  • Hello again,
I will show you, if a mobility scooter isn’t working, what potential problems can appear. In this case, I will be changing its battery to a new one.
I hope you find it useful and helpful.
See you on the next video,

Since he missed out a lot of relevant info...
The battery box is held in position on the scooter by its power connector on the underside of the box, plus Velcro style tape, and gravity.
To remove the screws on the bottom of the box... I can't tell the size, but he used a long 'cross head' screwdriver - also referred to as a 'Phillips head' screwdriver - and then a little magnet on the end of an extendable stalk.
Assuming most people don't have a magnet... The screws will fall out of their holes when you turn over the box to be able to lift off the top cover. Make sure you keep track of them when they do fall out.
If you put a small piece of sticky tape over each hole before you turn the box over, the screws will stick to that and not get lost.
The two batteries inside the box are standard 'deep cycle sealed lead acid' batteries. They're '18-12' batteries. (Also known as '12v 18Ah' or 12 volt, 18 amp hour batteries.) You can get various different brands and styles/capacities on Amazon and eBay, Walmart, Autozone, Nappa, etc.
He didn't share what size socket/wrenches he used to remove the wires from the batteries, but to be honest yours might be different anyway so that's forgivable.
The batteries are held in place by more Velcro style tape which is why they needed to be wiggled & pulled up.
He replaced the original batteries with two slightly heavier & longer lasting ones = 12v 22Ah.
He did not replace or even reuse the Velcro tape on the bottom of the new batteries, but you really should use it, for safety sake.
Many batteries come ready charged. However, they'll hold more charge and last longer if they're fully charged again before being used, ideally for 12 hours. That can also be done using an ordinary car battery charger before they're installed if you can get by with using the old ones for a while.
    You're welcome. 😁

Thank you so much for this , I thought I had to renew the whole thing and was so worried when I saw the price this scooter was my mums before she passed away she didnt use it much but I have and it's fantastic well I couldnt manage without it to be fair so thank you I now feel confident in changing the batteries from the housing

You also need to transfer (or renew) the strips of Velcro on the bottom of the battery. If you move the Box around without fixated Batteries or turn the battery box upside down as in the Video, without the Velcro, the batteries hang from the cables inside and it can break at the connection and cause a short circuit! You can also put the old battery in the fridge for a while, then the adhesive strip will release more easily.

Thank you for your comment. If there is originally the velcro, I get used to replace to the new batteries, but if it wasn’t there I’ll leave without.

@@georgesworkshop8600 That's why I comment on the velcro. I changed batteries multiple times. Always use a velcro because without it is not save according to factory specs. The Wires are not that long to compensate the movement of the battery. Eventually they will break. Good luck.

If you install larger, higher amp rated 18ah SLA batteries, the weight of the battery pack will increase significantly along with greater driving range. Keep your batteries fully charged, don't leave them discharged, it will shorten useful life and driving range.

Is it slower as it was originally? Then need a new battery. All of scooters have mechanical or electrical speed adjustment. The speed could be adjusted within the min and max range.

Need to trade up to an easier model to charge. No one ever answers the phone or call you back. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys, hoping you can help.
I have a Pride scooter and when I plug it in to charge the charger lights continue to stay on indefinitely. They don't switch off for example when there would be a full charge. However, when I unplug the charger from the battery and simply plug it back in, they charging lights are off.
I'm not sure if there's a problem with my charger or something else. I also believe this is causing problems with the batteries (as they are working poorly what seems like out of nowhere).
