- This Asus looked like a No-POST, but actually just needed a new screen. Problem is, it's glued-in.

33:00 you monster! XD (love your videos btw, very informative and entertaining)
I actually did think he was going to leave us hanging and I did for a second think that you were in fact a monster. 😂
it's fun how people are focused on peel nowdays.. :D i don't give a toss. it's just protection and one more one-use plastich we throw away..
Adam your one of the most underrated CZcams creator in terms of repairs. It's so enjoyable watching you fix the products at the end!
I agree!!!
The mat looks great and colour helps the camera. Nice one Graham.
I can't be the only one that would like a 2 hour red herring search video. It's those deviations and mistakes that teach the most
Thanks for continually taking the time to record and edit these videos. I appreciate them a lot. ❤️
It's nice sometimes, but in this case it appears that it was simply a lack of testing the simplest things first, he noticed the computer turn on then didn't go straight into plugging a display in to confirm, I mean, I don't see how you could waste 2 hours on this otherwise.
It's very easy to overthink what the problem can be.
Thank you! Always love your videos. Mat looks great.
Thank you so much ! Always a pleasure to be with you!
Great Job!!! Makes much fun to watch your videos. Keep on filming.
Very nice man. Nice and simple repair, all went good and clean.
New matt looks fine. Thanks for another interesting video
At this point that intro music is classic and the most relaxing thing ever:>
Love your work :)
Good job Adam !!!
Very professional !!!
I enjoy your videos very much, and your new deskmat works great.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 😃
And i like the teaser with the protective film. 🤣
Keep it up. 👍
Brilliant repair!
Fine peel. Worth the price of admission.
Very smart job Graham.
The brightness is Fine Graham ... It does look more balanced ( Picture Wise ) Cheers for Vid
Love the peel of the film at the end, that was perfect
Very nice desk mat, it looks great.
well done!
I was about to comment about the partial peel ... glad I waited :D :D
All Useful videos thank you very much..
Nice job! I second the other comments saying to try fix the backlight. Obviously it varies from model to model, but once you’ve got inside the display it’s not that hard to find and replace a blown LED COB. The most difficult thing is not getting any dust inside the panel. Always wear rubber gloves so you don’t leave fingerprints.
There’s no harm in practising on a screen that’s defective anyway, so why not give it a go :)
fully agree with the grey color you pointed out.. i like it a bit darker.. ;)
Your mat is perfect!
the new mat is nice!
Hello sir , I’m from Miami Florida and I have been following you for about a 2 years and I love your content and I try so hard to never miss a video ? Also love the fact that from what I see in your post is that almost nothing scares you and you go all in ? Thank you 🙏 and please keep up the great work ?
The screen on my Samsung SM-T970 is showing a perfect picture. Yes a move to a "One Colour Mat" would get rid of the disruptive screen effect.
NB: Remember to FULLY test the touchscreen other than the display before gluing it down! I didn't get lucky one time, and it was a nightmare to dismantle all the work I've just done
Which part of the screen is managed by the touchscreen? I dropped mine and the touchscreen doesn't work anymore. I'd like to dissemble but not sure which part I'm looking to fix.
Good job!
Would have liked to see some autopsy on the old screen. Would be interesting to see, if there was something wrong with the backlight driver on the controller board or if the LEDs them self have gone bad over time.
Maybe just a shorted cap on the booster circuit...
Good content for the podcast!
The iMac screen removal wheels are good for this sort of thing. They don't distort when heat is applied any you can drip isopropyl alcohol on the wheel which wicks into the gap to loosen the adhesive further
Wow tres bon video 👍
Looks visually good to me, and the pattern is a good contrast.
The Mat was a good choice.. Looks nice
Brightness is perfectly in order now.
I’ve done similar repair attempts using a rice bag. Basically just fashion a long piece of fabric or even an old sock and fill it with rice. Tie the end somehow. Then just heat in the microwave for about a minute or so and you have a heating pad. It also works good when you have muscle aches.
Very successful!
Great video as always, new mat looks brilliant and on the plus side tiny laptop screws will be easier to spot. You forgot to tell us that you're a time traveler as you went back to 2021 🤣, I know it's from the lack of CMOS battery though 😉
The new mat looks good! Stay with something lighter, if you do change it.
Keep up the great work!
New mat is 👍👏🏻
I like the matt you have there.
27:30 Depends on the device, on my old xperia phone I tried several cheap pre-cut adhesive strips and a more expensive one, all of them came off, the more expensive one lasted much longer, but the screen would not stay on until I used some b7000 which still hasn't come off.
yes on the solid mid-tone mat. Also, might move softboxes so they don't reflect in the gloss screens when laid flat on bench.
The Brightness is perfect for me not to bright not not bright enough just perfect.
Nice one.
