Thereâs a part of me that wants to wear very classic and neutral (my usual style and what Iâm more comfortable in) but thereâs also a part of me that wants to wear some crazy prints and accessories just for the fun of it.
This is like a master class in classic dressing in less than ten minutes. So helpful and great advice for timeless yet modern looks. The video presentation visuals including details such as subtitles are also well-chosen and somehow calming and reassuring to watch. Keep it coming -- your viewers are enjoying immensely your more-frequent and right on-topic videos!
1. Move to a cooler climate, away from the tropical heat and humidity 2. Lose 40 pounds
Itâs so much easier to put together a stylish wardrobe if you have a need for a long trench coat or sweaters, Neither of which you need,in the southern United States.
@@peytonplace3335 underrated comment
@@peytonplace3335 too cold is also not great, because you always need so many layers, that it's hard to create outfits that look good and will also keep you warm. Something I struggle with daily đ„Č
@@Karina-hw3dd I thought the same thing, but then I discovered Erin Busbeeâs CZcams channel. She has great videos on how to layer up in cold climates, but still look fashionable, not frumpy. Look up her âDonât Look Frumpyâ video.
What are your favorite blue denim jeans ? Thanks!
I am in my late 70s, and your advice is so right!!! I have classic jackets in my wardrobe that has now come back into fashion..
Blazer, woollen check jacket, trench jacket... Brilliant. Personally I donât think they ever go out of fashion... Just love your great advice!!
I loved this! I have only recently began shopping secondhand and Iâm hooked. On my last outing, I was able to find a silk button down top and a cashmere turtleneck for $10 each, a wool Rag & Bone sweater for $6, a Northface winter parka for $25, and AG jeans for $6. I used to waste so much money on fast fashion but now when I look on my wardrobe, Iâm truly excited over each piece Iâve curated.
I totally agree with you.....thrift shopping is the way to go đ€
This how I do it, as well! Itâs so satisfying! đ
Donât save whatâs left after spending, but spend whatâs left after saving - W .Buffettđ
Brilliant!
Paisley, plaids, and "old fashioned" florals in classic colors are also good prints to add via a scarf or a blouse, to add some interest to a minimalist outfit.
I am so glad to have found someone who enjoys the same colours as I do but doesnt look like all these other influencers wearing neutrals. I was told MY ENTIRE LIFE to "wear more colour" and I allowed myself to be bullied into buying colourful clothes that are just sitting in my wardrobe getting no use.
And this is why youâre awesome. Good, solid, practical advice, without any faff!! â€ïž
I have to agree 100% đ€
Absolutely, couldn't agree with you more.
You really do have an impeccable style.
Excellent. Love your style. But I love a floral dress, either with plimsoles & straw bag for summer or boots, tights and leather jacket for cooler months. Agree on sunglasses !
I use old sweaters / cardigans and old cushions
to pad out my bags, less messy than paper etc.
Nice easy advice, thank you.
1. classic & mininal colour palette
Camel-black, tan-navy, black-white, beige-black 2:38
2. caring of ur clothes & accessories
3. less is more : 3 colour per outfit
4. sunglasses
5. tailoring
And that is what I never did! Pad my handbags when storing and now theyâve creased. And that is so discouraging. Lesson learned though. Thank you for all the great tips.
Agree, stylish as always! 'Others' bung on some dubious items, telling us it's the next big thing, then you notice that several other vloggers are pushing the same pieceđOur Emma, knows her stuff!đ
Would say I have a fairly neutral palette, with the one off instance of red. Find it works equally well with black and navy, and is a really versatile and sexy colour to have in your wardrobe!
My great aunt always said everything needs a touch of red. I think she is that Cardinal that sits outside my window in the dead of winter. I wore red shoes today and thought of her.
Exactly what I needed to see/hear Emma! Thank you! I feel like Iâve forgotten how to dress since lockdown, I feel like Iâve lost my style and Iâve been living in sweats to WFH. This is the help I need đđđđŒđ
I agree but with age too much of a black colour can make you look sad and tired. Also you need to check if your skin tone type is warm or cool then you wear warm blue or cold navy blue, warm red or dark cool red.
Thank you for the heads up on the protector spray i never thought of using it on bags and my Fossil are 100% leather so worth the extra TLC . your past video about your bobbler changed my life and i will be used soon when i start to wear my jumpers x
Iâm with you Emma as long as you have the right accessories you can change an outfit completely! đđ»
This is so helpful! I just realized how many of your outfits on Pinterest I have saved, so happy I found your channel đ€
I would love to know how to look chic when itâs 115° outside. And you donât go outside very often .
I live in the California desert where itâs very hot and weâre having a extremely hot summer. I wear dresses mostly because thatâs all thatâs comfortable. I love your videos !
exactly!
