@@8thousevirgin...the more I think about it, I believe both words are similar in definition, and are a fitting tribute to an icon such as him (depending on one's interpretation). He definitely pioneered a new method or way in creating art of various abstracts for many other artists to follow. In other words, he laid the foundation/groundwork for inspiring other artists to develop further this new concept of 'surrealism'. Because of this, he can also be considered a 'trailblazer' (innovator...and pioneer) for exploring new areas that weren't even considered a remote possibility in the art-world at that time. I'm not an art expert, nor do I have an 'eye for art', as I said previously. To me personally, he went in such a different and 'dark' direction with his works that, I believe, completely caught the art world 'off-guard'. I've always been amazed that when his works were on tour in my neck of the woods, the crowds were huge, and ticket demand was 'off the charts'. I have to 'blaze' a path to the 'Dali' museum one day to the Tampa/St Pete area in Florida (a 'bucket list' item) to see some of his works, which I missed out on twice already. Hopefully, the third time is the 'charm'. Cheers!

The story about Salvador Dali almost dying while performing in the old-school diving suit is not true. The photography that is shown in the video was captured AFTER the performance. Dali stated in his 1942 biography that Gala rescued him from suffocating by smashing the front glass window of the diving suit - which is still intact on the photography. The story is one of Dalis famous "false memories".
Fun facts: The diving suit is most likely a "Dräger Schlauch-Tauchgerät" from the 1920s. When they ordered the diving suit from a local renting company, the employee asked them how deep Dali was going to dive (in order to select a fitting suit). The short (but fitting) answer was: "All the way into the unconscious and back" (as told by Dali ;))

I was luckey enough to rent this great converted building with back garden views down onto the beatiful lite up lively coastal Catalonia gem. When you check out the list of artists to this place its quite impressive. I did not realise it a the time i was there renting the `Fishermans Villa`in August 2008 that from a certain angle of the villa from one of its many balcolnys one could see into the property of the brilliant British Artist Richard Hamilton. If i new that then, i would have made an effert to meet the legend. Andy Warhall called him the God Father of POP ART. Would there ever have been the explosion of Roxy Music.....Richard Hamilton had some great students during his time as Art director in NewCastle University he help influence the great Bryan Ferry in a pop art direction beyond the visual, but also into sound. Google the connection with Richard Hamilton and Bryan Ferry ..."This Is Tomorrow", Its kind of a thank you note from Ferry to Hamilton. But that is where this artistic legend of modern pop art lived out his years to the ripe old age of eighty nine dieing on the 13 September 2011. Do check out this great artist. Born in Pimlico, Dublin, sorry, meant Pimilco, London.! You will know his work and say....ah so that was Him. Don`t forget to visit Salvadore Dali`s home and stand beside his proud statue and pull the Dali pose. Cheers. I look forward to visiting Cadaques sometime in the not so distant future.

The time for old preaching is over
we aim straight at the heart.
If the mind tries to sneak in and take over
we will string it up without delay.
    We turn poison into medicine
    and our sorrows into blessings.
    All that was familiar,
    our loved ones and ourselves,
    we had to leave behind.
Blessed is the poem that comes through me
but not of me because the sound of my own music
will drown the song of Love.

Yes! The art world is just about who you know! Start hanging out with the wealthy art collectors and use the connections you make to sell your art.

Kevin's Journal success is what you make it to be buddy, but if fame is what fulfills your feel of succeeding, then yes, art is very much alive today but it is so much more filled with hippie “deep” quirky people. You can still make it.
