    In this video, we look at how to set up an elevon mix in ETHOS. This is actually a pretty simple thing to do. But, it is kind of hidden in plain sight in the new model wizard. So this quick video will show you how to get the elevons working, and how to get them moving in the right directions.

    Hey, just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your videos. These are my go-to when I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how Ethos works. All my friends who use Ethos love your channel. Really good stuff. How you figured all of this out on your own blows my mind.

    Hi Darren, I hope FRSKY appreciate what an ambassador you are for Ethos. Seems you are almost alone in doing these tutorials. I've finally bought the X20 and moved on from OTX. Thanks E

      Thanks Eoin. I hope you enjoy the transmitter.
      I really don’t see myself that way. I just see it like I have the transmitters, so if I can help people out with them, that’s great. If the products were bad, I certainly wouldn’t be doing this 🤣 But I genuinely think they are great transmitters, and ETHOS is a good firmware.

      Can I suggest a topic for a future vid?
      The Freewing Saab Gripem has canards. Could you do 2 versions. First being simply pitch only. The second being pitch and roll.
      Thanks E

    can you do a demo of setting a 4 servo flying wing up.. with all working as ailerons and elevons etc

    • @MrD
      @MrD  Před rokem

      Sure. I’ll have a video out soon. The inboard elevons would have less throw than the outboard.

    Darren, will you do a kind of long time review after 6 or 12 months about the radio in general and its progress software wise and where you do see the radio in the future, where it is ahead and where behind.
    A friend of mine who had emigrated had very mixed experiences but loves the radio after some major improvements.

    • @MrD
      @MrD  Před 2 lety +1

      Sure. That sounds like a great idea. I think I will give it a little more time as there are some big changes in ETHOS 1.1

    You made it simple to fix my elevon issues on my reptile dragon plank and will be watching your videos for my reptile 800. I haven’t gone through all your videos yet but how do I select a motor for a wing. I’ve been flying quads for 5 years and finally got the plank finished that I’ve had for a year. I’m using motors from my quads along with the esc for now. Thanks

    • @MrD
      @MrD  Před 2 lety

      Hi Dan, thanks for watching.
      The short answer is you don't. You choose the prop you want to use and the pack that you're using. Then find a motor that will work with that combo, using tools like eCalc.
      But for specific models, people will always have recommendations. For the S800, people have run them on anything from 2205 up. Personally, I'd go for a T-Motor F80 Pro 1900KV on 4S, with a 7x5 APC-e prop. You'd need the extension motor plate for that option. But it's always recommended on an S800 anyway. When using quad ESCs, always oversize them in planes. They're designed to sit under spinning props, so get lots of airflow. Inside a plane, they can build up heat pretty quickly. And with no heatsink, they will let go. I would also be worth adding a cap to the ESC, to reduce the chance of noise in the video and spikes.

    Hi Darren, new to ethos so been following your videos, I’m struggling with one minor bit, I’ve set up flaperons on a slider as i don’t have (flaps)
    Ive used a mix on the pre setup side Ail/eve mix, when i use the slider the ailerons go in the same direction but i need the elevator to go up rather than down, i alter the weight of the elevator but then this alters the neutral position of the elevator when the slider goes back to to the top
    ( i use this function on landing to help bleed off speed on landings and the elevator lifts the nose while i apply the flaps)

    • @MrD
      @MrD  Před 2 lety

      Sorry, I'm a bit confused. This is a video about elevons. You can't use flaperons on an elevon setup. The only work on airplanes with tails.
      Also, I don't follow how you've set this up. I don't see an ail => ele mixer. Or have you just used Free Mixes? I would set up a free mix as the flaperon input, with a curve from 0 to 100. That can output to channel 64 (any that is out of range and unsed). I would then set up a free mix using Ch 64 as the source, and output to the aileron channels. The another free mix for the elevator compensation, using Ch 64 for the input, and outputting to the elevator channel. The weights and reversals will be on the last 2 (flaperon to aileron and flaperon to elevator) free mixes. Slows can go on the original flaperons input mix.

    Hi Darren, thanks for all your videos ! My question is : how can i make elevons with up and down on the left stick and right and left with the right stick on Tandem x20 please? Many thanks !

    • @MrD
      @MrD  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks Dany. You need to change the mode of the transmitter. I believe they all ship as Mode 2. It sounds like you use Mode 1, with the throttle on the right.

    Hello, I did it with a TDSR 12 receiver and I did the same as you did in the video and it works perfectly, but the problem is when I activate the gyro in delta wing, the elevons stop working. Do you have any idea what could be happening?

    • @MrD
      @MrD  Před 3 měsíci

      Did you perform the self test properly and move all the control surfaces to the extremes at high rates?

      @@MrD Yes, I just created a new model as you did in the Video without having touched any rate and when the setup finished I did the Self check

    hi what if delta wing with a rudder? Like ME 163 plane

    • @MrD
      @MrD  Před rokem

      You can add a rudder mix to have that. But, this setup won't work on FrSky stabilised receivers.

    Yea just bought this @ joe nall and elevons not working but I have a spectrum rx. My elevons don't seem to be working together. Pull on elevator and one side works, use Aleron and the other side works. WTF?

      It sounds like you don’t have the correct mixer set up. Did you select tail = none in the setup wizard?
