    Excellent tutorial.
    Not many videos on the larger installations.
    The aluminum bracket was an excellent idea because of the overhang.
    So many good details without a lot of blather!
    The explanation of your idea of the failure of the other motor was awesome.
    Not criticizing but it might be helpful for others....what sealant did you use?
    Did you end up painting the aluminum bracket?
    And what did you use for a backing under the deck?
    Note to others, the plug he used is rated for 60 amps, the 112lb 36volt motor 52 amps max..is adequate for his application
    An 80lb 24volt system runs at 58 amps max...I bumped up to the 70 amp plug

I've installed a minnkota ulterra 24v 60in/1.5m shaft ( should have made it 6ft 36v) but what I got works ok ( 6-8hrs run-time in 2mts swell 6-8 knots wind) the shorter shaft allows some cavitation.... but what you have.? Excellent video. Best minn kota install yet. I've watched some of your other videos concerning LiFePo batteries and very informative. I just ordered two 24v100ah batteries for my trolling motor and on12v100ah for a house battery. Would you recommend running the two 24v batteries in parallel for the trolling motor(24v minn kota 80lb,72in) or just run one at a time and keep the other as backup. I think I heard running in parallel isn't advised. Seems like they should be fine doing so, but you have a lot of experience.

    • @SaltyStrikes
      @SaltyStrikes  Před 9 měsíci +1

      One 24v 100 battery should be plenty for that trolling motor. If you do run them in parallel check manufacturer specifications. I run two Li Time 24v 200 batteries in parallel in our RV too our Victron Inverter. Remember if your use a lithium for your house battery and want to charge it from the motor you’ll need a DC to DC lithium charger.

    I know this video is over 2 years old BUT just wondering do you still have your old Trolling Motor, I know it's slim to none BUT, if you do get back to me, Thanks, YES I'm real and NOT a scammer.

    I have an R200, is the 72" length going to suffice in the gulf? Thanks for the video.

      …. 72” plenty, just don’t settle for shorter. If it gets wavy that prop will be jumping out of the water with a 60” shaft.

      @@SaltyStrikes great vid thank you... I don't have the boat you guys do, but the top of my gunnel is 44 inches above the waterline at the bow. I really want to stick with the 72 shaft because I don't have good room on deck for longer. Technically I'm ok with the rule of thumb 44 + 27 = 71 shaft length.... Also I don't bottom fish in bad weather... You think I'm ok with 72?

      @@davidk7849 … you want that motor at least 12 inches under water at a minimum , always better to have a little extra than not enough.

    Can you wire the directional puck to same battery as trolling motor?

    • @SaltyStrikes
      @SaltyStrikes  Před 8 měsíci

      No, puck runs on 12v and trolling motor on 36v.

      Got it thanks. I guess can just hook that to my other batteries … I’m thinking I will try the LiTime 36 volt 55 ah. Should be enough for trolling most of day and then charge at dock

    Minn Kota "believes" that having the separate puck reduces the interference the GPS could get if it was built in... so mount it far away from other electrical stuff... makes sense to me.
