B12 has to be converted into B12 Complex in the small intestense to be " ACTIVE B12 COMPLEX for circulatory in the human body to make Myelin Sheath around the nerves & produce healthy red blood cells. Regular B12 is from protein , Pepsin amino acid produced in the stomach turns B12 to the B12 Complex ACTIVE which is what humans need weekly. Only two labs can properly test for B12 Complex ACTIVE....in hands , feet & brain.

Excellent description. 10/10. Diagnosed at 20yrs old. The confusion (dementia like) symptoms and unsteady gait are the most frustrating aspects of the disease, people often assume you've been drinking alcohol. Especially when you slur. I wish the UK would do the intramuscular injections monthly rather than every twelve weeks. But I can only assume the doses of cobalamin are administered at different volumes.

    • @GemR38
      @GemR38 Před 2 lety +2

I have PA and from the UK. The amount given is only 1mg every 12 weeks and it is no where near enough for me. It's crazy how debilitating PA is and I agree with you on how frustrating the brain fog is. I'm 36 and was diagnosed a year ago after years of wondering what was wrong. I'm sorry to hear you are so young to have it but at least being diagnosed early in life should mean it will be more manageable for you. Wish you all the best.

Thanks. I was hoping you would mention a cure. I have been gettiing IM B12 and B complex shots for 6 months. I can only go 2 weeks between shots.
The symptoms startes during lockdown and I couldn't see a doctor. They were not available in London for consultation since 2019.
I just put the symptoms down to inactivity.
    Your list...
    I had them all..
It was only when i visited my mom in Africa, and told her I can't feel the peddle of the car, that she immediately phoned her doctor.
    Extensive bloodtests.
I also have severly low Iron and Vitamin D.
    I am 54, female.
Until 2019, I was healthy, going to gym etc.
So it has been a life changing condition.
The clumsiness was the first sign, but my flatmate (at the time) was criticising me. Especially as I was banging the dishes and even dropping them.
I still bang the cupboards but realized I was using sound to tell me when something is closed.
Also, I bang objects when i put them down.
Sound helps me navigate my movements, including my footfall.
The flatmate complained about that aswell.
Yet they were all signs of the difficulties my extremities had in FEELING the environment.
Now I live in Africa. I can make all the noise I want.

My pernicious anemia diagnosis was delayed by 7 years. My first complaints were brain fog, muscle weakness and fatigue. My B12 serum was always normal because i was taking supplements. I started complaining that it felt like my muscles weren't getting oxygen. I developed autonomic dysfunction, gastroparesis, bladder dysfunction (LUTS), esophageal dysmotility and paresthesia among many other symptoms. My doctors told me my symptoms were psychosomatic and anxiety based. I had to fight for a peripheral blood smear which revealed macrocytosis. Eventually my intrinsic factor antibody test came back positive. My quality of life was terrible for SEVEN YEARS. I hope those of you studying this never let another patient suffer. Most of my doctors (including a neurologist department head at a university medical center) though i needed a psychiatrist. My body was slowly dying. I've had to take DAILY injections for a year now and if i back off at all, my symptoms return.