New mat meta looking sharp. It also goes nicely with what I assume is a keycron keyboard
The correct way is not the bags but a heated silicone mat made for removing screens which go up to 100c
what the hell was that all about at 33:36 ? funny is the way you have butchered that one out m8. lol. great video as always although I was looking forward to another bios programing video
The mat works good. Makes me feel like I’m in the woods but color blind. 😁
New mat is great. Just keep using that one :)
your getting too good at this.
Great repair - always edge of the seat viewing when displays are being pried apart. My two cents on the mat repair surface : a single colour would make it easier to find errant screws or tiny parts. Anyway, another great vid.
The mat is fine the way it is. Some laptops use the quick release pull strips to free the panel from the frame but as we know those do not always work all the time.
Could I suggest you rename this part of your channel "Let's Fix Laptops" :) I can't remember the last time I saw a desktop on the channel, I'm not complaining, your content is excellent, keep up the great work and thank you for sharing
good job, not easy to deal with these "glued" stuffs ...I don't think I have enough patience for these nowdays :D
Very good! I managed to reconnect t the display . Now I have a question, how can I make the computer power on using an alternative method or other type of power supply because the by accident the charger plug is broken ?
I think the solid colour would be best but this is certainly an improvement over your old one. Good move!
nice one
With all those screws knocking about, have you ever considered using an ice cube tray to keep them more organised than "just some piles"?
Would really like a video on how to source replacement parts. Recently ordered a replacement fan for a thinkpad. Hope it fits when it arrives from China
Hreat video, i was holding my breath when trying to get the screen off :-) Can i ask you what the audio track you use at 25 min is?
@21:15 Re: displays are (usually) interchangable with same pin:
Question: Have you ever used one of those 30 pin to 40 pin adapter u see on ebay/aliexpress to use inside a laptop? I mean as long as screen/motherboard have same ldvs interface it shouldn't fry right (ymmv)?
I had to remove the vertical screen off my frends apple i-mac to replace the hard drive.
I used a couple of old feeler gauges to slide under the glass.
The gauges that were used for points or sparkplug gapping.
Each gauge set have the rounded end and a selection of thickness.
My old paint stripper gun on the very first setting was just hot enough.
Never stopping in one place.
No damage 😀
Easily after the first heat and first pry point on the screen
you can use adhesive desolvers like 530 sprays or some types of liquids.
Just spray on the outside of the plastic card NOT directly to under the panel.
And no need to more heat.👌❤️
Hi Graham why did you not try to fix lcd screen. Mostly there are fixable and mostly there is just capacitor or fuse shorted on backlight circuit that could you save a lot of money.
I have this exact laptop and the touch screen stopped working for no reason! tried all the software remedies but to no avail, could it be worth opening up the laptop to fiddle with the touchscreen connector ribbons? Great video!
Nice job Graham. How are you surviving the mild Australian weather? 😓😓😓 I hope you are all safe and sound in the heatwave. Stay hydrated!! 👍
Nice one,hw will u Know a bios issue
I have an old Toshiba Laptop that requires a bios reboot Toshiba Code - Toshiba say that the laptop is not supported any more - Is there any way to reprogram the bios IC to revive the laptop ?
Next time you have to try a clean removal like this. LCD removal wire (Tungsten or piano wire) will help a lot to reduce stress while being very effective. Aliexpress and ebay will have listings for this
I think disconnecting the internal display connector doesn't necessarily force the graphics chip to output to the VGA/HDMI ports - it probably depends on the interface: if it's a dumb LVDS cable, I doubt the chip even knows there's a display there or not - it just outputs to that connector anyway, even if a display panel "listens" or not. It probably shows up in dev manager as "standard PnP monitor" or something similar, even if the panel is not there. If it's a DisplayPort (eDP ??), then yes - it might actually know if it's physically there or not and default to the external output...
Modern laptops are eDP, or Embedded Display port, so there is communication and hot-plug detection between the display and motherboard. I'm not sure if all laptops actually implement the detection, but theoretically at least it should make a difference. If nothing else, it reduces the chance of Black Screen - where the laptop _is_ outputting to HDMI, but because it's treating the built-in display as primary, you don't actually get a picture at the login screen, making it hard to tell if you have any output or if windows is punking you.
Good Lightning! The Mat is awesome! Where to buy?
It's a thin mat, not super high quality, but was also cheap. Affiliate Link for Amazon UK - not sure if USA will have it!

You can use suction cup to separate front glass to lcd
2nd or 3rd grey👌, if the top is grey then I see white👍 The voice over makes me want to watch Rimmerworld S6E5 Red Dwarf
What if the sys battery is not able to hold anymore charge and you're unable to get a replacement battery, would it therefore mean that this laptop would cease to function since you would not be able to set the sys clock without it (with other laptops you could use mains for power) ?
It can run it all on the charger, but the clock would reset every time the laptop is unplugged.
