- This is a very different video than what I usually post but I wanted to come clean about where I've been lately. I wanted to give you an honest perspective on some real life resistance I've been walking through. At the end of it all I want to encourage you, no matter where you are at in life, never give up the dream. The past 3 years have been the toughest of my life to continue making music and being creative. But I feel a new season around the corner in 2024 and wanted to make a video to timestamp that turn in my personal journey. Consider leaving a comment if the video hit home.

Forest, I just wanted to offer my a few words of encouragement. I am retired and have gotten back into music and production in the last three years. I have purchased some of your products and really enjoy your teaching and your style. I want to join with the rest of my fellow musicians and producers, who have posted and let you know I will be praying for you.
I do believe that our trials in life test us and make us stronger if we have faith God will see us through.
I am 75 years old and have been through many challenges. In addition, some of the greatest leaders in the world have been through some of the hardest times. Tough times never last, tough people do.

I know how it feels to lose my Pops. He left us four months after my Momma passed and then my five year old baby girl was diagnosed with Leukemia. Prayers for ya' brother. Everything gets put into perspective when we experience a big loss. God never puts more on our plates than we can handle...Proud of ya' brother. God Bless..!

Hey, Forest. I understand depression. Going through some difficult stuff myself, but man that must be hard for you. Keep your faith and remember it will always be the darkest before the dawn, my friend. Everything is a matter of perspective, especially when it is most difficult to view things differently. You are a tremendous help to all, but don't let that be the reason as to why we appreciate you. We are all human, and I could tell from the moment I decided to email you for the first time, that you are very genuine. That is rare. Do what is right for you, even if that means don't help us anymore. Stay true to you. Please.

@@forestwhiteheadit truly was, we men tend to keep too many emotions inside and we gotta share to mirror our concerns and frustrations or uncertainties. It’s okay not to know what to do sometimes, and when that happens Sharing is key, so we do try drown in our own thoughts or tears.

Thanks for sharing this. I really appreciate the honesty and vulnerability. I’ve been a musician/writer/creator for more than 30 years. I’ve been full time on CZcams since late 2019 and it hasn’t gone the way I thought it would but I’m still here. I firmly believe, as you say, that the only way you don’t succeed is if you quit. I do it every day and have done for as long as I can remember. I lost my mom a month or so ago and there have been other had times, but I find renewed faith and challenges in doing my work.
I’ve really enjoyed your channel since I found it a few years ago and I look forward to what you do next!

I am coming up on 60 years old, have been making a living as a musician, engineer, producer and commercial studio. This video couldn't have hit me at better time. My season of life differs from yours currently, but I am experiencing a similar "funk". I feel blessed to have made it this far, but things have changed since 2020 here as well. I can't and won't quit, but being a bit depressed makes being creative on demand is getting tough.
Hearing about the health issues of your children, makes any of my woes seem inconsequential.

Thank you for sharing your story, Forest. It hit deep for me because I’ve been recently facing truths and CPSTD diagnosed after going to therapy. It’s been almost 15 years I had struggled with understanding why I would have some unfinished projects, problems with punctuality, struggling to let others get close to me, risk to be known and learning that my needs and emotions are NOT an inconvenience for others. My therapist helped me link all that to my rough childhood and now I slowly taking steps to understand how my brain (physically) and mind (emotions/thoughts) work. I was leaning to get frustrated and outraged as how poverty when a child can affect someone’s life so deeply, but thanks to your story, I can now totally understand that this frustration will only develop if I try to control but I can’t control. Thanks for your constant support. You’re not just an extraordinary musician and producer, but also an amazing human being as your spouse is too.

Forest, I’ve been a bedroom producer since the early 90’s and spent the later part of my 30’s as a recording/ performing artist. I became a fan of your channel a couple years ago due to your talents and transparency with your musical gift. Most musicians are not interested in helping others reach their dreams. That being the case, it seems only natural to me that you would need to make this video. You had to to move forward. You are a true inspiration as a human being let alone being a musician. Brother I totally understand, I lost my wife November 16th 2022 to cancer and I haven't picked up a guitar or recorded a vocal since. I completely walked away from life. Keep your head up man. I'm just now started to get back into getting some of the 40+ songs I've written recorded. Life will always throw us curves. I have a very close friend that is a recording artist in Nashville and he's been crucial to helping me keep pushing forward. Make sure you have someone to lean on and you're in my prayers.

I can tell you as someone in recovery for alcoholism transparency is a big key to healing and I hope you have honest conversations with good people about the struggles. Thanks for sharing this. The main reason I watch you is because you show more of the facts of this business. I've been making a modest living in the music business since 1976. At first I wanted everything you talk about. For ten years I tried to learn more about the business side of being a musician. After Getting a real look at a large part of it, I decided I didn't want to be a part of that machine so I started doing other music things on my own. maybe that's where you're at. It aint a bad place and when you get through the mess you see your next steps even more clearly. I've had major disasters also. Many! I'm almost 65 now, still playing recording and even making instruction videos. Music is what I love and I have no intention of ever stopping. Just changing directions once in awhile. It keeps life more interesting. Thanks again Forest and keep on plowing through. The end is better than the beginning most of the time.

It takes an incredibly strong person to state publicly the challenges you've faced. I admire you greatly for doing this. I hope this experience has been cathartic for you. Sometimes we just need to get things out into the air to be able to handle them better. Seeing the words in the air can help us cope with the issue. To paraphrase what you said, and what I have told my 3 boys when they've gone through very, very difficult times including severe depression, "the only way out, is through." Keep going. You got this. Thank you for your work, your teaching, and just being a damn good human being. It is your honesty and sincerity that brought all these people here and what will keep us supporting you. Thanks for 'dropping the water line'. Most people don't and especially men because of our society. I had something similar that happened in 2006. A lot of good has come out of it and at 65 I'm feeling more creative than ever before. When I was in my early years with an all-female band it was about fame, fortune and getting people to love me. Through a lot of introspection and not medication I write lyrics about being the change, seeing the beauty in everything and not believing in the narrative of fear (false evidence appearing real) that's all around us. I perform in 432 hz which is known as the healing vibration to help add healing and more love to what I do. I'm excited to see how this transforms you.

In my eyes this means as much or even more than sharing your musical experience. Thank you Forest for your honesty. This video cannot have been easy to make, but SO important. The illusion that other people's lives are plain sailing, & that it it is only 'I' that's going through tough sh*t, needs to be seen for what it is, totally false. The question is, 'Who, of those 'influencers/movers & shakers' will ever admit it? Very, very few, because it's too risky & the illusion has to be maintained. So I thank you again for speaking your truth. I hope it's received with an admiration of just how difficult a video like this is make. It deserves true respect.
