Here’s what I think would be cool. Imagine starting out on foot, in the parking lot of a small GA airfield. You walk through the gate and onto the tarmac, where a bush plane awaits you. You pull off the dust cover, remove the various plugs and covers, check the fluids, wiggle the control surfaces, and generally inspect the plane to verify that everyhing is as it should be. You then get in the plane, start it up, taxi to the runway, and take off, headed out into the mountains. You spy a suitable clearing and land the plane. You retrieve your camping gear from the baggage compartment and set up camp. You watch the sun set and turn in for the night, and exit the sim. The next morning you start the sim again and resume your previous session-you’re still at your campsite. You pack everything up, check the plane again, and start it up, taking off from the clearing and flying back to the airfield. There, you land, park the plane, and finish your little bush flight/camping trip. About as close to the real experience as you can get sitting in front of a screen.
Similar scenarios apply to other kinds of flying. The super detailed airports have a purpose if you, as an airline pilot, walk through them to get to your aircraft, rather than just spawning in the cockpit and immediately starting the aircraft and taking to the skies.
Down the road it would be cool to see this as the basis of broader simulations that include aviation and other things. Imagine a forest fire fighting sim where you could be a pilot, but you could also choose to be a smoke jumper, or maybe drive a bulldozer to clear out firebreaks.

I live in Long Beach, CA (down the road from Los Angeles). Not exactly 'out in the sticks' for good Internet access. Have to depend on T-Mobile 5G Internet as other providers deem this corner of LB as not worth investing their infrastructure in. I have one other optional ISP that is more reliable, but costs about three times more. Hard to justify the additional cost just for this reason.
Having used MSFS 2020 since launch, I have found occasional issues downloading data from their servers because the bandwidth demanded does not match what T-Mobile can provide.

If I am concerned, it makes me wonder as to the reality for others less fortunate in their available/consistant/reliable bandwidth capacity. Not an entirely bad direction, but when it means we no longer have shared cockpits, no manned towers, AI that barely works, ALL alongside the loss of hundreds of planes due to the transition, it tends to piss people off. The vast majority of mods will concentrate on proper stuff like aircraft and terrain.
The focus should be on flying. Things like the graphics engine in a flight sim are never going to compare to say an FPS or a driving game for ground detail. Particularly when the entire world is represented. It's just going to end up being a bit clunky.
It's likely a novelty nothing more. It won't add anything serious. The time would have been better spent improving location detail adding planes and missions.
Ships being modelling is fine but wouldn't it have been better to model more things that, you know, fly?!
There are hundreds of features that would have been preferred to walking: Improved vr performance, better weather physics, more detailed cities, towns and landscapes, better sound design, more flying missions, like air racing air shows etc, better helicopters.

I am sort of new to Microsoft Flightsimulator and at the same time I am also a sort of an old veteran. I owned all copies of Microsoft Flightsimulator with the exception of the first one. For me MSFS started with MSFS II. However, I never took a deep dive into MSFS. I just liked to fly around in small aircraft. One of the reasons for this is that Microsoft never gave tools to explore more. Sure, there were flying lessons but that was always on a small Cessna and there was never a transition to airliners. There were bigger airplanes in the sim but there were no in game tools to learn how to fly them.
I really think it would help a lot of people if those tools were included. So, you could start your flying lessons on a Cessna and end those lessons after you know all the details of a big airliner. I really hope something like that is included in the new version. You can make a career in all kinds of expertise's, so I really hope that flight lessons for all these types of planes are included.
