everything does to you is so high that this becomes better than in the base game. And it's probably the best PvE tear in the game
11:40 The thing about verdigris discus is that it updates the dmg negation buff it gives you every second you have it equipped. Drinking the winged tear in this case would deactivate the buff from verdigris discus, because the tear would be giving you light load. The discus only procs if you got heavy load or overloaded.
Youre correct about oil soaked tear its a pve killer, its essentially instantly reapplies too so youre getting massive free fire dmg on every close range attack.

The flame-shrouding + oil-soaked tear combo made this the easiest From Software DLC for me. The bosses felt like having less HP than some elite enemies you can encounter. lol
In Base game the blood sucking tear is easy s tier. The extra damage on top of other buffs just melts bosses. I don't even notice I'm losing damage because they're dying so fast on ng+ Edit: just combine it with blasphemous blade and it's just so insane because you spam aow and get that health back and do insane damage. S tier for sure.
Was debating it, but for the DLC, bosses have ridiculous health so its probably not worth to lose your whole healthbar in 1 minute for 20% damage. Unless you are the dodge master, it will deff be a detriment
@Fextralife you don't need to be the dodge master, just put on some heavy armor and/or use some damage negating items and just heal when you would without the tear and it's work out to basically free damage
Opaline is S, like the stamina regen one, having 15% of damage negation to all damage types is useful to any build in any circustance, the best of the base game.
I feel like it's worth noting that the different knot tears can be helpful early game to allow you to access weapons and spells you don't quite have the stats for (for instance if you want to cast heal against a revenant but you don't have 12 faith). The intelligence knot tear in particular can really help in Goldmask quest line by allowing you to cast Law of Regression when stacked with other int boosting talismans and armor.

The charged one also works on the ash roar that turns all moves into charged attacks making it a +15% dmg boost for all attacks while up. I was using this on godskin peeler with ice to get insane ice build up
Yeah, roar builds in pve are insane. Putting braggart's roar on basically any big weapon and using roar medallion, axe talisman, the new two-handed talisman, the charged attack and blood-sucking tears, and off-handing the highland axe can give you something like 2.5x your normal damage with charged heavy attacks? Truly bonkers levels of damage
Someone already mentioned it but the twiggy cracked tear is a game changer. If you die with alot of runes then use your flask then purposefully die again all your runes will come back to you. Its great
Leaden Hard Tear is very good. 10 seconds is a long time to be able to deal basically a crapload of uninterrupted damage. Also, saying that multiplicative damage negation isn't good if you have multiple sources of damage negation is also just lacking a basic understanding of multiplicative numbers. The amount of damage being negated is linear, even if the damage negation number gets smaller. Two sources of 50% negation is 75% negation but it's still reducing the damage you take from 1000 down to 250, rather than one source of 50% negation which only reduces it to 500. That's a huge difference. Each point of negation is as valuable as the last.
Opaline should be s tier now that the DLC is out. Being able to stack this with body buffs, talismans and scadutree blessings will get ya to over 85 percent damage negation for physical and non-physical damage negation. That will keep almost any player alive regardless of skill level through any boss fight.
The value of the Twiggy Cracked Tear (prevent rune loss on death) isn't in stopping runes from dropping, it's in protecting you when you run to get runes that already dropped and/or to recover runes from a boss room if you decide to leave and come back to that boss later. S Tier in my book
Running a 20 vigor glass cannon --> bubble tear & magic cracked straight to S to let spirit ash get aggro without getting 1 shot killed and maximize my Terra Magica, (flask), Rani, Ranni, then night comet spam Melt most if not all of the hp off of any boss with less than 15k hp. Basically if I dodge the initial attack and keep the bubble, I get to do it twice and it's easy mode. Godskin apostle, Godskin Noble, Morgot, Mogh Omen, Godfrey shade.. and a bunch more one and done that way. (of course certain trash mob rooms with almost no way to avoid hits, and freaking lobsters that one shot spit with miles of range, and Knights with great bows can be more dangerous than bosses with this build though :) ).
I think Opaline Hardtear is the best tear in the game until you become good. Being tanky helps you practice and it makes you tanky with the actual build you want to practice. Obviously you survive longer, but more importantly it removes panic and lets you test different ways to dodge certain attacks and test many times per attempt. You learn and improve much faster, at least I do. It is also just strong in general beyond this. Cerulean Hidden Tier doesn't deserve S tier. Could say "S+ (if you're playing mage AND you like cheesing bosses). For most of my playthroughs I'd rate it around E tier, potentially useful for prefight buffing and summoning if I don't use mana flasks, but not much more. Not exactly a very universal tear.
Not gonna lie the crimson tear was crucial to me beating radahn. It helps with the additional 10 percent you get with the crimson amber talisman, which also stacks with the Erdeetree favor of +2
I will forever stand by crimsonburst tear being S tier. It's a tear that rewards your dodging skills. Instead of using a flask at 50% health, regenerate to 80%, take a hit down to 30%, and combined with crimson seed talisman, make much more efficient uses of your flasks. It's amazing for co-op where you don't have aggro by the boss 24/7, but at 55 vigor I have survived so many attacks with 50 health left thanks to the regen.
Are you shitting me Fextra?! Ruptured crystal tear is awesome! I used it to one shot some bosses in my consumable only run. I managed to boost it's damage up to 7k.
What's your source? I don't do much PvP these days, and I've literally never seen anyone use it for anything other than countering nihil. And everywhere I looked it says it doesn't have any other effect than that.
@@dianloubser well, not sure what your experience was/is, but just tested it and it doesn't make any difference agaisnt either RoB nor even MSS ashes of war in PvP. Perhaps you have paired it with a different tear, like the Opaline Hardtear, that reduced the damage and got confused? 🤷
Crimson and Crimsonburst combo basically made my first playthrough. A very quick big heal followed by decent regen. Definitely better stuff out there, but it has uses.
I don't understand why I never see Twiggy used, I always have that on me for exploring, people seem to enjoy losing runes to bs scenarios like platforming

