- I thought I'd have to put more work into contacting the companies that I met at Silicon Milkroundabout, but lots of them emailed me first.

Meets friend who works at Monzo “This is not a recruitment scheme”.... 1 year later
That train transition at 1:39
?
ya its awesome cut
that train cut is flawless
"...cv's don't go into bin" yeeeahhh they don't if you go to Cambridge...
You're so fortunate to be able to pick and choose where you want to work at. I'm a second year compsci trying to get an internship and I'd be willing to take anyone just for some experience under my belt!
recently graduated uni, unemployed, loosing money, buys 150 pound jacket? Jake is drug dealer. You heard it here first
"Hand in CVs work"
Yeah if you have a 2:1 from Cambridge
You've been an inspiration for my own videos based on uni life :)
Hi, have u ever been to India ? Do come after the situation gets better. U can experience the atmosphere of IISc, JNU, IITs etc ;) 👍🏻
You've been coming up with amazing videos, congrats Jake! I hope you keep up with the regular video uploads!
Hey Jake! I really love your videos and you truly are an inspiration to many other people. Keep up the good work mate!
In the nicest possible way- I hope that you stay unemployed to keep making these amazing videos!
Loving the unemployed vlogs
Another video from Jake! This is like Christmas has come early!
Omg I love these videos! Thanks for sharing!
Get a thin microfleece jumper to layer under the coat, you'll be warm enough. Great editing and transitions in this video Jake :)
Been following you for a while now and I've learned a lot from your videos so far! These unemployed vlogs are really interesting :) Also I have the same chair as you, ikea all the way
Hey Jake. I would like to thank you for providing us with an insight into your lifestyle. Very interesting. Thanks.
loving the unemployed vlogs bro ! keep em coming :D
Feels good to see you before friday Jake
So cool, ur going to Norway, I live there and study computer science in Oslo! Hope you enjoy!
All the best Jake !
good luck jake 👍👍
Love your vlogs honestly. This makes me a bit more happy that I'm not in between jobs right now too. :)
I have been trying to apply for graduate schemes since Sep. Nothing went well so far and for one second, I feel like I might give up. It might be a bit selfish, but seeing you looking for jobs at the same time does encourage me a lot!! Hope that both of us can get an ideal job very soon in 2018!
Did you graduate in CS too?
haha, not really. I studied a quite different degree.
LY SUN haha, I'm in the same boat as you! Looking since September as well. It does get really demoralising at times lol
haha totally. It is so frustrating! Wish you all the best of luck then!
My biggest advice to anyone watching these vlogs is do not resign until you have secured the role you want. If you don't absolutely hate where you work, it's better to be in work and not be stagnant.
I like following You on this path. You consider every aspect of the offer, of what do You expect and what do You have to offer! Should I ever be looking for a job again, this is going to be my well of wisdom :D Godd luck Jake!
wow this rabbit hole I'm going into has a great trail! happy to hear the lunch with a friend turned into kind of a whole life...!
As a entry level junior software engineer looking for jobs in the London area, loving the vlogs!
Enjoy your new coat. It will be interesting to hear more about it based on your experience with it. I could probably benefit from getting a smaller and warmer winter coat. I wouldn’t want to spend a lot, but the right performance characteristics coupled with durability may justify a higher price.
Continued good wishes on the job search. I enjoy following your progress.
Perspectologist Patagonia hi loft down jacket, best warmth to size ratio, has an internal stuff pocket £200 absolute bargain
you are such a savage. This series is pretty fucking cool
All the best bruh
I agree with your statement what u said about that bear coat even i too don't like and honestly i too have bought the similar coat which you've ordered..Couple of days before
Man like jake!!
Surprised to see inside Tramshed; I worked on looking at turning the building into a club, years ago!!
1:40 I believe we are witnessing the young years of the next David Fincher.
Uniqlo have those coats for a fraction of the price and they great quality as well!
Hello! I'm a UX Designer in London. It's really interesting watching your story as I've been in your shoes. Be selective about which recruiters you deal with. Most of them are crap and know nothing about the roles they are headhunting for. Ask some decent Devs you know for recommendations.
P.s. Revolut, Trussle and Skyscanner would be interesting to work for. Gusto would be too similar to Graze and they got too many direct competitors. What about working agency-side? Or going rogue and contracting?
Look at these Oxbridge graduates, can actually afford to pick and choose jobs with any company they like. Oxbridge does mean something (more than something)
I graduated CS last year, and I just found a job recently and I could actually relate to this, the stress of preparing for interviews and travelling to their offices is just draining. I live outside London and so I had to travel to London many times just to get rejected the following day.
I might try to replicate the transition on 1:39 once the lockdown is over. 😅
I was feeling bad as well about “I’m not interested” stack overflow reply 😂
I agree on the with the point on PHP - wages also tend to be lower. Java, C# or Python corner virtually 100% of the job market. I'm also going to step right out of line here and suggest working for a large company. I worked for small companies before and while the experience was extremely valuable, the training budget, leadership and travel opportunities at large companies are far better. There are also lots of groups to join. It's also worth mentioning culture can vary from team to team across big firms. Again, I'm sure you'll make the right choice Jake - best of luck bud.
Thank you. I think you're right about working for a large company-I value a lot of the things they provide.