All quarantine I have been watching a lot of fashion statement/tips videos and you are my favorite 100%!
Totally random, but ehen this whole covid thing is over, I'd love to see you take a subscriber shopping and give them a make-over on a budget. That'll be fun to watch!
Iâd love that too! Take a mid budget subscriber and recreate some key looks.
This is such a brilliant video - thanks Emma! đ
Would you consider doing a video on minimal chic dressing for an evening occasion (date night, dinner with the girls)?
I know I would personally find this useful as I think evening wear can be much harder to find the pieces that are chic/expensive/minimal looking . đ§
Excellent points....I'm really loving the minimal palette and suddenly feel the need to go through my closet again and downsize more! I could totally adopt the basic colors rule!!
Morning joga - checked, warm water with lemon and honey - checked, video from Emma - checked checked checked !!! â„ïžâ„ïžâ„ïž
This is so incredibly helpful! Thank you for the tips and suggestions Emma.
Love this, Emma. Excellent advice, well explained, beautiful examples. I kept pausing the video to look at the inserted stills, just so so good. Also: really appreciate that there's no hard sell here (you never do that anyway, just seen it a lot lately on some other channels and it's so grating). Thank you :D xo
Hi Emma! I agree with your points for a chic look and I would add that good posture and good manners are also essential to looking classy and put together. Also, expensive items may look effortlessly chic because of better tailoring and fabric, but only if they are well-cared for, as you mentioned. Designer handbags, shoes or coats will look cheap if they are worn out. What's the point of holding onto a tattered coat or bag even if it's designer, just for the sake of it? One thing I have been trying to do lately is look carefully at my wardrobe items and assess what I have before rushing to buy new ones. I donate what no longer fits or suits my style, which makes me happier and gives my wardrobe more room. Smart combinations of outfits are also the way to go, as you show in your videos. A different handbag or a pair of shoes and jewellery will transform any look. Btw thank you for continuing with your videos đ Please do more vlogs!!!
Love it! Iâm always very neutral but I LOVE that three colour rule, definitely going to be sticking to that one from now on!!
You have impeccable taste and style in putting outfits together, best put together clothing capsule I have seen anywhere, thanks!
Tip for trainers: A simple way to change your look is to buy shoelaces in different colours! When I wear a red lipstick I use red shoelaces etc.
Great video, Emma. Solid advice, lots of fabulous examples, and not taking it all too seriously. So glad to have you back! đ
Why do I always get excited when one of your videos come out? Because they are awesome, straight to the point, useful and I just love your personality âșïž So nice to see you back on youtube although I'm a big fan of your 2 IGs . Best 9 minutes of my day! Have great day and regards from Belgium đ§đȘ
speaking of minimalism, please do a closet declutter video if youve been planning to do one!
Great tips Emma!!! So glad I found your channel. I'm just beginning my wardrobe decluttering and embracing a more minimalistic approach to my style. I cleaned out my entire closet yesterday and am looking forward to getting a few more classic pieces like blazers and cashmere sweaters (or jumpers as you call them). I recently retired and am passing a lot of my former work clothes on to ladies that can get some use out of them. I'll probably binge watch a lot of your videos today.
All excellent tips. Thank you. I have two pairs of sunglasses I flip flop around. Large, round black ones and gold aviator; both Ray Ban with polarized lenses and classically chic.
I once heard that to look chic dress in the colours a mercedes comes in. Black, white, Grey, Beige, Navy and sometimes Red
Regarding missing buttons, if it is a high end garment some companies will sell you buttons if you contact them.
Or you take them into the shop and theyâll retouch it for free if itâs minor.
Iâm addicted to pattern. I create a lot of problems for myself when Iâm trying to pull an outfit together... I probably need to have a little clear out and then a basics/block colour shop up when (Melbourne) lockdown is over.
i know Im asking randomly but does anybody know of a tool to get back into an instagram account?
I was dumb forgot my login password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me!
@Bode Lian Instablaster :)
@Camdyn Zaid I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm trying it out now.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Camdyn Zaid It worked and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much you saved my account :D
@Bode Lian happy to help :D
Wonderful, wonderful advice for always staying classy. Love your vibe of stylish, simply chic. Appreciate you so much!
Thanks for all those tips thatâs very helpful as always ! Oh god I miss your videos sooo much you have no idea! Canât wait to see you and Simon together in a video !! Have a good day !
I really think green looks good on youđ specifically dark green like leaves
Your sense of style is perfection!
