@Dirk Diggler Yeah, well, maybe in big cities where pajis are slowly dominating, but outside? I can imagine all those 'rural' kids, impatiently poking ponds of water, checking the ice, after first days of negative temps :)
I'm from Netherlands, and all kids over here are doing exactly this. Costs of living are higher, we're not hockey country, but have that 'ice mania' as well.

soccer not violent?... I wish i played that version of soccer! But yea I grew up playing street hockey, ice hockey, ... I can't do that anymore. street hockey - not allowed, ice hockey - no time/money, and the weather doesn't get cold enough to freeze over our local pond anymore.

I, long ago, turned my attention to other more worthwhile diversions.
Can we have just way more of this please? 20min, 30min, an hour, I would love to see even more in depth videos on training regimes, diet etc Brandon is a great host: charismatic and really knowledgeable about the subject. Keep up the good work!

Both are actually pretty simple. Lol. The gym workout is pretty basic lower body explosive movements, with emphasis on being conscious of the form, and trunk/torso rotation exercises. Check out videos on NHLer off-season workout and you will see that those are much more intense. The on-ice drill is pretty elementary stuff too. Just need to know how to skate forward, hockey stop, and shoot, though she was using a snap shot, so it's a bit more advanced, but you can use whatever shot you want. And...she was just taking casual strides too, lol.
She was on ice since her 4. So, like 20ish years of experience.

A big thank you to all involved in the making of the video, an especially big thanks to Rebecca for her time. Very interesting video to get an inside look to see what types of specific exercises the olympic athletes are using as I'm always looking to diversify and modify my own training methods.

Definitely lighter than what he's used to! However the exercises were largely plyo, so it was more about explosive power versus just weight lifting. Sorta like crossfit.

I've always wanted to learn how to play hockey. I really want to try getting into it. I already love ice skating and floor hockey so how hard can it be?

Heheh. There’s a LOT of depth to hockey skating skills but there’s nothing more satisfying than accomplishing improvement in something difficult. It’s never too late to start!
10 years ago, I taught myself how to skate (well, I could go forward and that was about it) by going to public skating 3x/week for about a year. Then I signed up for some adult hockey development camps that my city offered, took a few of those and then signed up for my first beginner rec game. Stepped onto that ice and have never looked back. Now I play hockey 3-4x a week at an advanced intermediate level. It's soooo much fun.
Here's my advice (I don't know your skating level so I'm just going to assume the basic).
1) Learn how to stop/cross cuts and tight turns. (Either at public skating or skating classes).
2) Take adult hockey development classes (check your city website and around the arena's)
3) Sign up for a beginner hockey game (check the arena's/google/kijiji). Play forward (defense is the hardest as you have to know how to skate backwards and transition quickly)
4) Keep taking skating classes/practicing advanced moves

if anyone knows what weight that medicine ball was (kg or ibs all i saw was a 10) I'd love to know. Trying to create a workout using that exercise and it seems like that weight would be good for me at 6'1, 185ibs.

I hate that the comments section is all about the guy and Rebecca dating and shitting on women's hockey the us national women's team has had multiple gold medals while the men's team is struggling to get one one (lmao not fact checked just exaggerated) neither one is better but the nwhl definitely doesn't lose to the nhl
aceof hearts if it's the same as football then the men's team is way better. In Germany the national women's Team (best Team in Europe) once played the u16 , meaning under 16 of some city from Schalke. It went 17-0. For the u16. They got crushed by pubescent boys who go to school and do it as their hobby ( though they definitely dedicate a lot of time). Men's sport is just way more competitive, it's the same reason why there's women's chess and men's chess, why in Esports there are no women.

OMG, I didn't skate that bad when I first stepped on the ice at 5 wearing my Rally Bobby Orr skates. I don't care how big or fit you are, it won't help you with skating one bit.
Not to be that guy but having a "challenge" between an Olympic Gold Medal Hockey player vs a guy who can't skate well......not really a fair challenge. The hockey player vs figure skater was fair.
Kind of like pitting a combat jet fighter pilot vs Mario Andretti.....in a plane.
That's why most of the video was in the gym. Only the last little bit was on skates.
