    1985 was the year I first flew to the USA...and I remember walking through the streets of New York and feeling like Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver...I was young and vigorous then and I felt life was intoxicating and 1985 was the year Bruce Springsteen was at Slane 🇺🇸🎸🇺🇸

    The good old days when Lugs Branagin was still alive, now our garda are run by British rule, and extra criminals coming here with the EU open border policies, and the department of Justice spending more money on housing non Irish instead of building prisons to discourage criminals from coming here in the first place, Ireland for the Irish 🇮🇪

    The old RTE logo in the title card at the beginning. It was replaced officially in 1980 but you'd still see it used well into the 80's on RTE books and records.

      A certain level of corruption is necessary for a democracy to flourish
      Or is it an acceptable level
      That was before the Criminal Justice Act.
      After that the criminal became untouchable with arrest by appointment and two fingers up to the cops coming out of the court room

    Hey Mark. My mam was on Garda patrol a few times between 1979 and 84 and we are trying to see if we can find clips of when she was on it. We think that she might be in the start of this in the bottom left of the screen. Would you have any other previous episodes of Garda patrol or could you put us in contact with anyone that might be able to help?

    • @deldirk7123
      @deldirk7123 Před 3 lety +3

      @@BBC600 As briefly described as 'banging bodhran' by "stigward duke", the older theme music for 'Garda Patrol' was played by musician banging his knuckles on a shallow round handmade drum-like instrument about 35cm diameter, 8cm deep with a skin over a bowl shaped piece of wood. Percussion effect tune played in a low and a high key, first the low key, 3 rapid strokes with a pause, repeated 4 times, then a higher tempo higher key 16 rapid strokes, back again to the lower tone low tempo and the high tone high tempo, and repeated about 4 times. No other instrument. Would fit in well with other traditional Irish music, instrument name pronounced 'Bow-rawn'. I could try to upload or email the tune I remember using an improvisation of the instrument as I don't own a bodhran
