Sadly Ian Holm (who plays older Bilbo) was suffering from Parkinson's disease and needed his lines held up just off camera so he could remember them. Martin Freeman actually doubled for Ian Holm in all the shots where you don't see his face and even mimicked his voice so Elijah Wood could have an easier time acting off of him.

Marlon Brando never learned lines. He had the other actor hold his lines.
I’m glad that was available for Ian. I’m not minimizing his illness. Just that Brando was a natural at acting.

The rift between the dwarves and elves begun far earlier than what The Hobbit portrays.
In The Silmarillion, when dwarves first woke up from being stones, elves mistaken them for animals and hunted them. That is a traceable point of their tension.
The second possible point of tension and one that I believe is more likely the case for the tension, involves a Silmaril set in a necklace call the Nauglamír. An elven king name King Thingol of Doriath received a Silmaril, one of three created by Galadriel’s half-uncle Fëanor. King Thingol commissioned the dwarves to put it in a necklace and as payment, the dwarves wanted the Silmaril necklace. The dwarves slain Thingol when the elvish king refused. It is reasonable that Thranduil was alive during this time along with his father, Orophir. Orophir died in the Last Alliance of Elves and Men, leaving Thranduil to rule the Woodland Realm alone.
Peter Jackson might have been inspired by this tidbit of the Silmarillion to create a subplot for Thranduil and King Thrain of Erebor.
Hope this helps. Have a lovely watch!

Watching the Hobbit, then leading it into the Lord of the Rings right after, is actually a great idea. It fits well as the tone shifts with each movie as things become more and more serious.

He has all that food because he's a rich bachelor hobbit and his pantries are huge. I think Gandalf was trying to clean out the food because Bilbo wasn't going to be around for quite a while. Read the book - it's a children's book but it's absolutely delightful, funny and enchanting.

After Lord of the Rings wrapped they tore down the Hobbiton set. New Zealand tourism got such a boost from the movies that when they rebuilt it for The Hobbit they used permanent materials and it's stayed up as an attraction you can visit.

Don’t let the naysayers get you down, no these movies don’t follow the book page for page, they are a little bloated, this is true. But they’re VERY fun and it’s 10-11 more hours of middle earth! If you just watch them for what they are: bilbos adventure. They’re fantastic!❤

The Lord of the rings movies are not word by word from the books either, but i dont see people complain about that. And we have to remember that Jackson was taking over halfway in when Del Toro left the production. So he did what he could with the material he was given, and we should be glad that he did manage to get something decent out if it.

8:15 I never blamed the Elves for turning their back on the battle here so to speak, because it was already over by the time their armies arrived. All they could is attempt to send their troops into the mountain, which would have resulted in Smaug killing them all, probably fairly easily. But they COULD have offered help to the homeless dwarfes afterwords lol

I do too, by far. Elijah Wood can't really act at the level the LOTR films required, and the filmmakers made a mistake in depicting Frodo as a helpless, doe-eyed incompetent who keeps squealing, crying, tripping over nothing and having to be rescued all the time. Martin Freeman *can* act, was perfect for the role as Bilbo, and depicted him as a proactive, intelligent adult who doesn't need Gandalf's permission to do things. He's the best thing about these films (Lee Pace is a delight too.)