This is how I've always dressed. It's easy and looks classic and classy. LOVE watching you
The most useful video â€ïž I love it and I am so happy that you come back!!â€ïž
Totally understand that you're doing what is best for you at the moment and that is the most important! But I am definitely looking forward to future vlogs whenever that may be! They were always my fave vids x
One of the few creators I donât skip the intro lol. I love your voice Emma!
Love minimalist styling. It truly is classy and timeless. I have about 4 patterned items in my entire wardrobe. The one thing I need to be careful with though is too much black. I am âcooling offâ as I get older and have to limit it a little or consign it to skirts and pants. On the upside, off whites and soft camels, along with a sneaky sky blue give me some lift
Love your style. So glad that youâre backâ€ïž
I like to pad my bags with a custom-size roll of bubble wrap I get plenty of pieces from online shopping deliveries). Itâs just one single piece of material that way, and I hate transferring, and dropping, all those separate pieces of tissue pieces. I live in a dry climate, so itâs fine, but for bags that get moist, Iâd use paper to absorb the moisture, then change it out if it gets damp.đ
Yes!!! Thank you for posting this video - really helpful tips. Love your style and your no fuss approach.
love love these styles!!!
I like 2 colors per outfit. Even as an elementary kid. Can be different hues of a color... but 2 colors. (Except when I wear a flowery or small patterened dress). I worked for Pantone and I was lucky enough to learn about color. Tom Ford, for the most part, follows 2 color "rule".
Your style is amazing! So inspiring âš
Love your style Emma. Itâs great to have you back đ
This was exactly what I needed to hear, thank you!!!
Your style is perfection!!! Always stalking your Insta in the Autumn especially xxx
Very helpful tips Emma!! You are always chic and stylish!!! I like very much your secondhand buys, especially your bags!! xxx
I wear my sunglasses all year long - rain or snow or whatever, this is essentially one thing I can't leave home without. Great tips! I love your minimalist style!
Really? Even in winter when itâs snowy or in the morning?
Loved this video! I am not a huge floral or pattern fan either unless it's minimal. Great tips!
Iâve seen this vĂdeo for 10 times and I am not tired of repeating it. The most elegant style Iâve never seen.
Another awesome video, Emma! After I started following you I finally found my style since everything I wore before was either dictated by the prep school I went to or my mom who bought me clothes since I was a kid. It is nice to see that you can be chic by sticking to the absolute classics: I'm a college student and rather not spend too much money or time on my outfits, and by having a few quality classical pieces as you suggested here, problems solved!! (Also very very very ... (10,000 "very"s later) excited for the blazer from your collab with the Curated!) Last but never the least, kudos to Simon for the editing!!
đđ
Those outfits were so amazing!!! X
I agree, you donât need to splurge too much to look chic. You make it look so easy too! With regard to the handbag storage, I also agree donât cram them together as I ruined an Oroton handbag by leaning another handbag up against it in the wardrobe and the buckle of the other bag became imprinted into the leather of the Oroton. I completely ruined it đ
Iâm addicted to your channel Emma đ love your style, personality and honesty â€ïž
I really enjoy your videos. You do a wonderful job on reviewing and explaining outfits.
Well thereâs no doubt in my mind that you always look chic. This is wonderful advice. I love the three colour maximum as I really do think that keeps an outfit classy. Also no prints make a big difference in keeping an outfit streamlined and chic. As always Emma great advice.đđđ
How I wish this video was available at my 20s lol. Thank you for sharing Emma. My favorite youtuber!
I especially liked your tips about colour combinations!
Oh yes! This is like a master class in classic dressing in less than ten minutes. Keep going!
Thank you so much for your wonderful tips! I have been struggling with anxiety and some days it gets hard to dress myself up and look my best, because i am too lazy for that. But you make it seem so simple to be stylish! I will follow your advice!
PS: there is something about you that reminds me of Alex Turner from Arctic Monkeys! That cool relaxed way of speaking! Instant fan here
My favourite videos! Get so much solid advice out of them!
Great video Emma,. Practical and good advice! Thank you! đ
great video, as always đâ€ïž
and of so much real value - i recently lost a very much loved (but not so often used) bag due to not stuffing it đ
I love your minimalist style Emmađ
I needed this video a few years ago...I have too many clothes I donât wear. I am going to apply this advice going forward.
Advice thatâs helpful, not overly complicated and achievable for everyone. I took a couple of screenshots for inspo đ All classic palettes that never go out of style and provide endless options if youâre mixing them up with some fun accessories. Great editing too Simon đđ». X
â€ïž
Thank you đ
hi Ms. Emma hill. I love your ideas very stylish and elegant. thank youâșïž sending love from Philippinesâ€ïž
Great video with some solid guidance!! Loved it â€ïž
Very classy looks! Timeless and chic! Thank you!đđ»â„ïž
I love your style so much. It's chic and actually wearable. There is simply no place for a mini skirts in an office. :D
Can you do a video on how you care for your cashmere, merino wool and wool knits? Unless you dry clean them. Thx!