You’ll be fine
Regarding your Norway clothing (from a Norwegian). You are slender, and so am I. I wear a Canada Goose expedition, which keeps me warm enough. Some guys I know in Oslo wore a jacket that thin throughout the entire winter with out being cold, but they are constantly very warm and bigger than me. That jacket is risky. I recommend you to get a scarf, winter shoes, winter hat and gloves. Best Regards, dying Norwegian with a really bad cold who is never going outside again without wool stockings
shoulda looked at the north face thermoball jacket, much better and cheaper than jack wolfskin
Have you ever thought about moving to San Fransisco and working there?
"Exceptionally bright" developers wanted to work at a utility warehouse. Got it. Gonna apply for it asap. xD
You can work remotly. For that bussiness in paris seek workers in other countries, did you hear about digid nomads?
Also on the job hunt jake but my qualification is information technology software development soooo the struggle is worse
it's not that bad though from London to Paris with the eurostar train from St. Pancras in London to Gare du Nord in Paris, only takes 2.5 hours, it's not that bad if u think about it. I wouldn't mind living in London working in Paris everyday, nice commute beautiful scenery get to see the beautiful sights of Paris, but that's just me.
honestly, i'm secretly enjoying you having no job. that means i get to see you make more vids. LOVE IT =p ur a beautiful human being =]
Would you consider jobs in Dublin or even other cities in England or Scotland etc?
The first seven seconds of this is me since the student loan stopped.
"This Mousse I've got is horrible, mhhhhhhh" lol
Hi - What was is like working at Monzo? My husband is starting there next month :)
I think you will find Jack Wolfson are very warm I've had one for years
I always laughed from companies that write about coffee, tea and cakes in benefits.
I already worked at such company, I always saw tea and coffee in a kitchen, but cakes - not always )
1 pack of tea costs 1.5$, in 1 month I will drink 3 packs - maximum. 4.5$ WOOOOOW ! What a cool benefit lol
I'm early!!!
That train looked like deadpool.
Today i recruited my ctrl + alrt keys
Hey man what's the song for this vlog?
Maybe if you don't want a php related job you should not check the ones that say backend
so is it easy for a Cambridge grad to get a job?
Gotta love recruiters - we're really picky and fantastically successful, you'd be incredibly fortunate to stare at our screen and fix stuff. We do bagels, yoga and nice. Expect incredibly long hours while you get us out a hole we've dug. Someone brings ice cream round Fridays.
Borderlands haha! Spot on.
If you want u can try find job in Germany, I think there are a lot more jobs, I live in Belarus, here is a lot of it jobs, but here is a small salary, in London salary will be in 3x or even in 4x larger
Hey Jake what's your opinion on AdWords and SEO. I'm learning the stuff on my own and was wondering about the scope of these jobs for a remote position in the UK
try magento developer mite be something up your street
wow, you got 25 vacation days a year? that's a lot. and yeah, you probably don't wanna do another php job, try something like python, javascript, etc.
Maybe I should, maybe I should move to Paris :DDD
Am I the only one who thinks he’s gorgeous?! God!
Qazwsxedc Plmoknijb oh okay thanks😂😂😂
at 2:04 i swear one of the things on the menu is 135pounds...
oh right hahahah. didn't see that
When you said norway , i thought no way at first cause of your accent..
Hi Jake,
Gay myself I often wonder if it is a good thing when filling out a companies equal opportunities form, to select my sexual orientation or just select 'straight?'
I am worried that an employer will not favor my application because of my sexual orientation but then I also want to feel like i am being truthful on the form.
What are your thoughts on this matter?
Ellie
Ellie Smales tell the truth! You do not want to work in a place where you are not accepted for what you are. Rather be unemployed then
I don't know about private companies but for government jobs in the UK the information such as race, gender, orientation etc. is removed from applications before anyone who can make hiring decisions sees it and is purely used for anonymous tracking of company statistics for determining systematic discrimination etc. Anyway, if a company would refuse to hire you based on your sexual orientation it's probably not a company you'd want to work for.
Put 'Prefer not to say'. How is it any of their goddamn business??
I don't understand why do u writing about yr sexual orientation in CV, do u think that it's really helpful info about new job candidate? I don't think so.
Igor Komar not in my CV? Some businesses make you fill in a form and you have to select your sexual orientation
Brexit. Brexit is what's making companies in Paris expect people who live in London to go and work for them... And yes, as an EU citizen moving to another EU country (especially with a job offer!) is quite easy.
Why don't you try LinkedIn?
Maybe you're expecting too much information in the early stages. This is info you would get at first interviews. Perhaps start applying for some of the jobs which look okay, then weeding them down during the first round of interviews. The longer you stay unemployed, the worse your chances of a good position will be, and the less valuable your degree will become.
Experience counts for a lot.
If you speak french, why not try some of the Paris jobs. The international networking would be great, and it would also look good on your CV.
Jake complaining about staying ONE full day in his flat. Now fast forward to 2020...
He must be going crazy 😂😂 have got no videos for a long time
Placement companies for IT ? Anyone ?
jacket looks average tbh youve paid for the brand. And that abrupt ending left me shook.
LOL. You ended up working at monzo
Jake ...move to Paris!! FFS
PHP is a dying technology.
recruiters are awful they dont even tell you what company they try to recruit if there from a agency that finds people for companies
Go to Google directly
Moo is a terrible company to work for. You will last 2 weeks
Legend has it, if you're here early Jake will pin your comment or respond...
That's just a myth
you are distracting me from studying DSA
try magento developer
try magento developer mite be something up your street
