    Hi Nathan, I just finished watching this vid on Potassium. One of the things you mentioned in the video was whether your potassium levels are tested with routine blood work? As a clinical laboratory professional for over 40 years, I can say yes! Whenever you have a Basic Metabolic Panel (BMP) or a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP), Potassium is one of the 3 electrolytes tested in both panels. It is also a measure of your Kidney function (the main organ in your body that helps regulate BP)! The caveat with potassium is that if you are critically high or critically low in potassium, you are at a very high risk of Heart Attack. So you want to be very careful with your potassium levels. That said, if you have good normal kidney function, your kidneys should eliminate the excess potassium if you get too much in your diet or by taking supplements. When you get critically low (usually due to poor kidney function or diet) in potassium, a doctor will usually prescribe something like Slo-K+ to correct that problem ASAP to prevent cardiac issues!
    Now I was drawn to your channel because I have been on BP meds (Amlodipine to be exact) at max prescribed dosage for that drug for maybe 10 years now. Only to get my BP to around 140s over the high 70s to low 80s with several unfortunate side effects like ED and ankle swelling and I am tired of it! I previously watched your video on fish oil and I just ordered the Krill oil from your link....fingers are crossed I get the same results! I will follow up with my results! Thanks for the hard work going into your research into this subject as until now I have been unsuccessful in finding ways to get off my meds! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding any laboratory tests that I may be able to help you with! Again thanks!

Once I became vegetarian 40 years ago my BP dropped and as I walk 3-4 hours every day my BP has stayed below normal and my sister is on pills. Beet root powder (in caplets) is a source of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a vasodilator (among other things) and that reduces blood pressure. It also improves performance in the gym. Magnesium, potassium, and fish oil are also good for blood pressure. Carnivore diet is also good for a LOT of what ailes you. Even if you don't want to go full carnivore, more red meat in your diet will give you a good load of potassium and is also the most anti-inflammatory food there is.

    • @radar5464
      @radar5464 Před měsícem +3

      That makes sense if u think of the RAAS system regulating electrolytes and blood volume. My understanding is that your body prioritizes blood volume over pressure so high BP (to compensate) can be a symptom of dehydration as ur body attempts to hold onto salt. So in that situation correcting salt/water/blood volume could lower Bp. I don't think any of these details every gets discussed. I ended up w Hyperaldosteronism from medications once causing xtreme dehydration.

    Per volume looking up on USDA, cocoa, hemp and avocados are in the top of the list in terms of actual potassium density (as opposed to serving size), which have more fiber than sugar if not an insignificant amount of sugar unsweetened. All more than potato. Acorn squash can be about as much as banana. The amount of water does play a factor, but bananas will likely promote hypertension due to insulin-sodium retention from the excess sugars.

      If you ever got a kidney stone and had it analyzed, you'd see firsthand what a small amount of oxalate is needed to generate a stone. Kidney stone sufferers like me, two of my brothers and my father cut high-oxalate foods out of our diet once our doctors advised us to stay away from them.

Smoking pot is very bad for your lungs, so you may get a temporary drop but cause your lungs not work effectively (over time) which would increase blood pressure so overall smoking marijuana is a temporary fix. Damn! Thats a load of stuff that I would never eat.
    Frozen orange juice for all your fructose!
    OK, this is what I'm doing..
    You know about that good apple cider vinegar? Well, it's not about the acid, but about the acetate that's in there and that your mitochondria ("the powerhouse of the cell..! *echo*) loves.
    Now combine the best of two worlds. What do you get?
    *POTASSIUM ACETATE*
    So, that is what I put in my homemade electrolyte. Potassium acetate (cheaply bought in a 5 kg= 11 lbs container), Magnesium salt, some Himalaya salt, iodine from Lugols, a bit nitrite (40 mg/day) and a dash (1mg) of Lithium.
    Potassium acetate contains almost 40 weight% potassium.

    Potassium controls your muscles and your heart is a muscle so you would want to monitor your potassium with blood work. Probably why you have to have Rx for any higher dosage