Hi I did cover this in a caring for my clothes video earlier in the year if you want to check it out â€ïž
Love this video, great tips as always. Thanks Emma!
Emma-- any chance you can show us how you store and care for your designer bags? Alwaays have a problem with how to store them so think that would be so helpful!!
I loved this video! The tips are so useful!
Thank you!âšgreat tips!! especially the shoes I totally agree, you canât look good if shoes are dirty đ€. Youâre so elegant, even the editing of your videos are đ
Emma this video is absolute goals, the information and cutaways.....â€ïžthank you đđ»đŠđ©ł
I would add ironing! a simple white cotton shirt looks perfectly chic if impeccably ironed.
@@lucybraun8969 I don't own a steamer yet, may be a future investment!!!
Gracias.. Bonitos looks.. Tan elegante.. đȘđžđđ
I do agree with everything you say. Each tip is absolutely true and if you follow them all, you're on a good path to a classic, chic look.
YOU ALWAYS look great and ultra chic in your videos, but as with this one, it's obvious that the common factor that makes you look stunning in all the accompanying pics is that along with your very true tips, all of your clothes are expensive ones. There is no way anyone can say that cheap garments or accessories look as classy and chic as expensive ones. You WILL elevate your "chic" quotient by following the above rules, but almost every item you show in the pictures is quite pricey. NOTHING you are wearing in these photos is cheap and I'm not talkng about a scarf, socks or a plain white T shirt which can be cheap, but will get "lost" in the good jewellery, chains, jackets draped over it etc... Obviously, you can wear cheaper jeans and a generic white T shirt, but when you throw a Burberry trench or a Max Mara coat over them, and carry your Chloe bag tucked under your arm, the glamour of your look zooms up to 100. A plain, black Celine bucket bag will NEVER look like a cheap synthetic one, and cheap shoes or boots simply can not compare in the least to quality ones. Knock-offs do NOT look as chic as the originals, even if the style is exactly the same and there's a darned good reason. Expensive materials like cashmere, real silk, 100% cotton or linen and real leather simply can NOT compare in the least to synthetic woolens, polyester "silk", or cheap, vegan leather. They drape much more elegantly and loosely, they wear better and they have much better hardware that won't turn green, flake or rust after a few wears. Take sunglasses. How does a Celine or a Chanel pair compare to a cheap, plastic H&M one? It doesn't. The quality and colour of the lenses is rich, consistent and exquisite, the frame is heavier, more substantial and sits perfectly on your face.
What I have concluded from my experience is that it is a good idea to start out by buying fewer items, but making sure the quality is excellent. These things will ALWAYS be on the more pricey side and not cheap things that will look worse each time you wear them. One way you can do this is to REALLY be minimal - not only in your style, but in the true sense of the word: in the number of items you have. Someone who has 25 pairs of jeans cannot say they are minimal. Maybe your style is, but you are not minimal as a consumer. Save up and get ONE pair of sunnies that are gorgeous, instead of 5 pairs of 15 dollar M&S ones. Spend the most you can afford; it doesn't have to be 500 dollars; it can be $100... but 15 dollar sunnies will NEVER look chic, unless everything else you are wearing is designer... Price DOES make a difference.
To your list Emma, I would also add excellent hair (cut and colour) like a razor-sharp bob. Good hair is not cheap-ever. Expensive colour treatments and skillful, quality cuts show. And last but not least, minimal, classic make-up, (never bare-faced unless you are tanned and 18) and well-manicured nails- on hands and toes. No one will judge you for having clean and bare nails if that's what you like, but poor upkeep is never classy. It always amazes me how some influencers will wear show us their thousand pound Dior saddlebags with chipped, grown-out manicures.
Very helpful - I couldnât see the video for keeping your trainers white?
Great advice but I find hard to stick with as I like flowered dresses and bright colours especially here in WA.
Awesome styling guide, Emma! This is very curated and exactly the type of wardrobe I wanna build for myself. The only thing I like to add to my wardrobe are well selected music t-shirts. I usually stick to the classics (that I also love!) such as the Rolling Stones, Bowie, the Beatles, and so on. I wear them moderately and usually with a blazer for the chic factor. I know you're not a big fan of prints, but you can't go wrong with them imo. â„
I am a little partial to the band tee and a blazer, its just slogans Im not a fan of đ€Łđ
Thanks, Emma, great tips. I love jackets and blazers with jeans.
The Sunglasses thing is genius. I adopted this immediately.Thank you.
Great video, Iâm slowly getting into this style! đđ»đșđžđđ
