    I love this! It's just amazing to see peoples creativity, brilliance, and community when they are truly passionate about something. I've looked at these before but never needed one enough to spend that kind of money on them. In fact seeing how simple of a device these actually are makes me realize how overpriced they are. I get they are probably very precise but it's still very simple and once designed and setup there's nothing of major expense here. Anyway, absolutely brilliant thanks for sharing.

      @@FelixImmler nice, that is another brilliant idea. Did you tension the lines with a weight, I think you use a 100 gram weight. Even though that's their suggestion I heard the pre tensioned pieces they sell are set at 250 grams and give a slightly lower result.

    I finally got a chance to make it using the 3d printer and it works awesome. Some blades like my swiss army champ are easier to read than others and project a very nice dot. Other blades project more of a distorted arc but the angle is still predictable. Thanks Felix - you are truly the macgyver of bushcraft!

      @chrisschott7790 Před rokem

      distorted dots mean that the edge is not flat but convex -- as a result of poor angle control or using a belt sander. that is the beauty of this tool, you get the quantitative number and the quality of the edge

    Happy Friday Maestro Felix. Thank you for another interesting video. Off Topic: As a lifelong SAK collector & EDC user, I am a bit upset to learn from the Vic Spain channel that Victorinox is discontinuing 39 models as of Dec.2022. A number of them no longer appear on Victorinox globals website - a sure sign that they have been discontinued & others are still there for now but some have been out of stock by me locally & on various websites that I buy SAK's from for sometime. In addition Vic Spain has predicted that the entire 85mm Delmont range will be discontinued by the end of 2023. I am a fan of the unique 85mm models that were originally Wenger SAK's, I own & even EDC a number of Wengers, Swiss Buck Wengers & their Victorinox Delmont successors and will be sad to see them go as I was sad & disappointed when Victorinox ended the annual collection of 10 decorative scaled 58mm Classic SD's as these collectables account for 120 of my 150 58mm SAK's out of a total overall of 210+ SAK's of all sizes. Is there any chance that you will make a video on some of the already discontinued or planned discontinued SAK's ? ATB Steve in Tel Aviv.

      @@aaronthom2576 Hi Aaron, I used Cura 5.3 to slice the model. The X-Axis (long straight side) originally measured 12mm. I scaled the model to 1000%. This have me a final print @ 120mm. I might be tempted to tweak the design to make it a bit thinner and less bulky to reduce print time and filament use. It's a fantastic design though and works like a charm. I had some challenges with the laser, but you don't really need it to be perfect. The blade angle/angles are still easy to determine. Felix's channel is by far, one of my favourites. Good luck with your print.

My laser was not a perfect fit, so it's not perhaps as neat and tidy a solution as my OCD would like, but I'll get around to it some day. I just wish my 3d printer and software offered the same elegant simplicity as my SAK. Thank you again. Warm regards, Nic

    I have a question; will the light reading show one edge is a different angle than the other is? It does show the angle of the cutting edge. However, the stone and guide rod still have to be set to the proper angle to achieve grinding the proper edge on the blade.🤔🗡❓

      If you hold the knife per hand like in this cheap models you will not see, that on cutting edge angel is different to the other..

      @@FelixImmler careful: this might also be a new way to injure your eyeball while sharpening your knife. Something about how a dull knife-laser is actually more dangerous than a sharp one.
      Also: You just proved that humanity's newest cutting tool, the laser, can be used to perfect our oldest tools. The technological circle of sharpening is complete.
