  • Bone fracture types nursing review for the NCLEX exam that covers treatments, signs and symptoms, causes, and nursing interventions.
A bone fracture is a break or crack in a bone. There are several types of bone fractures. They include the following:
-Complete Fracture: the fracture completely separates the bone in two.
-Incomplete Fracture: the fracture does NOT break the bone all the way through.
-Greenstick: one side of the bone is bent while the other is broken…incomplete type of fracture (most common in pediatric patients)
-Comminuted: the bone is broken into many fragments (3 or more).
-Transverse: the fracture is straight across the bone shaft.
-Oblique: the fracture is slanted across the bone shaft.
-Spiral: the fracture twists around the bone shaft (from a twisting injury).
Signs and symptoms of a bone fracture include: brusing with pain and swelling, reduced movement, odd appearance of extremity, crepitus due to bone fragments rubbing together, edema, erythema, neurovascular impairment.
Complication of a bone fracture can include infection (osteomyelitis), compartment syndrome, fat embolism (most common with long bone fractures) etc.
Nursing interventions include to assess the 6 P's (pain, pallor, paresthesia, paralysis, poikilothermia, pulselessness), immobilization of the affected area, stopping the bleed, cast and traction care, monitoring for compartment syndrome and fat embolism etc.

It's these kinds of comments that keep me motivated. The fact that someone whose practiced for several years can go back to a video and spend time refreshing the knowledge is just amazing.
I'm currently a 5th year medical student ( our medicine is 7 yrs), just started my first rotation.

As an ER nurse of more than 25 years in a downtown teaching hospital with no pediatrics, you have helped me so much! I am now in the far canadian north working on indigenous reserves. I rely on you for so many lectures. Recently impetigo. It's going through the community like wildfire. Your short but concise lectures and follow up quizzes are fantastic. thanks so much!

Consistent. All videos are all of high quality. You are a gift to all nursing students all over the world. Best part is, you are giving it to us for free! And even made an extra effort to make the notes and practice tests! ALL FOR FREE!!! You and your husband have the heart of GOLD. Others would of charged us big before we could watch the full video. So i dont mind how many ads you put there coz i will watch and finish them all.. but you dont actually put ads in the middle of your videos which made me appreciate you more. Im teary-eyed. You are the BEST Sarah! You have the gift and you are sharing it to others.

I have seen your videos throughout my nursing school education over the years. I watched a video here and there but now that I prepare for the Exit Hesi exam for my university I see all of what your website and youtube channel has to offer. From the videos, to the quizzes for every topic, onto the lecture notes for each topic. I wish I would have looked at this earlier but I'm happy I found out all your platform has to offer now!!! All the money I have spent with these different companies and programs. I truely feel that your platform is a one stop shop for all and the best part is it's FREE!!!! For all the broke nursing student's out there. I just had to pause and say THANK YOU SOOO VERY MUCH!!!!! May God bless you and your loved ones.

i remember the orthopedic lecture when reviewing for the philippine nursing licensure examination a few years ago. they speak so fast and i was having a hard time keeping up by writing down notes. thus I had to break out the old modules i had in college just to compensate for it. luckily i took the board examination and passed by taking it just once. i am doing self-review now because i am considering taking the NCLEX in the near future. once again schools in session!
