  • This is one way to do small chrome pieces, emblems and badges. I just learned of this idea so I thought I would share this. Please keep in mind the end result of mine isn't the best but it don't need to be. I build weathered models. This just gives a great idea of how you could do this. For my subscribers you also get to hear my future wife lol. She is funny

Instead of an index card, I used a small piece of a Tylenol box. The paint didn't soak into the cardboard as much as the Tylenol box was coated. Seemed to make a difference.
Thanks so much for the great tip. It worked great. From Niagara Falls, Canada

I use a similar method, but I put a piece of masking tape folded over the edge of the card. The fibers of the card don’t soak up as much of your chrome. Good video, I hope you get that Lou fixed up.

Just found your channel. Very cool tip. I dont know how many times ink just flowed uncontrollably, kind of like your Lou, over my work trying to do it from the pen. Entertaining. Thanks for sharing.

I find using a Tooth Pick really easy . Just dip it in the paint that is in the lid of your paint , Lightly rub the Tooth Pick on a piece of paper and roll the Tooth Pick over what you need painted .

That is EXACTLY the method I was shown over 60 years ago for detail painting my model planes and cars ! It worked then , and it'll still work NOW !!!

I found that stamping the raised edges of the emblem like your doing works well but I found that if you use balsa wood sanded flat (1/4 inch in size to be held with tweezers), than dabbed with silver paint works well. great video u deserve the sub!!

Put a piece of scotch tape on the edge of the card so it doesn’t absorb the paint.

If you use a laminated business card and cut the correct width of the emblem to prevent pooling or runs on the edge of the card, you should get better control of your paint or chrome. Gotta keep going fast cause the chrome will just pull off first layer if you keep dabbing it for too long. And I find the chrome separates from metallics if you leave it on the card too long. Leaving more of a silver finish. Hope this helps.

I'll have to give that a go. With the way some of the emblems are so light, you have to have a couple different methods in your toolbox. A less absorbent paper might work better?

I was gonna say scotch tape the edge of the index card. Paint won't soak in.

Seems like a cool idea. I think I'll try it on for size. I usually use BMF under the primer and paint and then carefully remove the paint from the scripts.

A thin piece of styrene might work better since the chrome liquid won't soak into it. Just a thought! Thanks because your video made me think.
