  • This radio was used by the German Army during the late 90s. It is made in Israel, and its build quality its second to none. However it was a very complex radio. It has a lot of IC and electronics and therefore it made it very expensive to repair for the Bundeswehr to keep in service.
It has 20W of power and an antenna tuner that works both on the BNC and the whip antenna which is very handy. Its voice processor enables to be heard even in very poor conditions, and therefore you can still make contacts in contest conditions with only 20W.
It is a very easy radio to operate. The most interesting thing on this radio is that it has a lot community of individuals that still develop firmware updates to make this radio even more useful for the amateur use: groups.io/g/PR...

Great demo. Not enough PRC-2200 content on the Tube.

It is easy to connect a psu to the battery pins using RCA connectors

Thanks, I used a spade connector instead, before I found out RCA also works.

Beautiful. Can you take off the whip section from the tuner?

Yes. It is clipped and then fixed with 4 screws. Once taken off the area is flat

Dear OM, Thank you for the great review which I used to take the decision to buy one. As I think out of your CZcams Channel you have a deep knowledge on old military radios, if you don´t mind I would like to ask a question which I can´t solve out of the manuals I own (The german "Technische Dienst Vorschrift" and the english priducers´manual out of 1992)
I´m interested to use the radio in Automatik Link Exchange (ALE) in Ham Radio.
What I can´t figure out is the use of the Dipole Antenna in this "Bandhopping" procedure. While the Whip Antenna is used for all bands via the Coupler 8Tuner) the original wire dipole (without 1:1 balun) has to be hang up according to the desired wavelength to use the specific lenght of wire where it is marled by the frequency tags. So it is used as resonant antenna. But how does this work when in ALE the bands are changed automatically due to best propagation? Is the coupler capable to match the dipole which is hang out for ie 40m for all bands stored in the frequency tables? Do you know this?
Thank you and best wishes; 73 de OE1ROF

Hi! Very few military radios tune anything but the whip antenna. This one isn’t the case. The ATU matches instantly any antenna connected to the bnc rear connector. It doesn’t even make a sound. Beware to use it with common sense. A unun 9:1 will help
      I hope I helped
The fron bnc is out of the tuning circuit. You have to select the antenna source on the menu

@@Radiogenes Thanks a lot for your information! So my common sense says "Use an "End Fed Random Wire" Antenna if you want ALE, or calculate which Bands are "harmonic" to tune when using a dipole set up for x, then there are some other bands that could be matched by the tuner and program this into the frequency list.