The knot tears are really great for pretending you are a build you are not for a boss fight. Not a faith build but you need fire or lightning to kill a boss? Put the fingerbang tali on with the faith knot tear and you are a paladin now Harry. Didn't anybody ever tell you?
When Shadow of the Erdtree is over, Black Myth Wukong will be next. I read that supposedly you have to beat the boss within a certain time frame in order for it to get to its second face. But we’ll see how that goes!
I dont agree thatvthe Migic crack tear is by far the best, Fire is amazing too with all the spells , special weapons ashes of war (hello Blasphemous Blade, and ordinary ashes of war that can have a fire infusion.
Its deff the best tier for enjoyment and playstyle, but in terms of making the game easier/amazing build synergies, its not as good as the 3 in S tier.

@9:32 are you bad a math or something. being multiplicative is good. Having high negation and then having even more MULTIPLICATIVE NEGATION is even better. Let me give you an example, Suppose you die in 4 hits and the tear gave you 20% negation, then you'd die in 5 hits. 1 extra hit. Now if you had some buff that gave you 50% negation before the tier you'd die in 8 hits, with tier you'd die in 10, 2 extra hits. Now if you had 90% negation with buffs you'd die in 40 hits. With the tear you'd die in 50, 10 extra hits. See the picture.
yeah the dmg negation numbers are sorta deceiving as you might think the difference between like 90% and 95% is insignificant but you can literally take twice as much damage with 95% negation compared to 90%

I love the Twiggy Crack Tear while exploring. It’s so much less stressful when you’re entering a tough area or an area where you have to platform.
This thing carried me through the DLC. I had over 55 million runes and didn’t lose a single one because of this tear.😅
It’s especially useful when your going down to the 3 fingers and going through that platforming hell lol

One very good use of the crimsonwhorl tear is to tank though Metyr’s undodgable beam attack, as the beam deals holy damage

Once I get Greenburst Crystal Tear, it stays equipped. The second slot varies by build.
