I see I'm not the only person with a pair of these. I collect radios, was a Commo operator in the Army so of course I collect military radios. Nice radios. For those interested in ALE there are free programs to do it. I use ION2G. It's a free program you can download that allows you to use ALE on most modern transceivers. Was just using it earlier this evening with a Yaesu FTDX010, with CatTouch connected to the radio of course. 🙂 Mike KC3OSD
I forgot I had seen software for ALE. Thanks for reminding me. I'm aware there are some set standards for ALE & not sure what standard the PRC-2200 has - just not looked into that part yet. I have a pair of PRC-6020 coming. One is faulty. They are the later version of PRC-2200 and I did read some of the EECM methods are compatible with these PRC-2200s. So looking forward to playing around with that for sure. I'd love to see a video of your FTdx10 and ALE software in action Mike. 73 & all the best for the festive season de Chris ZL1CVD
@@ZL1CVD The ION2G program is very easy to use. The setup is as easy as WSJT or other programs that can control your radio. One thing I like about the ION2G program is it does not wear out the radios internal antenna tuner relays. I had tried another ALE program once and as it scanned through the frequencies every time it changed frequency the tuner would switch to the saved settings for that band. It sounded like a sewing machine inside the radio. The ION2G program puts the radio into split mode. It uses VFO B for receive and has the tuner disabled. When you transmit it switches to VFO A. The frequencies are already set in ION2G, it couldn't be simpler to use. Josh of Ham Radio Crash Course here on CZcams did a great video on it. From setup which is easy to operating on air. czcams.com/users/liveVuxhKZjSWOo?feature=shared Mike KC3OSD
Fantastic demo Chris. Thanks for taking the time to describe and sharing your findings.
Great Video Chris
Interesting video Chris!
Thanks John & all the best for the festive season mate!
Awesome stuff, just so heavy
Nice work. Seems I have to drag out my 2200 and test it on encode with mate who has similar fw.
A chance to play radio is always good in my books!
Cool! I wish I did that when I had two PRC2200 😂
