Fantastico James! Geringer Fremdschämfaktor. Good job, Lodda. He was my favorite player when I was young.... He missed a couple of very important points though.... like his last penalty for Gladbach in the German FA Cup Final against Bayern, what a rocket.... Gladbach was the winning team at that time, Bayern had the cash. Now Bayern got both....Then there must have been a huge fallout with him and the Bayern hierarchy "We would not even want him as a greenkeeper" has been quoted. I reckon, its a very German team he put up there. Only the right back from Brasil.... Lahm going to give him an angry call.

This guy is the most underrated player in football, He would make my all time 11 no doubts, yet gets forgotten in the great players discussion, Lothar your boys broke my heart in 1990, but even back then I still liked you. I have always loved well rounded complete players.
People talk about complete midfielders today, and to me, a midfielder IS a complete player. If you are not well rounded....probably should not be playing in the midfield, there should not be midfielders who suck at any fundamental aspect of the game, certainly not at the highest level, even if they are short heading is important, they dont have to be great at it, but they have to be able to do it.
True. Midfield is a role whereby you have to battle and create; if we generalize. Whilst defense is to protect and attack is to finish. Midfielders contribute in both defensive and attacking phases of the game, thus generally have to be able to do most fundamental aspects of the game.
However, a midfielder doesn't have to have good quality in every attributes. For example, some are not good at tackling, some couldn't dribble. They could still be classified as destroyer, runner, or passer. In short, you have to do many things, but you don't have to be good in everything.
Lothar Matthaus, is one such player who's good at almost every attribute you can have as a player, truly complete. Yes, he's quite underrated. He's been the key player in many title-winning teams. He's definitely among the GOAT in central midfielders, yet he's not talked about enough. Most footballers of the year are attackers (AMs, Wingers, or Strikers) and he's one of the rare non-attackers. He would also be in my all-time best XI

German players are the most underrated players despite being a country w 2 world's cups more than Portugal , Spain , England players like Matthaus , Muller , Shweinsteiger , Lahm , Kahn are among the Greats of football .

Great video... Loved Matthaus as a player. Possibly the best box to box midfielder ever... Excellently balanced team as well... the only disappointment was him leaving Klinsmann out. I know they weren't exactly best friends but for me, Klinsmann was better than Voller.

To be honest he is right Gegen pressing is just 80's football with better starting positions, and better fitness, people talk about modern football but every 6 plays like Lothar used too, 80's teams used to have a lot of attacking full backs, and wing forwards were quite common too
