    Honestly, a lot of these don't really fit Cosette's character. People hate on Amanda Seyfried for her technique and vibrato, but at least she understood that Cosette was a gentle and sweet lady. Half of these are extremely bold, loud opera voices. While they may be gorgeous voices, they don't really fit Cosette. A little too harsh, maybe. Rebecca Caine nails the over the top opera, though. Somehow. Idk, maybe she's a unicorn.

    • @meoen4470
      @meoen4470 Před 7 lety +14

      Right? Some of them keep saying that Amanda sounds like she was nervous. Well, the girl has lived a life without any friends nor knowing anything about her father, who keeps running and hiding, and she just met the love of her life and didn't know who he is and was confusing about her feelings; they expect a girl in such situation to be calm?? That was a movie, not a musical so she had to act with her voice too (unlike the musical, where singing technique comes first), and for the movie (where acting and motions and images are important) I think Amanda did a great job.
      To me, I think everyone's singing in the to movie suck compare to the musical (obviously?) since in the movie, they have little support from the music, they have to focus on acting first and meanwhile singing, they have to cut off some good lines from the musical, and sometimes they sing like talking, etc... but instead the images and picutures created are so good. I watched the movie before the musical, but after the musical I couldn't listen to the movie's soundtracks anymore, but when I listen to them while watching the movie, they sound good again.

      Nataliah Drake lol sorry but Amanda doesn’t come close to these amazing singers. Her interpretation was nice, and I get what you mean about Cosette being gentle and sweet but I’ve always understood the character differently. She’s a free spirit and longs to escape from the restrictive world she’s in. Her father won’t let her so much as look in the direction of a man or even go outside the garden walls without him accompanying her. She’s frustrated and this song is her wishing to escape.

    • @makeittrue
      @makeittrue Před 5 lety +2

      @@beththingineverhad I actually was able to meet her in Tulsa, OK when she was pursuing an opera career. This period would have been the early 1990s. She was in Fidelio. Rebecca was extremely nice to this fan. She said there was a reason that a full recording of "A Heart Full of Love" did not exist on the LP but I cannot reveal it publicly. The theater is a harsh career to pursue. If you listen to the London and Paris production, Rebecca Caine & Marie Zamora have very similar lyrical voices. I believe that was the type of voice Alain Boublil had wanted for Cosette. Apparantly, the powers above him, decided they wanted a different way for Judy Kuhn to sing it. After the Broadway production, the Cosette style was set in stone and it is what you heard in Europe and every production from then on. (Betsy, you can also fill volumes with what I DON'T KNOW!!!) That wisdom is my best guess.

    Why are they always making Cosette blonde when she's brunette in the book? I can understand if the actress genuinely cannot pull off a brunette wig, but Mary Michael Patterson and Samantha Hill are both natural brunettes and yet they stuck them in blonde wigs. And Louise Fribo, Katie Hall, and Amanda Seyfried have all pulled off brown hair in the past. I don't get it.

    • @rondameravella2885
      @rondameravella2885 Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, thank you! Everyone seems to have forgotten her hair being described as "[...] châtains nuancés de veines dorées [...]" Apparently we can't have two brunette leads despite the fact that Cosette has blonde streaks anyway (which would help set her and Éponine/Fantine apart for first-time viewers).
      Don't get me started on Fantine. For heaven's cake, her nickname is "la Blonde".

    • @mollydubner1234
      @mollydubner1234 Před 3 lety

      Hi! My voice teacher was a Cosette on Broadway then became Fantine years later. She was telling me how that she used to always be a Brunette. Cameron Macintosh I believe that's how you spell his name said that under no circumstance will Cosette ever be a blonde. The brunette hair made her face look more toned and innocent. Apparently that's changed though.

    1)To be fair, Amanda Seyfried was in the movie not singing on a stage. The only thing I did like about the film is how it brought Cosette to the forefront as she had been in the original staging in 1985-2000. 2)After this time period, I saw how her songs were edited more & more. I saw it the last time in 2006. 3)I reveal the following performers first whom I saw on stage: 1st replacement for Judy Kuhn. (March, 1988) Tracy Shayne: I have never heard such a tiny amplified voice in my entire life. Marius/Eponine normal musical theater sized voices. I will say she had no problem hitting the high notes at all. BIG disappointment in an otherwise wonderful production. 2nd: Stephanie Waters: Only interesting thing about her is when she forgot one of her lyrics. She phoned in her performance each time. You could tell she was extremely tired of doing the role. 3rd: Theresa Borg: Felt sorry for her. Understudy should have gone on. Her voice was in shreds. She is shown elsewhere on YT where you hear how lovely she actually sings. 4th: Regan Thiel: 1st time in my life I saw Cosette in a blond wig. Had an enormous voice. Her vibrato was as out of control here as when I saw her in 2000. Last time I would see all of Cosette’s lyrics with none of the editing. First act she goes flat on the “all”, second act same thing. When I saw her, 2nd act, she went so sharp on “all” I thought the chandelier would start to crack. Favorites from what you listed:Claudia Cota, Claire Marie Holl, Myriam Brousseau,Judy Kuhn,Talia del Val,Martina Dorak,Morenike Fadayomi,Annalene Beechey,Dorcas Leung, Silvia Luchetti,Sierra Boggess