Camera on the bottom of the screen? That is first time I see that hehe 😁
Hi Graham wondering if you help me source a replacement Screen for a Dell Inspiron 7506 2 in 1 laptop
I would search ebay for "inspiron 7506 lcd"
If the results are bad, try the model number of the LCD that's come out of the device and add "touch" to the end. A quick search, it sounds like "b156zat01.0 touch" is what you want.
I worked on a specter 360 I think it was called and the problem I found out was every time you moved the screen the computer restarted, any idea how that one happend? I told them it wouldn't do it if they didn't mess with the screen. You ever see that?
Cant you check if the backlight can get fixed ? Maybe it is just a bad connection or cable.
First thing I do is connect external screen, and try key combinations. Also acer V5-572P have screen glued to touch panel and panel glued to back cover. and that's insane.
Hi, I’ve same issue as no image when powered on. Mine is Asus z240IC H170 AIO. I don’t know what I did wrong. It worked fine before I opened up to replace USB Huib which located under the MB. I didn’t do anything to the MB. Just removed screws and took it out. Please help… tym in advance and hope to hear back from you soon.
I have an issue where only get display when you first turn on or jump to bios. If you let it continue to boot, it flickers slightly a few times, black screen, and only works on hdmi output after that. The voltage on the fuse/capacitor for the ribbon to the mainboard registers 5v at all times, unlike the 19v in your case.
I guess no replies on this channel. awesome
Hello Adamant IT, I got a similar problem with no power to the display at all. I tried the first versions. I do have a bios battery that I took out and put it back after 15 minutes. When I turn the laptop on the cooler works. The DVD writer works the power button led works, the charging led works and another led next to the charging led that is powering on when I power the laptop on works. It was all fine but I got to this problem after I changed the thermal paste. If you got any ideea to advise me on or maybe I can send my laptop over to you to have a look and make a video on it as well. I can pay for the deliveries and for the fix. I also tried the hdmi with and without the display connection. I took everything apart and put back together. I tried with different rams and different hard drives. I tried with different network card and different speakers. Don't know what to try anymore. I hope you can help save my laptop. It's a Lenovo z51-70.
Mat looks fine. You can get a true middle grey mat to help with exposure. True middle grey 18% that is used in photography. Logitech Studio Series Desk Mat (Mid Gray) #956-000047. Not a certified 18% grey but this should work.
Edit: sorry I missed the part where you plugged in an HDMI to get output, ugh I shouldn't watch these while I'm working.
great video as always, just wondering if plugging an external monitor was an option to see if the laptop was POSTing? Since it appears it was turning on in the beginning just nothing on the display itself.
@@TheSpotify95 Sorry I missed that part, thanks for pointing it out. I had the video playing while I was working so I missed that part.
So buy correct panel, when you get it check if panel and touch (depends on laptop) works before any assembly or whatever. If works, just assemble and do everything carefully, take your time.
nice
This guy has a lot of experience, you recognize this by a lot of things he is saying
Hello, I dropped my laptop and now the touchscreen doesn't work. Any ideas what the problem could be? Everything else is working fine.
You said no backlight could be caused by 3 different causes, but actually it is 4. The LVDS cable could be not properly seated in the LCD connector, thus having no backlight, it happens all the time, even if the cable has been properly secured with tape.
That mat does show all fifty shades of gray. 🤓
Did you stick the cover back on JUST to annoy someone? Cuz if it was for that, I salute you.
my laptop also uses the system battery to keep time, thought the no post was the ram issue but it was the screen
thankfully not the ram because the ram is non-upgradeable and is soldered to the board
This one did have an extra slot, but yes, one module soldered in 😔
imagine at the end as he was peeling off that plastic sheet, some static charge had built up on it and breaks something 🤣
You say that, modern MacBook/air/pro screens have a nasty habbit of washing out if you pull the cellophane off too fast. They'll come-good after a minute or two, but yea, I think that's static. Scary when it happens on a £250 display assembly you just bought!
I had apparently the same issue with an old dell. Decided not to replace screen and keep the laptop for spare parts. When disassembling it I found that the screen cable had not been correctly inserted from the factory. Pushed it in correctly and it now works again. Glad I didn't buy the overpriced replacement screen.
Looks a bit of a faff cutting that double sided tape, have you tried Bohning fletching tape it is narrower, available at all good Archery stores....and online of course.
I haven't finished watching the video but I'd like to say that when one disconnects the battery, it's always good to try to turn it on, so all capacitors are discharged. Typically it's going to be fine, but you never know 😅
hey, you finally got a torch and found out what I expected.... should have done that one before you even opened the unit...lol hate to tell you shit, but I have been servicing laptops for about 30 years now
i thought you are gonna try to repair backlight.
Mat is good, but why don't you have something to put screws in so you don't lose them? The square backlights are distracting
